Have you considered just doing the swing eval and seeing what they say?
Yeah I have. Just have not done it. I am pretty sure I know what’s wrong. I just don’t know what to do to fix it.

Afraid you are going to blow a ball through the screen?
No. More worried I will just how bad my swing is. Lol..

I know what’s wrong with my swing, it causes very high variance and can be good or just really bad.

At my swing eval, she did give me drills and things to work on. Things to fix the issues, since I didn't know how to fix them.

Well **** if that is was spurred your putting at the MC I want, no I need that lesson haha. Maybe I will inquire about that for today.
I mean I wouldnt hate you putting well this weekend.

LOL I putted pretty well at the MC I thought, was all around the hole I just didn't make anything. It wasn't any of the half way there or 8' past putts haha

I was decent on round 1, not great, but decent.
I worked on the putting green 10 minutes before tee time and involved more of the drills of not hitting the same putt back to back and working on both speed and making them. Day 2 was fantastic.

I havent putt since then, so will see.

Excited for a lesson tonight. Been doing the work to keep the trail elbow in and trying to get it to feel more natural. I think I need to be a bit less upright so my arms can clear but we'll see what coach says.

This is the hardest swing change I've had incorporating into my game but there's a path forward and I'm doing a good job not trying to force it on course. Coming off a PB round and huge handicap drops I know the coaching is working.

Have been thinking about lessons after what feel like my swing has totally collapsed into trash.
You should try out the swing eval. It’s pretty cool what they can spot in a short amount of time.

Has anyone ever done anything with putting at GolfTec? I'm curious what that looks like.
In my road map, it’s towards the end of the plan. I’m really looking forward to some help there. For now I’ve been using the mirror here at home.

Yeah, it may happen this year.. just worried that I will do it then not be able to afford the lessons that I would want to take..

It’s possible but the cool thing is you get an idea of the main thing that needs attention first, a couple drills to help that, and a road map of what you need for the full lesson plan. You can break that down into smaller chunks of lesson packages.

Putting is definitely high on my priority list to work on this fall and winter including a fitting potentially

Just had another interesting and fun lesson. Worked on a couple swing things and some putting stuff after asking about it. My coach didn't have another lesson for awhile so we stayed an extra 30 mins to work on putting.

Much to share but too much going on tonight so tomorrow morning I'll be back.

I will say its really coach dependent on how they attack the swing. I meshed really well with my coach and while we are trying to make a few adjustments we aren't rebuilding the swing by any means. I'm so glad I took the leap earlier this year.

Good info..

Good lesson tonight with more to work on. I see the vision, I see where things need to improve, and I see the steps we are taking to get there. I want to emphasize 'see.' having the camera visual aid is an enormous boon to making swing changes.

Real vs feel can slow progress if you can't see it with your own eyes and having visual check points in practice to reinforce the right things makes progress faster and easier.

Should have notes to write it up tomorrow, but I love coaching and I love golftec. Got an extra 15 min out of my coach today as well just because we were chatting as we went through stuff and he didn't have another client.

Feeling hopeful, feeling grateful, and having fun

As promised I'm back with info from yesterdays lesson(s). I had 2 - 30 min lessons the first working on swing and the second was on putting

First we will talk about the swing. While we are not trying to rebuild my swing there are little things like this that can be tweaked that will help misses amongst other things. And for those following along I want to say it again, this kind of stuff is super fun for someone like me. Seeing the differences on camera make it so much easier to describe.

What we worked on today was elbows and keeping them closer together throughout the swing. Below is an image of mine compared to Connie Chen with some measurements and one more with Colin Morikawa.

As you can see below by the images below, where I started with that left elbow flared out chicken wing like on top and on the bottom is where he is trying to get me to be. It feels super awkward and as you can tell by the screen numbers I have to work very slowly to get anywhere near a full swing.

Now, this is not going to happen overnight. It going to take a lot of practice and my coach has provided me some drills to work on. But when you see the numbers using the optimotion software paired with images a lightbulb kind of goes off.

