There's an image that shows it should be where your arms basically hang down and can grip the club.. most of us amateurs kind of extend out for it unfortunately

My pinkie finger, on my top hand, on the club grip, is about 5" inches from my pants zipper. This might be different for others. This is for all clubs even if I choke up, or down on the the club

That consistent zipper/pinkie finger measurement, plus the length of the club tells me how far to stand from the ball.

After a while, it just becomes automatic. I never pay attention to it anymore.
