Did the front 9 at Bethpage a couple weeks ago. Totally understand why that course is so hard after just that sim round
It's easy to shoot under par using the mulligan button, it turns out.

Need that in real life in case I ever end up playing there. Got offered when I was living in Brooklyn but was a 20+ handicap at the time and didn't think I'd have any fun shooting 140 out there

Here's something to check out as well. I'm not putting a ton of thought right now into how deep my swing goes back - and look at my 8 iron at the top. With a couple of these tweaks like the right knee bend and now this subtle new move, it's getting me away from really blasting beyond parallel. I'm so excited to see this.

The subtle bend in the left arm is something I've had forever. It'll be interesting to see if I can remove that as well over time.

This is the primary point of discussion during my lesson today. After 30+ years of being told to keep my head down, we're moving toward letting it release better toward the target - and getting that shoulder bend to be backward rather than my typical 9 degree forward.

man, I really thought today was going to be a throw away session because I didn't put the time in over the last week (couldn't - home stuff). Turns out it was quite the opposite. That's so freaking telling to me. It wasn't a re-run, it was validation and then a push into a new move.

I'm sore now after a post lesson practice session that included a round at French Lick and the front 9 at Bethpage.
You got to play sim golf during a practice session? Or did you go somewhere else?

And after working through it for about 10 minutes, really exploring that move, here's the result.

What is the shoulder bend measuring there?

I set up for the typical practice post lesson (I book an hour) and decided after five minutes that I wanted to take these swing thoughts to the course. I just backed out of the practice and switched to course play.

You can do course play during the practice sessions. In my hour yesterday I spent the first half with the range up and then spent the next half hour playing a few holes.

I'd love to feature the availability of course play as well. After deciding I didn't feel like mindlessly ripping drivers, I opted to back out of the range view and move to course play to try and apply the new move to different clubs on the fly, using the mulligan feature when necessary to hammer home the feeling.

It was WAY more fun that way. Not to mention, a lot harder to refine the move as you're constantly switching clubs.

I'm very impressed with how easy it is to do switching from lesson to range to fun time.

I had no idea this was allowed. To be fair I never even really considered it

This is a great reminder to actually try this in my next practice session. I have literally never played SIM golf and I have access so why not!

It is an AWESOME way to use your weekly practice time.

Take whatever you've learned, and force apply it on every shot on a hole, and mully every time you get it wrong. SO much better than mindless repetition on the range.

I can't wait to see how it goes. Auto putt matters lmao

I could be wrong (don't have my data from yesterday yet), but I also believe it still logs the data from any shot that was a mulligan. So if you want to go back and look at what went wrong on some of the shots you throw away you still can.

Oh no, we don't look at that. Those go bye bye.

Person dependent of course. Sometimes when I'm working on something specific like it's helpful to see that data but on course results are certainly important too. But this is good to know.

Did you play on Ryder Cup settings? Low rough, soft greens, drunk & angry Americans?
No, but it's funny how many spots I ended up in where during the Ryder Cup I said "what a dork how do you hit it there?"

Went for lesson as I mentioned earlier. Pretty much first time I've swung a club since last month outside of a few random swings here and there. Felt pretty good but certainly noticed a trend today. That trend was straight pushes to the right. No real curve to the ball, face and path were matched up pretty well. Over the course of these lessons I've learned quite a bit about my golf swing but today was one of those days where I was consistent but at the same time I would have been missing greens all day to the right. Straight pushes.

Something I want to mention is that as amateur golfers I think at some point we have asked others or wondered to ourselves why pros have swing coaches. Maybe not, maybe I'm alone because everyone thinks differently, but I know I have said if its not broke why are they constantly trying to fix it? My guess now, is something happened along the way, whether it was an injury or something else, they sought help and became obsessed with the swing and trying to make changes to be perfect. I never quite got it but now I do.

The above was something I noticed during warmup. It's something I've noticed previously as well but based on ball flight on course its not really a huge concern. I'm not perfect, not even close but I manage to keep the ball in front of me most of the time. My coach came in and asked what was going on today and had me hit 5 shots. I managed to hit 5 shots exactly as I had described somehow, it was glorious because that never happens LOL. So todays lesson would be about controlling the club face without adjusting anything else.

So the part about about the swing coach earlier...he noticed 2 things right away. I had gotten lazy with my grip and at the top/start of the downswing I had managed to cup my wrists, both leading to an open club face. I am usually pretty good about my grip but hadn't noticed and the cupped wrist thing is a fault of mine. Either way pretty damn cool that it's noticed right away and is an easy fix but I'm having to work hard at it. This is where a swing coach becomes so valuable.

Don't have my last lesson on the app yet but when I do I'll come back and add images.

Tonight is a tough one on the path towards The Winter Early Extension Dies and other things. It has a little bit of everything: swing changes, hip activation, training aids, a human R2-D2
