If you think that's price-gouging, wait'll you see what a round of golf in the CSRA costs in April. It's not until you get down here that you realize how small the Augusta area is and how badly it bursts at the seams during Masters week. Add in that Fort Eisenhower has grown considerably in the past several years, and how badly the area has dealt with that growth, and you start to see that a) Augusta hasn't been built to handle how big the Masters has gotten since the late-90s, b) the old money here doesn't really care because they're either at the golf course or on vacation during Masters week(s) and c) the towns outside of Augusta, like Grovetown, Harlem, Thompson, Edgefield, and Aiken, are residential and not really interested in changing just to make more room for a two-week event in April. I will say if someone didn't book their lodging back in the summer when the lottery results came out, yeah, they're the last dog at the bowl. Those hotels have been booked solid in April for months already.
It's not a lot of fun! There's a reason I was on a cruise last spring. The upside, if you work anywhere besides Augusta proper it's basically like an extra Christmas break because the office is a ghosttown. Now imagine you're a resident of Augusta and try to go out to eat during that week?
