Fred Couples gaming 6 woods this week

My Dad goes with a driver, 3w, 5w, 7w, 9w and a hybrid.

And then pulls a 3i just for the fun of it.

would love to know what the hybrids are.

When I saw the title of the article that this post is based on I was wondering if Fred Couples was maybe playing a 7, 9 and an 11 wood. A 9 or 11 wood is kind of hard to come by and would be noteworthy. Was a bit disappointed to find out that 3 of the 6 clubs were hybrids and that only 2 of the clubs are actually fairway woods.

After quite a bit of experimenting over the past few years my normal everyday set-up at the top of my bag that gives me the best combination of yardage gapping and ball flight options is Driver, 4 wood, 7 wood, 5 hybrid, then 5 iron..

The 6 hybrid is something I’ve dabbled with a couple of times. But for me it has flown too high, spun too much and been prone to ballooning in the wind.

I have also tried 4, 5 & 6 utility irons but have found that they didn’t gap well with my other clubs.

For specific courses I’ll swap a 13 degree 3 wood into the bag. For very windy conditions or when playing on very firm dry fairways sometimes the 21 degree 4 utility iron will get put into the bag.

Glad to see that Fred Couples is not afraid to play the clubs that he feels will give him the best chance at success, whether it is to address his current back injury or to give him the yardage gapping and ball flight that he requires.

Hopefully his example will encourage other people to do the same.

But in the back of my mind I wonder if anyone else questions whether a hybrid is really a wood?

In the article I read, its related to his back troubles. He said at the Masters he had no trouble hitting his driver, fairway woods or hybrid but once he had to start hitting irons it was super painful for him.

Man, he should just be the next spokesperson for Eleven Golf and just play their full set of hybrids down to the PW. They have all of the british youtubers hawking their clubs, could you imagine the exposure Freddie would bring them :D

I am considering a 6H. Have a 5H. Then, irons start at 7i.

do it jewish GIF

Couples probably goes out and shoots a smooth 66 with that setup. I think he could still hit anything with that swing of his.

Ping G430 6H is ordered.

Trevino would say Couples' bag is a bouquet of headcovers.

Even at my age, I am not even thinking of playing anywhere near that many woods, but I am considering reconfiguring my bag such that I carry two drivers.

No driver, so 3/5/7/9 woods, and an 11 wood in the garage that pleads for playing time. No hybrids in bag. I’m really intrigued by UK Eleven-Golf hybrids. May buy their 7 hybrid to test out.

Almost there ...

I believe Freddie finished at -4 after not playing for a while. Something worked. Need to look at the stats.
