Not just good ones, but actually great holes?

Why are they great? Is it where it is on the course? How it plays or winds with the other holes or is it just a great standalone hole or holes?

I'm not a member of any specific club, but there are 3-4 courses that I play often. Honestly, I wouldn't say that any of them have a particular hole that I feel is outstanding. However, one hole that I enjoy the most is Hole #12 at Trump National Doral - Golden Palm. It's one of my favorites because it forces you to hit your shot precisely-there's no option to lay up. The green is situated on a small hill, so anything short of the green will slide down into the water.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, I dont think there are any great ones to be honest, but they're all quite solid-to-good.

None. None of them have any gimmicks or are special. There are a few fun holes, but none of them are great.

I guess based on membership, home course is Ballyhack and I will say 8

Closest to my home?
Probably TPC Sawgrass
That one is fairly well known

Great for what it is, an $18 for 18 holes dogtrack. But this hole is surprisingly nice and can be an eagle but comes with a lot of risk.

Not a member, but my favorite course in Atlanta (the Fields) has a couple great holes - 1, 5, 7, 10, 11, 16.Screenshot 2025-05-14 at 4.31.51 PM.png

No real holes that WOW me from a layout standpoint at my home course, but certainly do have some favorites. Strategy plays a huge role on a lot of holes where if you're even on the wrong side of the fairway you may not have a good look in on your second shot. The Par 5 11th comes to mind as one of my favorites as it is gettable in two with a good drive by carrying a fairway bunker on the right. If you're not a long hitter, you need to be relatively accurate to land between the two fairway bunkers. Approach goes over a creek that guards the green short, and it is a severely back to front sloping green.

@lambeau what do you think? Any truly great holes at RCC? Which is your favorite?

#13 at Grandview in Sun City West, AZ plays 551-yards from the whites, and the prevailing wind is always against. 95% of the time, it's a 3-shot hole with the tee shot being the least demanding.

When I go for it in 2, it requires a 265-yard carry to clear the creek that crosses the fairway. And then, you have to bomb a 3-wood left or right of the 5 palm trees that are next to the 2nd lake, moving it back toward the green with either a fade or a draw. The palm trees are very tall.

The green is elevated with a huge drop-off on the right, and it's tough to get close to a red or blue pin, even with a wedge. Laying up 95% of the time, you have to hit a 250+-yard 3-wood to get inside 100-yards on your 2nd shot, and everything slopes toward the water. Playing out to the left exposes you to 2 fairway bunkers and a grass bunker (you do NOT want in the small round bunker that's about 60 yards from the green).

I'm not a fan of 3-shot par-5's that take driver out of your hand, but this hole has teeth and a lot of character.

The 17th at my home course is one of the toughest stroke play holes i've ever played. It is a 450yd 90 degree dog leg left, where cutting the corner is almost impossible, off the tee you are facing OB and can hit a 230yd shot or so max. the further right you hit it the longer your approach is (anywhere from 180-210). Once you get to your 2nd, the OB runs the entire right side and is only about 7-8yds from the green to the right side

And 15yds left of the green is red stake.

So you have a 190yd~ approach to a green that runs away from you with OB right and stakes left. Many people play it as a par 5 in the CC

Par 3, hole #3 at my home course is my favourite. Around 150 yards but plays closer to 110 due to a 100 foot drop from the tee to green. Guarded left by a pond, and OB to the right. Beautiful, 360° views from the tee box.

Its a very good course, and fun, and way better than we deserve in our small town, but I agree there aren't any truly great "wow factor" holes.

Interesting that you like #11. I find that hole to be very underwhelming because it's too easy ever since we lost the big tree on the inside right corner. Without it you no longer have to carry the trap off the tee and can still play position golf on shot 2.

My favorite is probably #7. Reachable par 5 but it requires an accurate tee shot with tree trouble and OB on both sides. Second shot has hazard along the whole length on both sides. The green is a bowl which helps those going for it in two, but it's guarded by the creek and has a lot of slope.

That's a fun hole. Made par the one time I played there IMG_4491.jpeg

At the home course, it would be the Par 5 15th hole

The hole layout doesn't do it justice. There is about 60 feet of elevation difference from the tee boxes down to the green in the valley. A well placed and struck drive will allow you to reach in two, if you can hit a draw around the 120 foot tall Sycamore tree that guards the left half of the green. I mostly play it as a 3 shot, but it is tempting risk/reward hole.

None.

I probably like 11 because more often than not I can carry the trap and have about 200 in lol.

7 is a fun one, definitely more challenging. I far too often leave my tee shot too far left in the fairway and then have to lay up because I am blocked by the big tree where the cart path starts.

The course I play regularly frong 9nines great everyone is challenging for different reasons are they great meh maybe not by most standards but enjoyable round and challenging.

I would say there are at least two gimmicky holes that while challenging due to green and need to place it just right I enjoy it and I'd say most people in the area would say similar. Ohioans let me know if you know what course I'm referring to

18. All are PGA 4.25 inches.

We've got quite a few really good ones, but none I would call great.

It's a muni in the middle of Texas, I'm gonna say........
