How hard to try to swing?

Back when I Played it was no more than 80%. If a reachable 4 on new Course or a dry hard Fairway I'd rip a 4 Iron over 100% for fun. I just felt so good taking a lazy Swing and watch the Ball climb with Spin.

I have sim sessions to prove to myself that if I try to swing hard I lose swing and club speed. I try to be smooth and that's where I gain speed.

I abide by "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast".

I have to play my driver at like 70-80%, otherwise it's just terrible. My problem is that I often forget to do that and ...no surprise it's terrible.

My hybrid - PW can be 100%, driver lower like before and wedges I can max out at like 80% as well.

Over the year of getting back into golf I was swinging pretty hard. Things would go poorly, I would take a ho-hum shot and it would go well. It took a lot of that (and launch monitor data) to show me that feel =/= real.

My ho hum swing is like 3mph slower than going for it (probably because I do not know how to swing fast properly) and not worth the dispersion loss. So now I am doing my best to do as little as possible without decelerating.

I e been having these weak crappy guiding swings lately. I need to get back to swinging hard

I'm putting a pretty good effort into every swing. I have not idea how much, it's not me trying to swing as hard a possible cause I know that I can't do that and stay in any sort of balance, but i'm not dialing back a ton either so 90% ish?

This thread stings 😂

I'm in the 75-80% camp is where I try to live, but unfortunately I'm not smart and end up going at it every single time and bad things happen haha.

I know darn well i swing too hard with every club. Not quite 100% but very close.

For irons I definitely could dial it back instead of trying to force an extra 7-10 yards by swinging out of control

Driver 80%, maybe 90% if i try to get after it... Rarely 100% i find that dispersion gets crazy if i go all out. Mainly because, well... i'm just not that good.
Irons, couldn't even tell you.... depends on the shot... could be anywhere from maybe 40% to 110%

I definitely score better when I slowdown my swing, to at least 80%. Because I play with some big hitters, who swing a lot fast than I like to, I sometimes find myself with a much faster swing than desirable.

Normal swing is probably 85-90%, that leaves some extra when I need it.

when I swing harder good things happen. I've just been so accustomed to swinging poorly I've let up a lot over the years. I only go about 60-70% most times,, when I let it go more I see a lot more fairways with my current shaft/driver combo.

I give full effort. Except for wedges. But I am starting to wonder if it is the wrong idea. Irons I still want to hit hard but that doesn’t mean full rip. I think you can swing 100% but still be dialed back. If that makes sense.
This is what I was going to say as well. Seems like any time I don't swing 100% in my head in terms of thought and feel, the result is never good.

Possibly would say that it comes down more to tempo than swing effort for me. If I swing less than 100%, it can mess with my tempo and lead to some terrible contact.

Since I went to lighter iron shafts, I am swinging with a more balanced tempo than previously, but I still generate a ton of power from my lower body. Same with driver. I'd say about 75% effort on irons and 85% on driver and woods.

Typically if i am on the course I am going at about 90% of max.

If I am at the range hitting driver, I am trying for 100%+ effort, to get used to swinging faster so when I get on course that 90% feels faster.

I can not give anything less than everything.

Realistically I’m going 90%. I have a little bit in the tank to go faster but there’s not a lot.

One of the interesting things that is talking about when you start speed training is people when they try and swing harder they are using more energy to swinging slower. Swinging faster is using the extra force correctly to get more speed.

I tend to overswing at times. But most swings im at like 90%. I feel like I get out of control and bring in a bad slice if I swing harder.

The swing is usually 90% 110% of the time. So yeah it's a normal 100% swing. Anything less is a partial and for wedges or in between gaps swing.

Is there more I can give it, absolutely but I never know what will happen or if I get lucky and everything lines up. The hulk smash guy is a dumb dumb and he irritates me :ROFLMAO:. He never listens that swinging fast is so much easier than hard.:(

Definitely no reason to swing real hard. Nothing ever goes well when I go a full 100% So I tend to throttle back & really only swing about 80 - 85%

The biggest thing that has helped my swing is don't swing hard.

Swinging fast and swinging hard are 2 different things. "Hard" indicates tension to me and tension is the enemy of speed. Tension creates muscles to tense up and restrict motion.

You can swing fast but swing loose. It may feel slow but feeling like swinging slower helps be stay in sync with my motion.

These are all concepts I try to teach to high school kids who play drums but became a real revelation to me when I realized I should also apply it to my golf swing. They are both the same concept of trying to build a repetitive relaxed motion but once you break thought the feeling that you need to be tense to move faster its a game changer.

Just heard Dottie Pepper on the PGA broadcast say that she doesn’t think Bryson has an effective off-speed pitch, that he can’t seem to effectively go less than 100%.

I am probably 80%. I do focus on making sure I get to a full finish. I don’t unleash very often as I tend to get unbalanced and frankly it hurts.
