I am currently in Northern Idaho visiting family and decided to make the 3 1/2 hour journey to Brewster, Wa to play one for the newest members of Golf Magazine Top 100 courses. Gamble Sands was designed by David McLay Kidd. If that name looks familiar it’s because he designed the original course at Bandon Resort, Bandon Dunes. Gamble Sands reminded of a mix of Bandon Dunes, Old MacDonald and the Dunes course at the Prairie Club. Severe clubs slopes and huge green complexes. The layout was extremely enjoyable and manageable for someone who walks a course like myself. If you can keep the ball down a little and play the run out, plus a half way decent putter you will love this course. I have it in my personal top ten. It’s going to be a bit of a drive from anywhere in Washington state, but it is definitely worth the time and effort.
