I put 7. Why modesty. 😂

As an 18 index, I’m a volume punch out player. Given that my misses are a larger number. But my touch on the good ones is great.

I can hold my own. Normally a 1/2 to 3/4 swing, stay stable and pick the line well. Sometimes I will also hook it as needed, but slicing it is not in my wheelhouse.

I’ve lived under trees and behind obstacles for years and this shot is second nature for me now! It’s like channeling my inner ride a bike!

I put myself down for a 4. I can get it out of a bad situation most of the time, but it's not going to be on any top 10s.

Pretty bad at hitting it under tree branches. Usually I'll have an idea of going under a branch and just straight nail it dead center. Have trouble keeping the ball low enough with speed.

I’m decent at it and can keep the ball low when needed. I can also hit a cut as a punch out. For now my go to club is a 3HL.

Middling I can’t seem to keep them low enough half the time.

I used to be really good at them, but that skill has eroded over the years, as have a lot of my other golf skills. Plus, having replaced all my long irons with hybrids which are designed to help you get the ball in the air, they're really not suited to punch shots. But I heard, or read, an interesting idea somewhere. If you have some old long irons laying around, take a 2 or 3 iron, cut it down to 6 iron length, regrip it and use it as your punch out club. As I type this I can see an old 2 iron from set of Ping Eye 2 iron copies a local club builder made for me a long time ago. Since I almost never hit my 3 wood any more, I'm seriously considering this.

I'm giving myself an 8. I've had a lot of practice!

10/10

I see windows where others pee their pants. 😁

You have an issue keeping a ball flight low. I get it for you. De-loft and half swing!

6.

If I can play it straight or R2L, 8. If not, or I have to keep it extremely low, 4. So, 6.

6 out of 10. Passable in a pinch.

I chose a “6”. It’s been better, but as long as I have room for a partial backswing, contact and direction are usually adequate.

I'd say 5-6. Many times my punch outs hit a limb or square tree dead on!

I don't try flight shots down very often so would say that's not a good part of my game

Good enough that I got a special headcover for it. 5H has a lot of sneaky little shots in it, sadly I have plenty of experience. 🤣

I generally punch out with a 6 iron, I can put it back in the stance and keep it low or get it up off the ground for a long fast runner

I use the 6 iron 90% of the time, that way i can adjust with just 1 club....

therefore i put a 9

I selected 8.

I predicted that 8 would be the overwhelming number of selections.

Punch out and guess game both strong.

I gave myself a 7 - I am good with a controlled low trajectory shot to advance the ball.

What I can’t do is a big bender. I have a better chance with a fade. If I need a tumbling draw there is a fair chance it could turn into a disaster. I usually bail out and play it safe in those situations.

I'm going to say a 7.
I do a lot of it, and have gotten very good with the 5-iron punch shot under trees and branches to advance the ball.

I’m a solid 7, I thought an 8 before I punch shot something into a branch just in front of me and it popped right back at me, embarrassing!!!

Specifically out of/under trees is a strength but flighting the ball under the wind could be better. Gave myself a 6.

I give myself a 6. Have to be able to geto ut of the trees a lot here, so get a lot of practice...just cant bend it on demand.

I give myself a 6. I can usually get it out of trouble and can move it R to L a bit, but I sometimes overcook it on distance and end up too far the other direction. It's harder for me to move it L to R, and I'm not willing to take on small windows - I'll take the safe shot and just get it back in play.
