JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The 20-year-old Ping wedges with square grooves will no longer be allowed on the PGA Tour starting March 29 under an agreement reached with the Ping executives.

Ping chairman and CEO John Solheim said Monday that Ping will waive its rights to a settlement that had kept the PGA Tour from banning the deeper, wider grooves that no longer conform under new regulations.

Those wedges were allowed through a settlement in 1990 from when Ping sued the PGA Tour and the U.S. Golf Association.

Phil Mickelson, Hunter Mahan and Fred Couples were among players who had used the Ping wedges this year.

What about the wedges out there (old and new) with so-called ZIP grooves?

They've been illegal for tour players since Jan 1.

Cleveland still has zip grooves that are conforming or they just still use the name?

The new Zip Grooves in the CG 15's are V grooves that conform to the rules.
