Have you Been Through a Fitting?

I've only been through one full bag fitting.

I have done an iron fitting and a driver fitting.

None of have been brand agnostic.

Yes. Multiple times both indoors (preferable) and indoors. Have been fit for irons, driver, fairway wood and wedges (full swing).

Have never been fit for a putter, hybrids or wedges (hitting short game, chipping & pitching).

Yes and both have been bad - mediocre. The bad one was when I first got back into golf in spring of 24. The mediocre one was more recently for irons only.

Would love to get a fitting from someone who is actually great at their job

I was fit for wedges at a THP Experience and did a shaft fitting with the Mizuno Hot Metals, which coincidentally was also in preparation for an experience.

Yes. A few.

I was fit for driver and irons at Club Champion a couple years ago. I won a free fitting through a Club champion promotion that @JB publicized. Although I thought it was a bit strange to use 6 iron only, their logic in doing so kind of made sense to me. The fitter seemed to really enjoy that I told him anything goes, just find whatever works best. I ended up buying the irons (similar but not exactly what was fit) on the used market later. I didn't get the driver because the improvements were minimal.

I've been through a driver fitting, 2 iron fittings, a wedge fitting, and a putter fitting. These were done either by a local retailer that has a major online presence, or a regional Titleist fitter. I've been happy with the results of each of them and felt I got out of them what I was hoping. All were thorough and I was able to hit different heads, shafts, setup options.

Yes my current set was from a fitting and the results have been positive.

I have been fit several times, the latest was this past May.

I've been through a few in my 50 years of playing golf. The most recent was Feb 25, 2025 at our CC during a Callaway fitting and demo event. I was fit for irons and hybrids by the Callaway fitter Frank using a GCQuad on grass. Before we started, he asked that I stretch and warmup, using my 6 or 7i. He observed my swing and ball flight as he asked what was my expected outcome of the fitting, the reason for wanting a fitting, what is my handicap/18 score, my noticeable miss with my current irons, any health or physical problems he needs to be aware of ( which I had) , am I currently taking any lessons, how often do I play and how often do I practice, what type of courses do I normally play. So far I've been very happy with my fitting, it was a huge change ( from steel to graphite and flex change) from the clubs I had been fit for back in 2017. I say worth it.

One TaylorMade demo day driver “fitting”. One “brand agnostic” CC fitting for irons and driver. One Titleist driver fitting. And one glorious entire bag fitting at ECPC.

I've been through a couple. Some of them I've wondered about things. I swing fast, right around 100 with my 7 iron. Every fitter right away tells me I need X100. I hate X100 for one, I don't play steel anymore, and are they just basing that on speed? What about my swing and delivery, that I know nothing about. Is there something else that works better for me and how I swing is always a thought I have. I just always think fitters look at speed and results to fit you and not necessarily know anything about how someone swings and delivers the club.

Why yes, in December at ECPC.

I’ve been through several and they have all been a good experience. The best of course being at ECPC

5-7 demo days
A driver fitting
A full bag fitting

I have done three driver/FW fittings: 2021 at CC, 2022 through Titleist (thank you, THP!!), and last month at PXG. I did an iron fitting through a Callaway demo day last winter.

Have had at least 14 fittings over the past 15 years that entailed working one on one with a fitter in a dedicated fitting space. All but one used some type of measuring technology to capture swing and ball data. Most common was Trackman followed by GC Quad.

Fittings were about evenly split between indoor with mats only, indoor hitting off of mats to an outside range, and outside hitting off grass. Despite the fact that it can be harder to find and sometimes more expensive I have developed a strong preference for outdoor fittings and/or confirming an indoor fit hitting to an outside range with a final outdoor component for any club that predominately is hit off the turf. My least favorite but probably the most common fitting scenario available is inside only off of mats.

Also have a strong preference to be fit with premium urethane balls instead of range balls. Ideally my gamer ball. If inside only I always bring my gamer ball to the fitting. If outside I will generally confirm the final fit with a sleeve or two of my gamer ball.

Really want to see and feel the turf interaction and ball flight.

Here’s what I remember: The first two of them were for a whole bag. Have always broken up my fittings ever since because of fatigue. Two of the fittings were for putters, one of which used SAM Puttlab the other used no data capturing technology. Two of the fittings were for shafts. Three were for driver. Two for irons. One for wedges. Two for fairway woods and/or hybrids.

Have also accompanied people for 5 fittings. Have participated in numerous demo days. Have also done a lot of trial & error and self fitting for clubs, shafts, and grips during the past 5 years when there was no other alternative to get a fitting for those products.

Many times, and many different sources and types of fittings. I have gone through manufacturer’s fittings, golf specialty store fittings, independent custom fittings, big box store fittings, demo day course fittings, and course instructor fittings.

I have also had many conversations with fitters, instructors, course general managers, and others in the industry about fittings, and various participants in this space.

I have been through multiple. Some were better than others. TrueSpec and ECOC were tops. A box store fittings had mixed results.

Having skimmed the referred to threads, my take is some are confusing the purpose of a fitting and a gapping session. Wanting everything to be magically determined in one perfectly and near free session.

Might not be the place for the question, but I’ve always wondered where an OEM demo day ranks. Obviously TPI and ECPC are the tops, but I’m curious the take on an OEM rep at your home course.

I have done two fittings since 2019 after joining THP. I had one other around 2005.

All three were mostly good. One of them they were clearly pushing me into clubs I wasn’t there to fit.

I don’t consider all of the times I have been to stores and tried equipment with a monitor as “fittings”

Not since my first year of starting golf where I got fit into PingG425 and Callaway Apex DCB irons. Have just been self fitting and tinkering since then after falling in love with gear

My upcoming driver fitting this year will be my first fit since then

Sure have... just last month. Ended up in graphite iron shafts which I never have played before.
I've been thinking of switching to graphite. I hear nothing but good things compared to steel shafts.

I have not gone for a fitting since I started to better understand my needs. I feel like I didn't understand the first one that I went to and the next time that I do it because I'm more knowledgeable it'll be way better for me.

My putter fitting was the best one that I've had I felt like being able to get one club fit helped my mind a bit.

Multiple over the years. Big fan. Kind of like going to an impartial doctor.
