A lot of this is super foreign, but also super interesting. The optimotion is going to be key to understand everything, I think. I’m a data and numbers guy, so knowing what angle you are at (for example) goes a long way to understanding how far off you are to a goal number.

Does he just hit you with the noodle when you do something wrong? It would motivate me if that's what my instructor did.
I feel like this could be an effective method of instruction for more than a few of us

I never feel much in the swing. When I do feel something it is often not real or even wrong. When your coach says, “that’s it” and you think it feels wrong but you can see that it isn’t, there are improvements made.

Example, he told me to tee up driver father back in my stance. It felt so wrong, like literally, I felt like I was teeing it up in the middle of my stance. But then i look at the video and see that it is right. The “bad” feeling goes away faster. We aren’t really focusing on numbers except eliminating anything “red”. It isn’t like we measuring that the ball should be 3” from my left heel and 27” from the left toe.

When I first started seeing GOLFTEC feedback, I thought they were going to try and chase numbers for the sake of chasing and knew that my swing was never going to be as good as a pro or robot. It hasn’t been like that at all. Just like any other lessons that I have had but with a lot more visual feedback

Love seeing all the work being put in and progress in here. Really inspiring. Keep up the good work everyone!
Thanks for the words of inspiration! My next lesson is on the 19th so I'm grinding trying to make sure I'm where I need to be by the lesson. I had to redo some of my workout to get more flexibility.. Man I'm so old =(

I think the backswing portion of my journey is clicking for me now. If you're taking lessons you've probably seen this drill. I had to dedicate a lot of time to this motion as I was very different for a long time since I came back. With my shoulder injury this one feels a lot better. I just need to work on the sequencing to start the downswing now. It's still hit or miss, when I sequence right I'm about 4 down AoA and getting 7i ball speeds back in the 120's. When I'm not, I'm shallow and flying the ball 140feet in the air.. LOL

Lessons on the 19th so hoping to be a little closer by that point to see my numbers on the OPTIMOTION.

How are you guys approaching changing equipment while taking lessons?

Any consideration to just sticking with what you have while you are making any changes to the swing?
This is a great question. I got to a point in my lessons where my coach noticed that the changes we were working on was sticking with wedges and shorter irons but not mid/long irons. We realized that I was trying to use my swing to hit the ball and make it do certain things rather than just swinging. We decided to do a fitting and see if I was in the right setup. I ended up going to a new iron and lower flex shaft because I felt comfortable knowing the club was doing the work that way. The lessons started taking better and we’ve moved to bigger changes now.

I had a similar experience with putter. I ended up being fit for the putter that I already have, just needed to make a change to the grip.

The best thing is that any change you make, you can get right into the bay, turn the camera and homework on, and you’ll know right away if the new club is working for or against you.

golf is frustrating. Take GOLFTEC lessons, practice and commit to getting better and then shoot 47 on the front with 2 triples.

It is hard to convince yourself that the swing is better, when you do that. But I do believe my swing is better despite the score. But damn…

I hope that it shows at some point.

Not only is golf frustrating, but change is frustrating and difficult on top of that. It's tough but keep up the good work

Went to book a practice session this morning for this week and the whole week and next week is unavailable outside of some 8am or 2pm times. Nothing after work for the next 2 weeks. Not going to lie, good for GOLFTEC, but extremely frustrating

Is there ever any luck with calling and seeing if they can do anything? For what these packages cost, this needs to be better

Calling? Yeah I don't do that haha. I assume they are just super busy with lessons and people are booking out weeks in advance due to the weather here. There are time slots available just none that work for my schedule. I might just have to start going at 8am and head into the office later.

haha I feel that. Hope the mornings work out for you

Maybe it will feel like I'm playing golf by doing that since its close to my preferred tee time anyway haha

Is there another location close enough that might have more availability?

I also know that at my location out here there were a couple days completely unavailable this coming week because one of the two coaches is going on vacation.

I know calling sucks but I *think* GOLFTEC doesn't show every available time slot in the app so there can be some open for impromptu lessons. May be worth it, but can also just go early like you're saying.

This was just for practice sessions. There is another location thats around but its a bit out of my way for anything tbh.

I've found the same trying to book a swing analysis. I am hoping this is not a sign of difficulties for after work lessons.

Yeah, even practice sessions were unavailable because one of the coaches has to set up the bays for practice. And of course the only day I have available this week is one of those two days so no practice for me.

That's frustrating knowing how expensive the practice sessions are. I'm assuming it's the busiest time of the year due to weather.

It's hard implementing the changes. My practice has been limited the last few weeks due to being sick, but I've noticed my takeaway is already on a better path. Still not perfect, but getting better. Still lots to work on as we haven't gotten very far past that.

I wish I could explain to you how monumental some of these numbers are for me.

My first Virginia State Golf Association tournament is March 25th so I have a little over a month to get ready. Realistically I'll have to lock in the changes and be okay where I'm at after the next 2 lessons and transition to target golf (you can't golf playing golf swing..LOL). I have a lesson this week so maybe the next 3. There is 1 month gap after the first two tournaments (back-to-back weeks) so I should be able to make progress for the state Open qualifier.

With my current progress, my AoA is a little janky on anything but irons. It's a good thing, means my path has changed and I just need to change what's going on at impact.

For irons, ball is going in the same general area :) so that's progress. I haven't even hit the driver, wedges need work. Focus for the next lesson this week is covering the ball a little better with the new path. Right now, I'm too shallow, not flippy shallow, just a little more than optimal for lower irons.

I'll update after the lesson to see how this goes!

Some thoughts on my lesson today;

I came in pretty rusty. Been more or less off my feet for the last week and didn't get my regular weekly sim hours in with the guys. Fortunately I got there a bit early and had time to warm up. I'm also coming off my first outdoor round of the year and frankly, it didn't go well for the wrong reasons. Driver was actually pretty solid, but irons were nose diving right which is super weird for me.

We noticed as I started my lesson that the irons, which are typically around 7-8 degrees in to out in path, were getting over 10 degrees which is more than we'd like to see. I messed with a few things, but rather than butcher what is actually really good, I just said I would work on it during my own time and we moved into hybrid.

Honestly, the rest of the lesson flew. I was in to out on just about every shot, and we really focused hard on my release of the club through contact. It was like the hybrid of old, carrying around 240, staying relatively straight, and very consistent.

Moving into the driver, we saw fundamental improvements over what I have been producing at Golftec over the last couple months. More often than not, my path was in to out. More often than not, the AoA was balanced if not flowing up. Frankly, this is MASSIVE. A huge part of this is doing less pull inside save and more about just letting the club flow through the ball and release around my body. Working hard on continuing to improve my release angles and finishing a little bit more on my front foot.

It was more about validation. More about celebrating what seems like a pretty significant step forward in my long game, with hopefully a little hurdle to resolve on the mid to short game.

Incredible to get the validation from my coach.
Incredible to see the numbers speak loud.

Another solid lesson in the books. Feels are coming along, change is happening slowly as we work through bigger swing flaws which is frustrating, but in the end will be gratifying. I am lucky enough to have locations where time is not usually at a premium, so after my lesson I had 90min of practice and played some sim golf to work through things in a course scenario. Looking forward to playable weather so we can do some on course work

I just booked a practice session at lunch time tomorrow. If thats what it takes to get practice in, so be it. I can't keep ignoring the practice sessions, they are so important.
