Been grinding, the practice swings and one practice session working on the move we practiced at my last lesson. I’m gonna go play a small course that I can go irons off the tee all the way around and get in some on course practice with the move

Sneaking out to play today, I wanted to leave myself further shots in on this shorter course. I really wanted to hit more irons into greens to see how what I’ve been working on translates to the course.

Trying to place shots off the tee and leave yardages turned out to be an issue and I had a bad day off the tee. One of the things I love about being a GolfTec student is their app that can track your stats in a round and the “terrible tee shot” category 😂. I had what I categorized as 7 terrible tee shots today.

This is where the lessons and their impact thus far really jumped out to me. My iron striking has become noticeably more consistent and good. I’m able to really get myself back in position a lot more consistently. I’m finding that I believe in my irons more so I don’t get that feeling of trying to force a shot in there and recover. It’s leading me to not having blow up holes after a bad tee shot like I have in the past. I’m especially starting to notice really good consistent contact on my wedges, which is a big plus for me.

I ended up settling in today (no warmup and the starter held the twosome in front of me so I felt super rushed) and putting together a nice round. I’m feeling very good about the progress so far. Also I really like the app they have to track the round.

I’m out playing again today with @Paulsack and I’m gonna have some pretty good feedback based on the course we’re playing.

Wanted to take a quick second to show the GOLFTEC app and a feature that I really like about it. Amateurs often get hung up on what’s a good shot or a bad shot. I love the little window that shows the tour average proximity versus what you should expect. Really helps put it into perspective as you prepare for the shot and you look at your results after.

Going to start using their app moving forward so my coach can see my rounds. It actually looks quite good for general use too

I’ve always been a Shot Scope user so I never really tracked with any app. The UX is very simple and easy. I use the most basic inputs. You can set up your bag with your clubs, distances, and do individual shot tracking if you’d like to get really into it. Zero complaints about it so far and I really enjoy having to put that I made a terrible tee shot or bad three putt. Really seems to help me focus so I don’t have to check those boxes.

I’ve had three lessons so far. Your can read the recaps here if you would like
Lesson 1
Lesson 2
Lesson 3

We haven’t done any huge swing changes in my opinion. This is something I was worried about because I’ve been working hard to get better and the last thing I wanted to do was go out and play significantly worse while trying to figure out a “new swing.” The main changes have been little tweaks to my set up and using my body differently to get the club to just ‘fall into place’ as my coach Jordan puts it. Because they’re relatively minor changes, they have been fairly simple to take to with following his advice to take dry swings for a few days before hitting balls.

I’ve really started to notice on course that my swing and results are very different than prior to lessons. My in to out swing path that we wanted to get is there. I see the draw happening. The face to path is getting better. Sometimes still a little too closed, but that’s more on my setup and aim issues being a little to far right and more in to out than I should. And my trail leg pushing more down the line is definitely noticeable. I feel like I’m swinging easier, getting more power, and better consistency.

One crazy thing is that we haven’t touched the driver. It’s been all irons so far. I’ve noticed that my driver has been going much more left than I would like. I don’t feel like I’m swinging over the top because I’m seeing the ball start straight down my line but curve left. I decided yesterday to make an adjustment to the FF33 adapter. Something I’ve never thought I would do actually happened. I had to set the club flatter 🤯. Since starting lessons I’ve gone from D1/C1 to now A8. I had the ball on a string starting right down my line with the tiniest fade. It was beautiful.

I played with @Paulsack yesterday and we’ve played quite a bit together so he knows my game. We haven’t played since lesson 2 though. There were a few shots where he said “you didn’t have that in your bag before!” It was a great feeling.

And because I love tracking and seeing data to back up my visual, I really enjoyed seeing my approach shot data yesterday.

No approach shots short! That confirms to me that the ball contact is vastly improved.

Ok this is cool, admittedly I've never tried the app on course.

It’s probably my favorite feature at the moment. Puts a lot into perspective before and after a shot

You definitely pull driver out of the bag with confidence now. Although your UW must get bored just sitting in the bag now.

Lesson 4 coming up today
Excited Family Guy GIF

Reviewed this as part of my prep for the Bag Boy in May as I was thinking about winter lessons to improve and you all got me hooked Swing Analysis Scheduled for the 22nd so we will see how it goes from there

Ya love to see it. Can't wait to see what you think!

The swing eval is pretty enlightening. It’s crazy how they can give you one little thing in that eval that makes an immediate difference. Makes you walk out thinking “how can I not do this!”

I'll be damned if what I learned this last lesson didn't come in handy at least 4 times during yesterdays round. Wasn't perfect as I haven't practiced much but having another shot in the bag is awesome. Have a tune up lesson on Monday before WWGC and should be good to go.

Oh, also I tried the gps app yesterday for a couple holes. Pretty good but my phone battery was low and I couldn't risk it dying so had to turn it off. Might give that another go at some point.

Lesson 4 is in the books and boy was that a fun one. Coach Jordan decided that we’re going to continue looking at face to path and work on eliminating the big left miss that still shows up. We want to get it into that 2:1 ratio more consistently and the way to attack it is going to be looking at the shoulder turn.

The goal for the shoulder turn is about 71° open at follow through. I tend to be 85+ and even some of my first swings on the day were at 91° open.

We used the Bio Feedback system again for the lesson. It’s set to beep once I hit that 71° turn mark so I have the audible alert that I don’t need to be turned any further. We did slow swings stopping at that beep to get the feel of where the swing ends at the follow through.

Speaking of the follow through, that was the second big focus of the lesson. I tend to get a pretty bad chicken wing going on as a result of overturning and letting the club get ahead of my hands (flipping wrists). We worked on a drill with the alignment stick coming up from the grip, taking a swing, and not letting it smack me in the side. We really focused on over, emphasizing keeping my hands in front of the clubhead.

I have 1 practice drill that I have to really work on over the next week. Take a swing and stop my at arms chest high. Make sure the hands are slightly ahead of the club, even over exaggerating this for now.

Starting swing. End of lesson.

Real good look at how much more out in front the follow through is. Way less to the left here.

Major difference between the start and end here. Got the important numbers into the green range which felt good. Positions look so much better.

Not at GolfTec today, but got indoors and on a launch monitor. The things we have been working on at GolfTec are starting to take hold.

I do still have an issue letting the driver get open. Gotta get that sucker shut.

That looks very smooth and very powerful

Have a little tune up this afternoon. Not sure what we are going to work on but swing was in a good place last Thursday and getting a few swings can't hurt before the WWGC

Have been thinking about lessons after what feel like my swing has totally collapsed into trash.

Have you considered just doing the swing eval and seeing what they say?

Has anyone ever done anything with putting at GolfTec? I'm curious what that looks like.

My last lesson in my last package was putting. Worked on my setup and gave me two things to really start my setup with.
This was about a month before the MC and I think it helped me.

I was crowding the ball standing too close and he gave me a drill to start with ball in between my feet with feet together and move one and then the other to make sure I am centered. This helped remove tension and free up my stroke a bit.

So far so good.

Well **** if that is was spurred your putting at the MC I want, no I need that lesson haha. Maybe I will inquire about that for today.
