Has anyone ever tried anything like this for taking a terrible paint job finish off a putter head? Will it cause any damage to the metal? Will it take the finish off underneath the bad paint? Any ideas or info helps!

Acetone will remove paint and not run the chance of pitting the metal

The majority of abrasive media (for blasting) will not damage the base metal. Generally I use aluminum oxide at 80-120 grit at 90psi to remove finishes, and to clean up inconsistencies in a restoration. Glass beads are more for finishing. Used at a lower pressure, a fine grit bead will create a nice luster.