Fnally at the end of the lesson I built it up to a full swing. He put me on a very narrow driving hole and said keep in the fairway with as little sidespin as possible. He actually stopped here and said you may want to take a photo of that haha

I'm no mathematician, but 72 is very very very little side spin. I would say mission accomplished on executing on what your coach asked! Great progress, love the side by sides. It really helps contextualize what they are trying to relay

haha yeah its really fun man. He was like wow thats literally perfect. I'm excited to see where we can go over the winter. I really have to make time to practice this stuff because clearly It can be done, even at my age.

Last lesson my work was on keeping my trail elbow closer to my body in the backswing. Some of this I will need to work on shoulder mobility as my external rotation is not up to snuff, but some of it I think I found something that will help. Getting slightly more bent at the hip rather than being upright is helping my arms get into the correct position and then clear without getting stuck on my body. Will continue drilling that along with last night's lesson.

Last night's lesson focused on takeaway and The Three Circles of Force. How cool of a concept name is that? The concept is basically that the swing is broken down into three circles: The club moving around the hands (wrist hinge), arms around your elbow, and then your shoulders turning. The order is quite important as well!

Here is me before in my takeaway

Notice how there is very little wrist hinge and the hands are almost dragging the club head along. This is messing up the order of the swing. Hands, arms, body vs. arms, body, eventually hands. Here's the difference

Huge difference. Club head is more square and closed (and could be even more so to be honest).

Let's look at a direct comparison:

Before is on the right, after on the left. This is the position I want to hit every time. You'll see me looking at my hands, I believe this was taken during some drills where we were going slow so definitely dont look away from the ball, but you get the point. To go back to my into paragraph, you'll also notice how much more room there is to clear the body with the arms by not coming so inside and rolling everything in and then having to time it all out at the top.

I want to show one more comparison before and after. In the before from the same swing on the right above, I get to this position and then eventually hinge the wrist. The club face is way open and then I have to time everything out and close it down which leads to a lot of inconsistencies which translates to a lot of hooks because I over-close the face.

Vs this position which is from the same swing in the comparison above on the left:

Even my elbow is a bit more tucked here. Just a much more efficient swing that doesn't require the hope and pray timing of the before swing.

To drill this, I will be using my alignment stick held with my club. I should be able to takeaway and have the stick parallel to my feet. Then, as we rotate have it in line with my ball (it won't be exact but it will be pointing in the general direction). This is an easy drill that is visual and should help get the feel with an explicit goal.

Loving the coaching, loving the video element. It truly makes all the difference to be able to see what's happening. I would never be able to feel this out myself.

I've never heard the three circles of force but I agree thats a cool name haha. Really good stuff and its amazing how much more the wrists are involved than many think. Keep working at it, you'll get there.

Have a swing eval booked for Friday. Excited to take this first step.

Had a lesson last night and we worked mainly on driver as we hadn't touched or really discussed that yet. For the most part I've eliminated the slice by working to make sure that my club path is in to out and I'm not coming over the top. My miss is still a slight push to the right which is generally caused by leaving the club face open at impact. He mentioned that during my down swing the club face is pointing up which doesn't allow the club face time to close properly. Took a ton of swings working on closing the face by flexing the wrists properly. He gave me a couple of drills to work on at home regarding my wrists and closing the face. I really like the book drill. You basically grab a book and try to keep it pressed against your arm all the way through the swing as such:

1760475064600.png

Watching the drills they talk about flexing the wrist too much and how opening the face could cause me to add loft and this coupled with the open face causes a loss of a ton of distance.

After my lesson I had practice scheduled and decided to do a quick 9 at Kingsbarn. Ended up shooting par with auto putts on.

For next lesson we talked about working on gapping and getting distances dialed in for my clubs. I had mentioned that I picked up a 19 degree UW recently and it almost goes too far for what I got it for. Might have to reconfigure the bag to make sure that I've got all the distances I need there.

At my swing eval, she did give me drills and things to work on. Things to fix the issues, since I didn't know how to fix them.
At mine they did as well. Even just the bit i got then has helped me a lot this year and i can still access what they gave me to work on which is super nice.
Yeah, it may happen this year.. just worried that I will do it then not be able to afford the lessons that I would want to take..
I feel this. It is exactly how i felt afterwards. I still don't regret it though, and am working on getting to be able to do lessons at some point.
