How Did You Choose Your Iron Shafts?

Currently playing the stock shafts just to try them, but I was fit for the Nippon Modus 120's. Which I have and plan to put into the Cobra LIMIT3D's at some point. Just giving the stock shafts a chance for now before I do that. Why I like the Nippon's though is the spin and flight control, and they have a great feel to them when swinging.

Blind purchase of Recoil Darts, mostly based on THP reviews and feedback.

I love my Modus shafts. I would love to find a graphite that is similar.

I attended a "Titleist Fitting"
- certified fitter who is a Titleist employee
- largest club and shaft fitting matrix
- Trackman monitor using ProV balls

Blind purchase for me. But it was more of a legally blind, not full blind. I did a little research.

Short answer is blind buys and doing my own club work.

I wanted to switch to graphite and read that the flex profile of the MMT 125tx was modeled after the DG x100 so I blind ordered some pulls cheap and put them in a set of irons to try them out as cheaply as possible. Thought they were great and decided to go graphite in another iron set I had and put in mmt 105tx because they are lighter.

After reading a ton of positive things about the Dart V I wanted to try them and try dropping another 10g. So I bought dart v 105s shafts and heads to test with.

All 3 work great. I’m probably putting the irons with mmt 125’s back in the bag.

The last set I fit myself. As in I went to GG and got a bunch of different combinations and dialed in to what felt the best.

With my newest irons I just went to a lighter shaft. Other specs are the same.

My last two sets were through fitting.
The first a dedicated iron fitting.
The second a full bag fitting.

The next one? Will be completely blind.

I was fit into something very similar, but went with the shafts I have because they were available in a stock offering for the heads I was fit to.

What made you choose them?
Fit. Had 3 iron fittings two were same daft, last one was very similar profile, just lighter.

Fit at ECPC, but they are the same model graphite shaft but in a lower weight class than I was previously playing.

Wanted graphite. Based on feelings of what I did swing, we ended up with a weight and flex that worked but I didn’t swing the HDC. Knew I liked that profile though so we went with it.

Not a true fitting but after hitting a couple of different shafts that were available, the pro i bought them from (a buddy of mine) was pretty comfortable in recommending the shafts i'm in now. PING AWT 2.0 (stiff). I feel like they've been quite good for me, actually and no complaints. I'm due for new irons so we'll see what happens. I'm going to go for a full iron fitting.

I was fit into them at a local fitter. The KC folks probably know of the place, Golf MD.

For me it was a mix of fittings and buying used demo 6 or 7 irons. I have a good collection of the popular ones, S300, X100, C Taper, Project X. When I swing those I get a good idea of what I like and don't with how I'm swinging. I take all that info and ... end up in Modus 120. So, now I just pick Modus 120 s or x depending on how I'm swinging at the time.

Fit and recommended by @DannyLe for the DART Recoils, prior to that it was trial and error and landing on the OG Recoil 95's

With irons, I am hesitant to blind purchase, primarily due to fear of picking the wrong shafts. Fortunately was fit for the current set. A bit lighter and softer than I have been previously playing.

I was fit.

Fit into them at a Callaway demo day.

Reviews here on THP. Blind purchase based on the group that was selected the Modus 110 shafts and Jman's home page article. I knew what flex I needed and length, but couldn't test them so trusted what I read on here.

Chosen from a series of fittings leading to the PX Rifle 6.5 . They have been working really well, but I do wonder if something is out there that would help me launch the ball a bit lower while maintaining good contact. I tried the PX LZ at the time and it didn't fit as well but I may circle back to that next time around.

Prefer to be fit into them but have bought off the shelf before

I was lucky enough to review some UST Mamya iron shafts and was sold on their feel and performance. When i was looking at options, i knew i wanted to go UST where possible.

current shafts installed last week were because a fellow THP'er had them on here for a good price.

Last 3 seasons I played with shafts from a fitting. It was a limited selection fitting but they performed well.
