Have they though? What are you nervous about? I promise the fitter has seen way worse swings
That could be what makes you the most nervous, you could be THAT guy haha.Have they though?![]()
No, not really.I’ve had a handful of fittings and every time I have an awful nervy swing. I can never relax and just swing
Finally get back to this post... Some great comments already and a few of my thoughts:
> Two things to remember when you go to a fitting - You will NOT be the best player the fitter has seen and you will not be the worst player the fitter has seen. I'm absolutely sure of it. So just be you. The fitter is not going to be impressed if you hit your 7-iron 175 or think less of you if you hit it 105 yards. He or she wants to help you play YOUR best golf. Whatever that is and wherever you are on your golf journey. I promise experienced fitters have SEEN SOME THINGS and the chances of you making the best/worst list is extremely, extremely small.
> Let's go worst case scenario for a minute - You sh*nk for first 6 shots. Who cares?!???! You think your fitter is going to use any of those? Of course not. He or she will wait until you hit on the face to make any real judgements. They may try a lighter/heavier/stiffer/softer shaft if they see something in your delivery or give you a different head just so you have something different to look at, but as for the sh*nks, who cares?!!???
> As with playing golf, manage your expectations! (Lou Stagner from the top rope!) Guess what - You are likely NOT going have your BEST or your WORST swing the day you get fit. Why? Because by definition those are rare occurrences. You will probably hit a bunch of good shots, like normal, and hit several poor ones, like normal. Why? Because you are an accountant or a truck driver or a barista or an engineer and NOT a professional golfer. Misses are EXPECTED from ALL golfers by ALL fitters!
> If you feel nervous, SAY SOMETHING! Don't hide it. In fact, it will probably help you to vocalize and own the situation.
> Now as for coming off a layoff, if you haven't swung a club in 3 months that probably isn't the right time to get fit. But if you are an experienced golfer who took a break for whatever reason, but have played a few times and hit balls, its probably fine.
> Please, please, please SWING YOUR SWING! Tell your fitter your normal ball flight, your desired ball flight if different and get to work, trusting your fitter, the data and the process.
> Last and most importantly - HAVE FUN! You are getting dedicated time with a club expert who's sole job is to HELP YOU! Ask questions, tell your fitter what you like and don't like, tell them how that last shot felt and ENJOY THE RIDE!
