Hunter Mahan vs Quail Hollow

I mean it’s not that it’s not a cool course. It’s just not really a course you necessarily want to see a major on. I know it’s probably crushing for QH who really seems to have a high opinion of themselves but it’s a cool course for tour golf. But not major.

That was cold by the President of QH haha.

Kind of tired of Torrey Pines . Love Pebble Beach. That might be the exception to my "rule". I thought about mentioning it in my post but didnt
Also worth saying that Pebble plays vastly different in the US Open week compared to the Pro Am Week.

In the case of Quail, it’s literally one week later compared to when we normally see it.

Welcome to the club. I’m not a fan of regular tour courses being set up for majors. It’s boring to me. Likewise when they used Bethpage Black for part of the FedEx playoffs.

"I guess I would say Quail Hollow is like a Kardashian," Mahan said. "It's very modern, beautiful and well-kept. But it lacks a soul or character."

Quail Hollow President than responded.
"Tell me who that is? I don't know the last time he was there."
Woooooooooowwwwwwwwwww 🤣🤣🤣

Mahan used the opportunity to get his name in the headlines by trying to be funny and edgy to benefit himself and Quail Hollow’s President then proceeds to stick said foot in said mouth. Mahan did what he set out to do and that is increase his name recognition and Quail obliged. Could have just banned him permanently from the grounds and moved on as it wouldn’t have mattered anyway but now they get to be dragged through the mud by those who are now fake offended. Never played there but have seen photos and it looks magnificent but now it’ll be one of those things where it’s cool to **** on and pile on.

Green Mile is their thing.

It's kind of representative of Charlotte. Looks cool, new, shiny, but not a lot of substance.
Don't talk about Miami like that

Torrey isn't that great a course truthfully
Its a good course because of the history. Personally, from a visual standpoint, having played both the North and South courses, I liked the North course better than the South.

Can't disagree with Mahan.

But I thought the President's response was hilarious. Maybe a bit unbecoming for his position but someone threw down on the course and he stepped up and countered.

Agreed. It was great to play the South to say I did it, but I liked the North a bit more.

Who is Johnny Harris?

The south photographs well but a lot of the views from the course are pretty basic. #3 is nice , and the holes on the back around the fjord are nice.

But overall I don't think it's a bucket list course or anything.

I agree with the topic of the thread though that a lot of courses on tour lack personality, often in exchange for length.

So not a fan of Torrey Pines or Pebble?
I'm a fan of Pebble, but I'd like to see other courses, CHAMBERS BAY, for example, played for majors. Torrey Pines is a bit boring on TV. Maybe awesome IRL?

I forgot Hunter Mahan existed. Way to chirp from the valley of irrelevance.

I need to play there to assess Hunter's statement. Anyone here want to get me on? It's for science.

We need more of this in golf. Less "coach-speak"

I went to the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow in 2022. It is a beautiful course, and the fairways were literally better than most courses greens.
It was fun to watch and a good experience, but in all honesty the course is just a long slog. It could play just as hard without the length, four par fours over 500 yards is gross

I saw his quote a few days ago and laughed. The owner of qual hallow is an admitted Augusta fan and wanted to build an Augusta like course. All the architecture guys hate this course. I don’t think it is that bad and I many times think the architecture group just wants one kind of course and anything else is dumb. But Hunters quote is an all timer.

Welcome to golf course design in the current world. LOL

I don't know anyone who wear white suits but I do work in baking
Perhaps I am showing my age. A mens clothing sales guy at Nordstrom told me they sell a crazy number of dress shirts because of the banking community. That was a few years ago.

Yeah but white is not too common. Also mostly guys now wear Peter Millar, stitch, or some other high end polo. Our traders all wear Peter Millar head to toe with some high end watch daily.

The South is just long…….and mean

Nothing against Quail per se but I dont like when they play majors on courses that have annual tour stops. Rather see different courses that the pros arent as familiar with
The only course I give a pass is Pebble Beach. The reason is it’s so different each tournament and usually is a pro am
