I am semi confident in my ability to get off the tee (decently, especially with wide fairways), but the rest of it is a total trick or treat from there. Wind is going to be the the big unknown. I have no idea how I am going to play in it. Maybe just hit a bunch of low bullets and let them run. Ground and pound.
Take an extra club or 2 and swing easy. You will hit the ball a little lower and with a bit less spin. Flying the ball to the hole isn’t going to be the play in the wind on most holes. Other than some of the par 3s you can roll it up on almost every hole.

Who doesn't love seeing a "First hole at" thread! 🔥

Man, I was so ready to pull driver. Reading the thread, seems like it might be a club down kind of opener

You and your big hitter problems…

I'm w/ you... I don't know a hole where I can't hit driver that isn't a par 3.

These are awesome @Templet0n ... So glad you are doing GrayBull.

Thanks sir for the write up!

Thanks. Keep watch. The holes get fun!!
I know! I've only watched the course overview 12x today! Your breakdowns are great though and really thoughtful

Driver in my head (aim left - fade it back), but this thread says 3w or 5w. Hmmm.

As someone who prefers to hit a draw, I love starting with a dogleg left. I am used to playing in wind but wind without trees is a different "treat" ... hopefully one day I get to experience this magical place.

Less than driver here is ideal.

That left side sneaks up on you, to a near blind shot into the green from the right.

And that green was HARD, and creates some challenges if your long. Best shot here is front to front left just off the green, for a little putt through the collar.

Everything about the first tee at a THP experience says driver. Sounds like it’s a good thing I’m feeling as comfortable with the Elyte 3W to start the round out.

How long had the course been open when you guys played it last year?

A month or two.
So kind of like the new Hideaway greens last year? Would you assume they will soften up a bit comparatively to last year when THPers make their way there this year? Of course the wind will be a major factor still but I figured I'd ask

Maybe slightly, but I talked to someone there yesterday and he said they are still expecting a pretty firm year.

I like a good dogleg left starting hole

I got excited when I read the phrase “low stress opening tee shot” and then I read the rest of the thread and am nervous again hahaha. I don’t have a ton of confidence in 3 wood off the tee but if driver is too much club I don’t want to get myself in trouble by going long.
