So, I’m currently on IR having injured my left shoulder/back area. I’m being intentionally vague because it’s either a muscle/rib tear, nerve impingement, or a disk issue. Been to a spine specialist and we are waiting to see if it heals with conservative treatment before considering more drastic things. Killing me not being able to swing a golf club right now.

I do not recall a traumatic or precipitating event, but here’s basically what transpired. I noticed a little tightness after a couple of range sessions prior to a big golf weekend. My best friend drove down and we played 5 rounds in 3 days. I played well and other than that mild soreness, had no issues. But that next week the soreness progressed to pain and then to severe pain, bad enough I was sleeping in a recliner before finally getting seen by an ortho PA.

So now to my question... the only thing different from that weekend to any number of golf weekends I’ve participated in is that I tried out a significantly stronger grip than I usually use. Ive had a tendency to slice crop up recently and thought a stronger grip would help me keep the club face closed more consistently. Since then Ive been wondering if that minor change could’ve put stress on part of my shoulder/back that wasn’t used to it (especially since I used it for 5 rounds back to back)?

Anyone else made a swing or grip change and had it cause you physical problems or injury?

yes and just in last three months. With Covid, I hit about 50 balls 5 of 7 days a week since March. Have played golf 30 years. about 2 months ago I am about 40 balls into my routine and hitting it great when I literally feel and think I hear a POP in my left hip. For a week trying to sleep it was like I had a huge bruise.

Cause- in the process of improving posture and letting my left side lead I was really posting up nicely on a nearly straight left leg. Clearly not what I'd been doing for the prior 6 months of COVID and because of age, I damaged something. I have soreness now when I play. but I'm hitting the irons and woods so nice(y)

golf is a young persons sport. I wish I knew what I know about it when I was 25.

I recently hurt myself making a swing change. I always come out a little over the top, so I started to work on shallowing out the club. Well, I injured my rotator cuff a bit making the change. I didn't even know I did it until I got home. I thought I was just having a horrible day at the range - heeling every shot. So, I'm in recovery mode right now.
