Handicap Index - PCC Adjustments

39 rounds entered and 7 PCC adjustments. 6 positive (harder) PCC and 1 negative (on my PB round :ROFLMAO: )

Eff them - it was a great round!
I ain't giving it back. :ROFLMAO:

Not worried about it at all. Got to take advantage when the opportunity exists.

Yes.

But here’s the thing about those PCC…. You have to have enough GHIN players post on the same course and day for it to make an adjustment.

Meaning you could play in dreadful conditions…but not get a pcc boost.
That is where the system is broken. I have played a few rounds in terrible weather or extreme winds, and no one posts scores so it does you no good.

There is a part of me that says it is not worth posting scores that were played in extreme conditions. With AI and instant weather reporting, this should not even be a thing.

I have about 100 rounds posted in 2025 and only 3 have a PCC adjustment. 2 negative and 1 positive. I find that a bit comical and arbitrary being that I play in Oklahoma with crazy winds often but oh well.
This is about what I see most years. The craziest weather rounds that really deserve an adjustment never seem to get one because everyone stays home and we’re the only ones out there. Not enough rounds get posted to trigger anything.

Great point. Unless it is a tournament or MGA day there probably aren't enough scores for it to be recognized.

Our most common + adjustment is on tournament qualifying days. The course is usually firm, fast and hard. And everything needs to be holed…. Funny how that works.

I only have 1. Had a +1 added to a round due to great weather and everyone scoring well that day.

It’s counterintuitive- that +.5 means the course was playing harder. So it makes it more likely that the score would be included in the 8. The +.5 gets deducted from the score differential. Dumb nomenclature.

Well damn. I had no idea.

It’s actually the opposite. +1 means the scores were generally higher that day. You beat the field!

I've had one +3-cold windy day, 1 +2 and 2 +1.

Yep. Sorry. It was a -1. I did not beat the field that day.

I've had some that were absolute head scratchers, on perfectly beautiful days, figured there must have been some serious sandbaggers posting big scores before a tournament or something.

Had about a half a dozen this year I’d say. Most of them on the same course that IMO is rated too low by USGA and is very exposed to prevailing south winds. Usually if PCC shows up it is between +.5-1.5 but I’ve seen a 3.

The others were on a pretty easy 9 hole muni that I play a lot and are usually in the -.5 or -1.0 category.

None of my last 20. I have to go back to April 26 to get one with an adjustment of +1.
3/8 and 1/29 also had +1, so that is 3 times out of 50 posted rounds.

I don't know how many scores you need, but i'd guess this happens a lot more at private clubs where most players are likely to post.

At a public course, probably more than 50% of the people playing there aren't posting anyway. So you add bad weather to that.

I have 3 negatives in my handicap this year covering 32 rounds. I think there needs to be a minimum number of rounds posted that day which. I have played a few rounds this year when there weren’t that many other nut jobs out there. It is also always windy at my course and that I believe is factored into the slope so it needs to be extraordinary for it to get factored in.

I was surprised to read it only requires 8 posted scores on the course that day.

Oh wow that's not a lot.

True story, probably my best round of the year came on our 2nd last day of the season here. Shot a 70 in like 2-3C weather and wind. Was super psyched to see my adjustment.....but official posting season for Quebec had ended the day before....round didn't count! LOL

That’s shocking. That’s eclipsed every day at our club no matter the weather (aside from 2-3 weeks in the winter and heavy rain) so I guess GHIN doesn’t care about wind in OK. Or OK golfers are accustomed to it so it doesn’t show up in scores.
