How many cars have you had in how many years?

I’ve been driving for 43 years:

The last three have lasted me 32 years.

I've been licensed for 21 years (woof).

1989 Honda Civic Hatchback
2005 Ford F150 (new)
2009 Ford Fusion (new, mostly driven by my wife)

I plan to drive the current Outback for at least a decade, so I've got 7.5 years left with it.

1990 Chevy S10 Blazer (resting; restored one day???)
2003 Chevy TrailBlazer (first and last new purchase; 310,000 and counting!)

2011 Ford Expedition EL

License for 31 years. I've owned seven cars (the most recent two are co-owned with the wife), only 2 were purchased new.

Blazer Typhoon hybrid?!

I got my license in 82. My first few cars were owned in conjunction with my sister and Dad. I don’t remember the model year for all of them. Some of them seem strange but were necessary because of issues with the previous car:

1970 Pontiac Lemans
Mercury Bobcat
Datsun Pickup
Toyota Corolla
GMC S15 pickup.
1980 Honda Accord (migrating to cars that were exclusively mine around 1988)
1987 VW Jetta GLI (First new car purchase)
Acura Integra (not sure of the year never loved it)
VW Passat (around 92 or 93)
Saab 900 SE
Volvo V70 T5 (started a love affair with wagons this one had a stick in it as did everything since the S15)
Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon
Honda Pilot (short term insanity when I wasn’t driving much and my wife needed a new car)
2007 Audi A3 wagon great car just too small for my family.
2008 BMW 535 xi wagon (one of my favorite cars) I put a 155K miles on it.
2012 Audi A4 Wagon unfortunately my son totaled it fortunately he was fine.
2014 Audi A6 3.0. My current car approaching 100K miles. I probably will drive it for 2-3 more years although it will be longer if social distancing continues.

First got my license at 17 (parents wouldn't let me get it at 16 like everyone else basically because I didn't have a car to drive) which was over 40 years ago. Since then I've personally owned 7 vehicles plus another 4 used by my now ex-wife while we were married. My seven vehicles:
1979 Plymouth Fire Arrow (bought used from my brother)
1985 Chrysler Laser Turbo (my first new purchased car from a dealer)
1987 Nissan Pathfinder (new purchase from dealer)
1995(?) Chevy Tahoe (new purchase from dealer)
2004 Ford Expedition (new purchase from dealer)
2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (new purchase from dealer)
2014 Chevy Traverse (purchased used from my mother last month)

Ex-wife's shared vehicles:
1986 Nissan 200SX
1993 Nissan Altima
2002 Ford F150
2005 Toyota Tacoma (purchased used)

You might be the only other person I've ever encountered who admitted to owning one of these. Did yours have the appropriately but ironically named Silent Shaft engine?

Not sure what it was called back then. It was a 5 speed manual transmission that was notorious for getting stuck in both 5th gear and reverse at the same time. I can't tell you how many times that happened but they finally fixed it after complaining repeatedly...

Wasn't that just a rebadged Mitsubishi?

Probably 50 in 54 years, plus 40+ bikes in 50 years.

Actually, yes. The Plymouth Arrow was the hatchback version of the Mitsubishi Lancer which was also sold under the name Lancer Celeste.

I had the five speed and never had that problem, but it was one of the first engines anywhere to have counterbalancing dummy crankshafts to reduce noise and vibration. Hence "Silent Shaft." Apparently the chains driving my shafts were made of paper clips and broke at 13,000 miles. It sounded like a tin can thrown under a lawnmower. A trailer backed into me in a snowstorm and his ICC bar crunched my hood real good. That part was eight months on national back order.

1990 GMC Sierra 1500- Baby Blue
1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 1500- Charcoal
2002 Chevy Silverado Z71 1500- White
2011 Chevy Silverado Z71 1500- White
2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Backcountry- White

The Sierra was my dad's that I drove for a few months while I was 15 and had my hardship license. For my 16th birthday I got the 99' Silverado. At the end of my freshman year of college my parents traded it in and I got the 2002 Silverado from my dad and he got a 3/4 ton Duramax so we could pull a Gooseneck trailer with a tractor and shredder to mow a couple Corp of Engineer lakes to help pay my college tuition. I drove the 02 about 8 years until an exGF totaled it at 154K. I'd just put in a new transmission too. I got the 2011 Silverado and drove it a couple years when I got the Jeep. I was wholeselling cars at the time and got a great deal on the Jeep. I plan to keep it several more years.

5 vehicles in about 18 years now.

I had no idea a GMC Typhoon existed. Not sure about a hybrid, but I would like to see the old digital dashboard lit up again.

My father was a car dealer growing up, so too many cars to list. We had a different car all the time

However, my favorite was a 1980 something Plymouth Volare. The thing was a tank. I had rusted out the floor on the back seat area, so you couldn't sit there anymore. One year my fraternity brothers thought it would be funny to park my car in the sand beach volleyball pit. I laughed as I just went over, started it up and drove right out of the sand. Sucker could drive through and over anything. :ROFLMAO:

License 23 years

10 cars

1980 Toyota Celtic GT
1988 Escort GT
1990 Honda CRX SI
1994 Honda Civic

I worked with a guy years ago that went through cars like shirts. In 2.5 years he had 6 cars. I asked him how many cars he had during his life and he said he didn’t know. I said more than a 100. His reply, “most definitely”

Guys like that always amaze me. We have a friend who was an early Costco employee (#6 or something outrageous like that.) Retired just a couple years ago, so he has "resources" beyond what I can imagine. He actually has his "person" in California who goes to the auctions and buys cars for him - really nice expensive cars. He keeps them for about six months and then calls CA for something new and interesting. His wife complains that she would just like to have the same car for more than a few months, but she tends to do the same thing with houses. Crazy part is that they always seem to make money when they sell them. It is fun just to watch.

It looks like I rotated cars a lot but in reality I typically had more than one car at a time. In nowhere near as bad add the guy you're talking about. 😆 I did put the wife's cars on there, but with the exception of the 99 Cavalier and the 2016 Rav4, I paid for them. The cavalier and Rav4, her mom bought and gave her. I do get bored with what I'm driving and start looking for something new. I've got 5 years left to pay the house off then I'll be getting another Vette or go fast toy.

Yeah this guy has some coin also. The last couple of cars I have seen him drive were a 911 GT3 and the next one when we ate lunch was a Panamera, and the most recent one is a Bentley Continental GT.

Pretty sure there is 2 that I am missing, possibly 3. I would love to have 1/2 of the money back I have blown on cars, but I enjoyed them all.

2 cars (owned both) over 17 years:

2001 Honda CR-V
2007 Honda Accord (plan on driving this car into the ground before upgrading)

The wife has had more cars in last 5 years (all leases) than I’ve had in 17:

2014 BMW X3
2016 Honda Pilot
2019 Honda Odyssey
