Iron Striking Last Round?

Iron play was pretty good. As an example...had 3 par 3's (8I, PW, 7I) and went -1 on them. I swear my birdie was a 7I off the toe but my Elyte X happened to correct that to 12 ft of the stick.

Last round I played, I set a new personal best with 13 GIR.

It helped that I hit 9/14 fairways, but to be honest - the previous round, I hit 10 GIR, 5 others on the fringe - and only hit 1 fairway.

So the irons have been superb lately, to say the least...now I just need to get a couple more birdie putts to drop.

Irons were just OK last round, felt like I was swinging slow for some reason and I saw it in the distances I was getting. Just couldn't shake that funk. Today at the range was much more fluid, but really I need to practice more patience in my swing.

My iron play was decent to above average where it has been for me. That isn't saying much since irons are the weakest part of my game.

The actual irons themselves are performing as I expected and better in some spots. The spin and forgiveness I am seeing away from center is rewarding me with results to help save the hole and minimize damage when a bad strike occurs.

Last round the irons were the only thing that saved me. I actually made a par on every par 3. Which rarely happens. If only I could keep the ball in play off the tee on all the other holes. Oh & also be able to putt

It was actually one of the better aspects of my game today, which is a bit unusual for me.

I'm playing the Callaway Ai Smoke HL irons and they're great performers - the irons perform a lot better than the loose wingnut attached to the grip end.

Hit a lot more greens and kept the ball in play. Really am starting to get dialed in once I have figured out how to manage joint pain.

Thinned so many times. Also faded which I never do with irons.
But I did have the best iron shot of the year: 191 from the fairway bunker. Small lip in front, stripped it to about 15 feet.

One day was better than the other. Thank goodness for forgiveness on the Elyte irons or I would have been in trouble.

Since you asked, I threw some absolute darts yesterday. Shots were high, online and very near the expected distance. Seven approach/tee shots that, while in the air, we thought they had a chance to go in. Had to hit three punches, each went through the desired gap and stayed low to avoid branches. 7-PW all landed with no release and either side or backwards spin. Playing partner thought I hit the pin or flag on three separate shots.

Humble brag alert...

18 holes from this past weekend (2 nine hole rounds)

That is for approach shots 50-175 yards, not necessarily GIR. Still, I thought it was pretty good iron play until I realized I'm still losing strokes to a 20 cap probably due to how bad the misses were.

My GIR percentage for those 18 holes was 38.5% which I feel really good about.

6 gir which is probably a little low for a +11 round. I felt like I hit my irons really well, with maybe a few loose shots, but w only 6gir, I guess it wasn’t as good as I thought. As a 9.6, I’ve averaged 7 gir over the last 5 rounds. I think that’s at least 1 lower than it should be.
Irons themself are not the problem, it’s the guy swinging the irons. I’m really confident w 9 iron and wedges. 7&8 iron are decent at times. Anything longer and my confidence goes down.

Directionally a bit off. Good contact was better than the “poor” norm. Had some memorably good shots with irons.

The irons themselves preformed well. Distance consistency given my swing challenges is quite evident.

Irons have always been my strong suit but this year my iron swing is awful. I’m flipping it, can feel it, can’t stop it. I went to a grass range last Friday so let’s hope that fixes it. Hitting off of mats is no help

ZX5 MKIIs performed very, very well. On a rolling course where level lies are few and far between. My set AW is still under suspicion, and although i have no miss i can point at as some spec needing tweaking, i am going to put a Recoil 90 in a 50⁰ S23 I have on the rack and see how it works out.
The fact that week after week I keep winning a closest to on a 9 hole league speaks volumes about how these irons and i get along.

Average to slightly below average. Swing rust is more prevalent in irons than woods. Short irons and wedges were ok. Long to mid irons need some work.

My irons (Ai300/Ai200) and my iron striking have been the best part of my game the last couple weeks. I still occasionally lose one left, but I'm hitting my numbers most of the time and that's a pretty good feeling knowing each club is going to do what I think it'll do.

My iron striking has been decent. In my last round it was okay, not my best this year. They performed okay, I struggled with some control on some shots from a distance perspective but could have been some adrenaline flowing or things like that...it's consistently been 3rd place in strokes gained (behind putting and short game) but I think that speaks more to the positives in those areas compared to negatives in my irons

Garbage.

Could not hit the Elyte X rental set confidently to save my life.

Iron striking slid a bit this weekend and my scores suffered for it. When I put a good swing on it, my irons are spectacular and I did manage to hit a few great shots so it's definitely the indian.

Hit the G25’s very well. Unfortunately, my driver cost me six strokes on the front (2-OB and an unplayable lie). I also had four putts lip out. It’s hard to put it all together at the same time.

My last 9 hole round was the final match in our member/guest and it was arguably the best iron striking round I’ve ever had. Swing felt great, flight windows were excellent.

I was pin high on both par 3s (6 iron 165 into the wind to about 17’ and 8 iron 158 to 2’)

On approaches, numbers were exactly what I was expecting. Only had one wedge shot that I wish I could have back and the ball was way above my feet and just didn’t catch it clean.

It was a tournament round, my iron play was very good, i had some very poor short game shots that cost me a few strokes which at that level wasn't good. I cried myself to sleep after a few vokda/7's......and now i am fine

I just got done with a round, my lowest in quite a while, mostly because my Ai200s were the star of the show. My swing was decent and the little errors with it were being corrected by the irons. I hit 7 GIR, including every par 3 where I swung an iron, which is way more than average this season, and that doesnt account for a couple darts after needing very long up and downs do to tree issues.

Super inconsistent but when I hit them well, they were great. Great sound and feel. Nice and high, but not as high as I was expecting (maybe unrealistic expectations based on my swing)
