How much of your handicap index would you give up to play “aspirational” clubs?

It is and always will be 0. If I “grow” out of a club I won’t use it anymore. But that will only be because another performs better. I got a new set of PXG Gen 5 0311XPs that I really like. Ping G430 Max Dr 5,7 woods. So all blacked out killer looking clubs. But I have a Cobra F9 ladies white 7 wood head that is really a 9 wood by loft that refuses to leave my bag. I just hit the damn thing so good. I can hit these moon ball draws with it into longer Par3s and approach shots and it’s so money for me. And that thing sticks out like a sore thumb in my bag. My buddies have nicknamed it “Nina”. 🤷‍♂️🤣

I’d give up an assumed 1-2 strokes. I did it when I went with the Paradym TD and assumed I’d just lose strokes. Then my FIR stats increased and my PAvg went up until I changed my swing and lost 5 yards on the year. It actually helped me drop strokes but I didn’t think that was gonna happen.

None, I have no issue playing anything that's going to help me get to a lower score.

I play my blades all the time, no difference on good back days. On bad back days the mid and long irons may say my old butt is swinging too slowly to launch properly. But thats why they make hybrids and lofted fairways.

I'll play whatever I want regardless of score.

None

I'm also part of the none crowd. I can't think of any aspirational clubs for me and playing what other people think are aspirational clubs doesn't hold any appeal at all.

Zero. I don’t think pure blades look much better than my ZX7 MK ii’s, certainly not enough to make a change to something less forgiving.

Man, I’m at the point where I’m going more forgiving vs inspiration clubs.

Well, if you look at my typical scores and handicap guess, there's nothing for me to sacrifice for better clubs. And I'll play them anyway. I just want clubs that I can consistently hit.

Zero.

If I had the resources I would add a set of blades or near blades. I love the idea of comparing how I play with different category clubs. Ping blueprint t/s, Mizuno Pro 241, JPX923 Tour… The times I have hit blades on the sim, I really liked them. The feel and consistency is addictive. Main thing is that I would have to recalibrate with distances. How it would impact my game is hard to tell.

I play clubs that are best to me. Simple as that. If a clubs help me play better it’s in the bag.

My irons and wedges are clubs that fit @Scooby45 definition of aspirational but they work best for me. Ironically then I go full old guy golfer with a 5 hybrid, 7 wood and 4 wood. It all gives me the yardage gapping, launch, peak height and spin

My bag is built based on performance first, looks, sound and feel next.

Try lots of stuff and play what you like and works best for you.

I'm going with none right now. I need every stroke saved that I can as a higher handicapper at the moment - albeit that means I have relatively less to lose in terms of kudos or competitive results.

I am running very much game improvement wedges because that was a significant weakness in my game when I last played, but I have managed to pick up some less forgiving / more controllable wedges in a auction (like a traditional one rather than eBay) for a steal which I'm trying out on the range. They are certainly aspirational for me at the moment but if I'm getting good results, and I'm limited by my current gamers, and I feel like I could use them and not add to my score then they - like anything else might make it into the bag.

Certainly no need for me to use anything because of looks, either for me or who I'm playing with.

None. It’s simply not worth it. Play the clubs best to enable success.

None. If a club or set of clubs drops my HC by a stroke, I am gaming them. I have not seen an iron set, driver, or other club that has looked so incredible that I had to play it even with poor numbers compared to other options.

I would personally rather play better golf than have super sexy looking clubs if they didn't fit me.

I care a lot more about my game than how my bag looks in the parking lot.

I know OP's question is relative

But as a mid to high capper, my "aspirational" club would be the Taylormade P790 or the Titleist T200. They look really good.

I can probably bag it without too much damage to my handicap. But I'm just not sure.

I was fitted last year for my PXGs, but the next time I'm thinking of visit something like a GolfTec and expand really broaden my horizons.

Nothing really. Generally I am looking for clubs that help me shoot the lowest scores. Nothing is sexier than breaking par.

I just play what I want to anyway 🤷

I agree here. I’m going to play whatever gives me confidence. Golf is mental. Whatever gives me confidence and I’m fit into I’m going to play.

I don't think about my clubs.. Based on my ability it would be a deal with the devil. I don't care about my handicap. I care about hitting good shots going in the direction I intended.

How much of your handicap index are you willing to give up to play that club or clubs?
I wouldn't be willing to give up any of my HI. I'm more scoring oriented than equipment oriented.
