I don't play near as much as I used to so I'll definitely take it in some ways. And at a certain distance I'll kind of take any I can get. A 200 yard approach doesn't get closer based on the club. It's still 200 yards. Dispersion might though.

Certain types of "forgiveness" definitely don't show up for me though, like you said. There's some designs that work for me better than others based on my swing characteristics.

Which is why I think I've made up my mind. @Hawk knows I'm a sucker for a good cut away shape to a toe even though he doesn't enjoy it. And I like a strong set progression to help at those longer distances but still be smaller in the short end...

I suppose that is true, that's where we are very different. 190 carry for me is a 5 iron.

And yardage doesn't care what you hit it with

So that is a fair point

Give us the reveal of 1 and 2 you monster!

Give us the reveal of 1 and 2 you monster!
1 - Mizuno Pro S-3

I just don't play enough for these. They're gorgeous, feel amazing, and numbers are right where I want with them... but golf is more fickle than a hitting bay.

2 - JPX925 Forged

I love these clubs. They're freaking awesome. And I love a good all black bag. The thing that's deterring me is what most people will love about them. The slightly longer blade, speed across the face, and the tri cut sole. Some of it just doesn't fit what I'm trying to do as well as the last one.

3 - Mizuno Pro 245

I've raved about these since they came out. The set progression is one of a kind and completely awesome. That and the shaping work really well for me. They feel great, and they launch well. I don't hit the ball that high despite some speed. So it all just adds up to a better fit, and I've hit them 2 weak before and liked it.

I was going #1 until you made the unusual comment you were chasing distance. I also guessed the S-3 as #1 but thought you would end up in a combo set of 243/245’s.

Oh I'm not chasing distance. Just more forgiveness than those S-3. It's hard to uncouple forgiveness and distance usually though, or avoid a lot of combo'ing to do it. I think the 245 offer a great overall combination of things.

Ha. Ha ….I was just pulling your chain a bit and I can certainly relate. Enjoy the new sticks.

Im saying iron 2 mainly because of the low standard deviation across the board

2 or 3.

I would compare 2 or 3 8 iron with 1’s 7 iron.

See the dispersion differences if any and note if the 8 iron is easier to hit at respective length.

A whole-club distance upgrade could mentally be helpful. Shorter clubs are easier to hit for most people.

I see why you went with 3.

The long/short dispersion on the more forgiving clubs is pretty eye opening as the internet cries about hot spots.

What if #1 is a significantly more challenging iron than the other two?
Given when I’ve seen you play in the past, I can only assume “significantly more challenging” means it’s some sort of tea spoon attached to a hosel?

Iron 1. For faster and firmer greens, the higher spin is a benefit and will lead to closer average proximity with it’s more predictable distance control. If I always played a soggy course with slower greens, I might consider the others.

It wouldn’t be number 2. You said yourself that you were getting “stuck”

I would compare 2 or 3 8 iron with 1’s 7 iron.
Good point. I have 2 sets of irons and 1 has a 34° 7i and the other has a 34° 8i. The 7i is a couple yards longer on good swings because of the shaft being a little longer and 10g lighter. The 7 is less forgiving too so the 8 is more consistent.

#3 had your tightest dispersion by far. I dont like the spin on #3 at all but I would take that dispersion circle and weaken the lofts

heart wants to say #1 bc Im guessing thats a blade but I would pick #3 followed extremely closely by #1

Hey what happened here?

Alright. Tonight's the night. Decisions must be made.

Both 7 irons. 4 degree difference in loft. Different tech and construction. Started cold and with #1 in hand. 5 shots, 5 shots, 5 shots 5 shots. No redos. I did have to delete on #1 because of a weird misread.

Honestly tried to play the first 4 of each pretty straight. Kept getting a little stuck with #2 though. Ended those sets with a try at a cut. Next 5 tried to bounce around a little bit to look at some numbers but all shots and misses I'd have to play at some point.

WHICH IRON YOU CHOOSING???

Are you sure iron 1 isn't the 8 iron in iron 2's set?

Mizuno Pro 245. 2 weak, 1 flat.

I'm thinking 5-PW. 4 Fli-Hi weak. T1 50, 54, 60.
Sounds like my new bag-less the Fli-Hi and distance.

#1 better spin rate and launch angle.
