You said you feel like you are further from the ball. Are you actually further?
Great question. I'm going to go back to beginning of video and see.

If I am farther away its not as much as I feel like it is. Crazy. Feel vs Real.

Having the videos and notes in the app is so valuable. I also love how you can pull up the homework notes on screen when you go into the studio for practice. It’s all really well thought out and setup for you to have success

Should have a great update tomorrow after tonight's lesson. Lots of lightbulb moments for myself and my coach on how to coach me and where to go. Saw some great stuff and have really clear direction on how to implement it

So a few weeks ago things were feeling good with my swing and things were clicking. Started to incorporate more wrist hinge in the takeaway and everything kind of fell apart. Not sure why the sequence really screwed with me but the past 2 weekends have been tough. So I went into the lesson this week fairly down about my swing, couldn't quite find a feel that would produce a swing even up to my level of repeatable. I was telling the coach about this and he just watched me hit for maybe 10 balls before we got to work.

We started with him describing that the trail arm should feel like a bit of a throwing motion. I let him know that's tough for me because I am right handed so, to me, the swing feels more like a pull than a push. And then the lightbulb went off: he didn't know I am right handed. A whole new world of drills and ways to get a new feeling emerged.

First we started with taking half swings with just the left hand. If you've ever tried swinging with just your non-dominant hand you'll know it is a humbling experience lol. But the more you work at anything the better you get so we worked at it. We also worked on one handed swings with a great training aid called The Swing Setter. It has magnetic balls cut in half on a slider and its another aid that teaches you how to release the club at the right time.

After working on the throwing motion and that feeling of keeping my elbow in more I saw immediate results. Literal first swing even though it felt so alien the contact was fantastic. Here is a before and after look of me (on the right) overswinging, elbow too far out, feeling like I am pulling the club with my lead hand vs me (on the left) getting the elbow in a lot more, swinging less, and feeling like a throwing motion:

Vs getting in the slot

I practiced a good bit after the lesson on this feeling and contact was very good. I think I am pushing, but that's something that can get worked out as I get better. I believe I have been really hooky lately because I am getting stuck in the downswing. Elbow has no where to go when it's out and it's going into my body. Need to work on getting my arms in front of my body a bit better and I am guessing that will clear up the push too. For now I am focused on the drills and feels from this lesson and if I need to aim right for a round or two, that's fine.

The final thing I need to work on, which will take a lot more time is stretching the external rotation of my shoulders. Will have the fiance help me with that as it's hard to get on my own, but if I can allow more free movement of the trail arm it will only help free up the swing.

In coaching communication is key and a two way street. That's one thing I have enjoyed with this coach is I vocalized that I do exceedingly well with structured clear homework and he provides me specific drills to work on so I know exactly what to put my energy into. This week's homework is left-handed swings with a club and while at practice with the Swing Setter if it's not being used. On Optimotion I will be focusing on shoulder turn trying to get as close to 90* as possible. Otherwise it's just engraining that throwing motion and, from my practice, try to stop pushing it with the new feel.

Little late to the party but swing evaluation is scheduled for tomorrow. Let's get this journey started.

Had a really solid lesson last night. We worked on my takeaway and keeping my trail arm straight and close to the body.

From the before swing you can see my trail arm breaking down and starting to bend as I take the club way too far back

I really focused on keeping the arm straight, and not going as high in the back swing. Keeping it closer to the body and swinging around and not necessarily up. It really helps in the downswing and shallows the club so much easier

To accentuate this and get used to the feeling he had me take 3/4 swings. My 7 iron normally goes about 155 with a full swing. On the 3/4 swings I was hitting 165 carry and getting a really nice baby draw. I had told him that before I started lessons up again my miss with my irons was generally a weak fade, and it seemed like the ball would just fall off to the right. So I'd typically aim left of where I wanted the ball to end up because with the fade it would generally end up where I wanted. With the more consistent draw I've been getting I'm adjusting my aim to the right of the area and getting much better shots overall. It'll take some time for this to be fully ingrained but really liking the work we've put in

Last week in my lesson I worked on the closer stance for my wedge shots to get that better control. That new setup stuck with me right away on course Sunday not having a single chunked wedge all round.

This morning in my hour practice, I decided to continue working on the wedge shot with just the 54°, but really try to move around and find the feel for different distances.

I setup the on-course practice play to hit shots into the 18th at Pebble. Having a green and a flag to shoot at is a fun option for practice. I like how it adds a little bit of pressure and desire to make a good shot. I bounced around between 35-95 yards working on that nice smooth swing and good contact. I only used my 54° wedge for all the distances to work on getting comfortable controlling distance with it, even if I was opening the face and trying to hit high soft shots on short distances.

The practice went really well and I’m starting to feel very comfortable with this new wedge set up.

Shout out to GOLFTEC for the tripod that we got at the experience to be able to film shots and look back at them.

What is wrong with you lefties? We have @Muchmore playing left and putting right, now we find out you are right handed but play left? 🤣🤣

Thats some nice work.
Thanks! Wedges were definitely the area that I really wanted to look at going into this. In my swing eval I mentioned to my coach that I often felt scared to hit them.

When he said that we were in a good enough spot to move to them the other day, I was excited. It’s pretty mind blowing how a little adjustment can make such a big impact.

I definitely thought going into GOLFTEC lessons that I would need bigger changes. Almost a full swing overhaul. I’m happy that is not the case and I’m able to get help while building to improve, not tearing my swing down.

Really excited to practice today. Loved the feel I had going Tues and if I can work through a push it's gonna be a great weekend :D
