Golf's Longest Day

The story about the UPS driver was a tough one. Walked off the 18th after his first round, went straight to lunch and forgot to go to the scoring area to sign his card and turn it in. He realized it 20 minutes later and the group behind him had already come in and been scored, so he was DQ'ed. That's a hard lesson to learn.
Oof that’s gonna leave a mental scar

Max 4 putts to miss out. After the 3 putt on his last hole in regulation to put him in the playoff.
Harsh ending for an “interesting” day for Homa. Carried his bag for 36 plus holes. There apparently is a story behind that. I read an unconfirmed report about a split with his current caddie. Missed qualifying outright with a 3 putt and then failed to advance in the playoff. Lost out on an alternate with a horrible four putt.

Hard not to root for that guy.
Sorry. I don’t like dentists. :ROFLMAO: Seriously though, he’s a great story for this open at Oakmont.

Totally forgot about this until I saw pic on Facebook of Homa carrying a Stand Bag trying to Qualify

What?!!! That’s crazy

Big names looking to qualify today.

• Rickie Fowler• Max Homa• Padraig Harrington• Matt Kuchar• Stewart Cink• Marc Leishman• Keith Mitchell• Graeme McDowell• Webb Simpson• Brandt Snedeker• Beau Hossler• Jason Dufner• Zach Johnson• Blades Brown• Luke Clanton
Those top two names plupped their games which is great as they are my favorites, but unfortunately they came up one or two shots short. First time Fowler and Homa missed in the past few years.

I don't know if I like the fact that big names have to qualify like this. I mean we have Homa carrying his own bag for 36 holes. Just more watered down fields

I like it because its an "Open" and anyone theoretically can qualify. Its kind of unique (except for British Open which is the same). Its kind of cool seeing pros grinding along with amateurs . It only happens once or twice per year

US Open Golf qualifying is a Meritocracy as it should be. All the spots should be earned.
Sucks for Max Homa but he has no one to blame for missing it but himself.

If he can’t beat other ams carrying their bags, is his absence really a watered down field?

From a TV perspective I do think so yes. I love the US Open and the fact that anyone can qualify but from a viewership perspective I frankly don't care about them. Why? Because rarely do they ever perform well enough to be relevant. Its a good story but I want to see guys I enjoy watching

the event would be well suited that everyone that finishes X in last years event would be included, instead we have some that like it or not will not be on the sunday leaderboard taking spots away from true contenders. Again not saying Fowler, Leishman or Homa are guaranteed to be in top 10, but i would bet their grit on tour stands a little bit taller than some minitour player

I guess you could say though that the way Homa is playing, you probably wouldn't see him much either , at least on TV

It's crazy that a year ago basically, he was 9th in the world

Fair I guess but a player like that is more likely to find it and contend then johnny bubblegum who is going to get his teeth kicked in. It goes back to that interview with Jack. Guys like Scottie and Rory aren't going to sweat guys they never heard of on the leaderboard. It just doesn't make it an enjoyable watch, for me anyways. I hope I'm wrong.

I wouldn't have an issue with some special exemptions, but i'd rather it be guys that are really hot (either in terms of play, or just physically attractive men i can watch on TV***)

Like , maybe someone from LIV, DP or PGA who is playing very well recently but didn't qualify, and if they are a recognizable name, even better

*** joking

"Max Homa he stood out at the U.S. Open qualifier in Columbus by carrying his own bag for all 36 holes after splitting with his caddie, Bill Harke, and he declined to discuss that decision."

I tell ya, I pull for Max at each event, but my opinion, I think there are more problems to Max's performance and its not his caddies.

I present to you Xander Schauffele. He was playing on the Web.com Tour in 2017 and earned a spot in the US Open thru qualifying. Finished 5th in the championship and earned a bunch of exemptions and won on the PGA Tour just a few weeks later as a result and ended up where he is now.
