I watched a YouTube video tonight with Rick Shiels and Peter Finch doing the 2020 Golfbidder Challenge. Here is the video link

.

The premise is they get £500 pounds to purchase a full bag of used clubs from the warehouse. Then, they review the clubs and play a 18 match play round against each other using the second hand clubs. So, since many of us are socially distancing ourselves, I figured this might be a fun thing to do...virtually! This will be the Global Golf Challenge. I’m assuming that https://www.globalgolf.com/ would be the North American version of Golfbidder. So, the rules are.... 1-You have a budget of $620 dollars(current equivalent to £500 pounds) to purchase a full bag of clubs. 2-You must have 14 clubs; including a driver, at least one fairway wood, and a putter. The other 11 clubs are up to you. 3-Please post details about your clubs...loft, set make up, shafts, and pricing. 4-Tell us why you chose those clubs! REMEMBER...YOU MUST STAY UNDER $620 DOLLARS(Tax and shipping do not apply)!

Driver: Titleist 917 D3 9.5 Degrees $139.99
3 Wood: Cleveland HiBore 3 Wood $29.99
5 Wood: Cleveland Launcher Ti 5 Wood $19.99
4 Hybrid: Mizuno MP Fli-Hi 4H $29.99
Iron Set (5 - GW): Mizuno JPX 825 Pro $239.99
54 Degree Wedge: Hogan Equalizer $62.99
58 Degree Wedge: Hogan Equalizer $62.99
Putter: Yes! Tracy $29.99

If my math is correct, I have $4.08 left from the $620. Did this fairly quickly before bed. Will review again in the morning and offer explanations for my picks.

This is a fun one, thanks! So after digging around on Globalgolf.com, this is the bag I came up with (all prices are clubs currently available in their used selection):

Ping G30 driver, 10.5°, TFC 419D R flex shaft - $149.99
(I've owned this driver, it's familiar to me and I like its performance, especially at that price point)

Ping Rapture 5W, 17° loft, Aldila NVS 75 shaft - $29.99
(Bang for the buck - Raptures were great clubs and underrated. I gamed the K15 for years, which was like the next generation of Rapture clubs)

Taylor Made Rocketballz 4H, 22° loft, RBZ 65 shaft - $69.99
(Bang for the buck again - have hit them and like the performance)

Ping Eye2 Irons 3-PW - $149.99
(I had to! Classic, timeless irons, my all-time favorites)

Callaway MD4 S Grind 54° wedge, TT Gold shaft - $79.99
Callaway MD PM Grind 58° wedge, FST KBS Tour V shaft - $69.99

(Similar to my current gamers, so I'm comfortable with the choices)

Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball putter - $64.99
(Just an easy putter to feel comfortable with)

Total - $614.93

Srixon z765 driver $89.99 - 9.5 loft - miyazaki stiff shaft
Mizuno st 180 3 wood $119.99 - 15 loft - Mitsubishi stiff shaft
Callaway x forged 2009 3-pw $199.99 - royal precision rifle 6.0 shaft
Cleveland Rtx3 black satin SW $44.99 - 56 degree - true temper
Cleveland Rtx3 black satin GAP $44.99 - 52 degree - true temper
Cleveland 588 Rtx black pearl LOB $40.49 - 60 degree- true temper
Ping i series piper h putter $64.99
GRAND TOTAL $605.43
Why did I pick this stuff? For the most part it’s stuff I’ve never played or heard of.

Bridgestone J40 430 Driver 9.5° ($89.99)
Used to own this driver - it wasn’t the most forgiving but boy did it travel when you caught one! Possibly the longest driver I have owned (closely followed by the SLDR 430, which could’ve picked up for a similar price on GG).

Cobra King F6 Baffler 4-5 Wood Fairway Wood ($84.99)
Still have one of these - one of the best fairway woods ever made. Period.

Callaway RAZR X Forged Irons 3-PW ($229.99)
I wanted a set of these so bad when they came out, but I didn’t have the game for them. A good condition set at this price is a steal.

Ben Hogan EQUALIZER Wedges 52 and 58 ($62.99 ea.)
Great value new. Even better value used.

Ping Karsten Series Anser 2 Standard Putter ($64.99)
Classic. Just works.

TOTAL: $595.94

54 Degree Wedge: Hogan Equalizer $62.99

I took the approach of building from wedges and irons first. Chose familiar and proven sticks that I have plenty of experience with. Then went value shopping for FWs (always had good success with Cleveland FWs), hybrid and putter and took what was left to get the best driver with the remaining budget. Majority of shafts are stiff flex with a few regulars thrown in. Would figure out how to make them work.

D: Callaway BB 13.5*, Bassara 50s, $90, I need the HL head so this was another need!
FW: Tour Edge HL3 3w/KK 60s, $50

3h Cobra F9/Atmos 7s, $90
4-SW Ping g10 stiff, $300
LW Ping Tour Gorge, $22.50
P: Ping Cadence TR Heavy, $60
Total: $612.5, that's as close as I could get, maybe I'll take a few stroke penalty for going over!

This was fun!

I cry foul: this website is not very friendly to Canadian left-handers! The first issue I ran into was that I couldn't get the site to display in $USD:banghead: so I had to "bend" the rules a bit and convert my $620 to CAD. Today's exchange rate was 1.40, so my $620 netted me $868.

Driver: Cobra King F7 Black Driver Adjustable Loft $ 163.16 fourth cheapest driver, only one of the four I would play
FW1: TalyorMade Burner Steel 3 Wood $ 35.59 cheapest 3W I could get
FW2: TaylorMade AeroBurner 5 Wood $ 23.72 not sure why I put in a 5W, but I needed to have 14 clubs
H1: TaylorMade RocketBallz Rescue 3H $33.36 the rocketballz were a decent line, had one of the fairways until I broke the shaft
H2: TaylorMade M2 Rescue 2017 4H $ 33.36 the M2 was a decent upgrade to the rocketballz
I: Cleveland CG Black 2013 4-PW Iron Set $ 400.50 my gamers are a previous generation CG7. The only cheaper set was an Adams but only got me 5 clubs....
W: Titleist Vokey SM6 Tour Chrome M Grind SW $ 44.49 gotta have a Vokey wedge in the bag
P: TaylorMade Redline 17 Monte Carlo Standard Putter $ 44.49 any old blade putter will do me fine

If I've done the math correctly I have $ 89.33 left over. I can get a dozen AVX prior generation for $ 59.32. $ 30.01 left - first round of 🍺drinks🍺 on me?

I very strange bag but I could make it work with just 1 wedge

Driver - Callaway XR w/ Project X LZ shaft - 89.99 (Decent driver w/ a good shaft and good price)
3 Wood - Mizuno ST190 3 Wood Fairway Wood 15° - 109.99 (Originally had a much cheaper club here, had an extra 100 in the budget when I got to the bottom and decided to go all out on this club)
Irons - Mizuno MP-59 3-PW - 249.49 (Cavity back irons that look good)
52 - Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can '09 Gap Wedge - 19.99 (cheap and with an oil can finish - I have a spin milled vokey that I hit well also)
56 - Callaway MD3 Milled W Grind - 49.99 (12 degrees bounce - good wedge)
60 - Titleist Vokey SM5 Gold Nickel M Grind - 25.49 (60 degree wedge 8 degrees of bounce and it looks good)
