My list is on page 3... some of the cars were traded in on others because needs changed. Some were sold or given to family members. Some were wrecked. A few were traded in because of high miles and long commuting.
I had a long commute for a few years and really flogged a couple of my vehicles - and it got really, really expensive commuting 200 miles a day in an F-150 (at about 12 mpg) when gas was almost 5 bucks a gallon! 😬 Retirement is good - I've had my F-250 for 10 years this month and it only has 96,000 on it, so averaging less than 10,000 miles a year.

I know it's A Thing, but it blows my mind when I hear about people who live in NYC or other huge cities and have never owned a car or had a driver's license in their life. I mean, I get it, but I've never lived in a big city like that, or any place that having a car wasn't an absolute necessity.

Licensed for 30 years...and forget many of the cars I used to own as quite a few were just $800 beaters to get me where I needed to go.

Highlights include:

1979 Pontiac Bonneville (1st car)
1969 Chevrolet Camaro
1984 Chevrolet Camaro
1996 Ford Mustang GT
2006 Pontiac GTO (which I still own and have owned almost 10 years now)

My grandfather had that exact truck, in banana yellow. i used to love driving it around - cool ride.
Mine was that banana yellow with a black interior, cool mag wheels!!!! Fun truck.

Too many, most of which were new, and looking back at how much money I wasted on them is disappointing.

I’m now of the mind to buy used so that someone else takes that initial equity loss and to drive them until the wheels fall off. Especially if that means no monthly auto payments.

2 cars in 12 years.

22 years, 14 cars + 5 I’ve co owned.

Best (tie) 1998 Volvo C70 coupe in Saffron Orange & wife’s current car 2020 Audi A4

Worst beater Passat with a salvaged title.

My first two were used, everything since that has been new. I'm inclined to start buying pre-owned, for the same reasons you listed. Plus I'm a 4x4 pickup truck guy, and new trucks are getting ridiculously expensive!
