I’ve had a handful of fittings and every time I have an awful nervy swing. I can never relax and just swing

Every single time without fail. Drives me nuts as I feel sorry for the fitter having to weed through the mess that I give them to interpret.

yes and I hate it.

I think it was on this forum that I read a nice piece of advice.. "You aren't going to be the worst they have seen, nor will you be the best, so just swing your swing"

There is a certain comfort in that, but also you can't help it, lol. I can try to talk logic, but more often than not the brain just won't listen.

When I first get there? Absolutely. It's hard not to when you know someone is focused on your swing. Eventually I can tell myself to relax and just swing my swing. I do think playing in sims in places where people are around all the time has helped because I can tune them out better now.

What are you nervous about? I promise the fitter has seen way worse swings

Yes and it's dumb. It's a lot of expectation I put on myself to get it right to get a fitting that matches what I can do. The reality is being nervous and tense is exactly what I do on course so it works out lol

No. I love it.

But I'll say this; right now with my driver/wood swing, I go into those with pretty low expectations and almost feel apologetic to the fitter for having to put up with me haha

I've had fittings that ruined my swing for weeks lol.

The only time I wasn't all weird was with Danny Le at Shaft UP.

Absolutely, I think an outdoor fitting it would be less so because even though I’ve hit 10k balls on a simulator I’m just never quite as comfortable indoors. It also doesn’t help that I’m my biggest critic and hold myself to unrealistic expectations. Honestly I have a solid swing but when I watch it back on camera I can’t help but nitpick everything that isn’t perfect.

1 of a 1000 reasons I’ll never be good at this game. 😂

I don’t get nervous at fittings. I have been through multiple fittings and I understand the process and how my swing of the day affects it. I may get frustrated by my swing or the results I’m seeing but it doesn’t make me nervous.

Nope. Anyone who is a high handicap and/or self conscious about their swing I could understand it if someone felt that way though. Otherwise no, I can all but guarantee they have seen some wild swings.

I think I lot depends on the person getting fit, sure we are somewhat nervous, things running through our minds, wanting to "perform". . Have you prepared for your fitting, stretches, hitting balls. Do you have wanted results and questions for the fitter. And then I think it a lot depends on the fitter. If you do not fill comfortable with the fitters motives or mannerisms, or you feel you're bring rushed and what appears to be sells talk ( upshafting) by the fitter, maybe that fitter is not the one you need. Just my opinion I look at fitters this way, If the fitter doesn't ask you any real questions about your game and what's missing, what you want out of the fitting, something is a miss right from the start., I think their first objective is to make you feel somewhat comfortable, just talking for a few minutes to ease the client nerves and not hit a few balls, change heads or shafts and the fitter is always seemed concerned with time.. Maybe its time to move on.

No, not really.

Nervous? I didn't feel nervous at the ECPC. But I didn't hit it very well, so the nerves were possibly there tucked away. It takes a lot to get me nervous-nervous.

Always important to remember:

Finally get back to this post... Some great comments already and a few of my thoughts:

> Two things to remember when you go to a fitting - You will NOT be the best player the fitter has seen and you will not be the worst player the fitter has seen. I'm absolutely sure of it. So just be you. The fitter is not going to be impressed if you hit your 7-iron 175 or think less of you if you hit it 105 yards. He or she wants to help you play YOUR best golf. Whatever that is and wherever you are on your golf journey. I promise experienced fitters have SEEN SOME THINGS and the chances of you making the best/worst list is extremely, extremely small.
> Let's go worst case scenario for a minute - You sh*nk for first 6 shots. Who cares?!???! You think your fitter is going to use any of those? Of course not. He or she will wait until you hit on the face to make any real judgements. They may try a lighter/heavier/stiffer/softer shaft if they see something in your delivery or give you a different head just so you have something different to look at, but as for the sh*nks, who cares?!!???
> As with playing golf, manage your expectations! (Lou Stagner from the top rope!) Guess what - You are likely NOT going have your BEST or your WORST swing the day you get fit. Why? Because by definition those are rare occurrences. You will probably hit a bunch of good shots, like normal, and hit several poor ones, like normal. Why? Because you are an accountant or a truck driver or a barista or an engineer and NOT a professional golfer. Misses are EXPECTED from ALL golfers by ALL fitters!
> If you feel nervous, SAY SOMETHING! Don't hide it. In fact, it will probably help you to vocalize and own the situation.
> Now as for coming off a layoff, if you haven't swung a club in 3 months that probably isn't the right time to get fit. But if you are an experienced golfer who took a break for whatever reason, but have played a few times and hit balls, its probably fine.
> Please, please, please SWING YOUR SWING! Tell your fitter your normal ball flight, your desired ball flight if different and get to work, trusting your fitter, the data and the process.
> Last and most importantly - HAVE FUN! You are getting dedicated time with a club expert who's sole job is to HELP YOU! Ask questions, tell your fitter what you like and don't like, tell them how that last shot felt and ENJOY THE RIDE!

i just let 'er rip..... i look at a fitting sorta like going for a test drive of every car i've ever wanted to try regardless of whether or not i could afford it.
Enjoy it!

Yes. Nerves are natural. You want to have your A game and show what you can do. My first few swings in front of someone critiquing or measuring me are almost always crappy.

A bit.
But my biggest issue is that I'm not comfortable hitting indoors into a screen.
Best fittings I've had were outdoors, hitting off grass. ( Hot Stix in Scottsdale for one )

Nah, I think they are fun.. You are hitting balls and chatting golf. What's to get nervous about?

I enjoyed my fitting and don't recall being nervous, other than maybe the fact that it was the first time. Once I swung the club a few times all was well and it was cool to see the data.

I did. Until, I found a fitter that I was comfortable with.

Nah, I know they’ve seen worse. It’s my job to show them what I’m working with, and their job to find nags that fit and help. No shame or nerves on my part
