Hello all! (If you are looking for the question skip to paragraph three)

We have a great golf culture at work and I regularly play with my coworkers. I also play as a single often and get paired up with random people. I'd say that 98% of the time there is money on the game. Not only with friends but also with random people I get paired up with. It's never my idea, I simply book a hot deal from golf now for one person and get paired up with a threesome that is playing skins.

I have never been a gambler, it just doesn't excite me, but if the group wants to play $1 skins without carryovers, or $5 per 9 considering handicap I'm fine with it because it only amounts to a few bucks. Last year I realized that I was making bets like this a couple times a week on average and started tracking it. At this point, I currently stand up $1 for the last 9 months so I continue to go with it because it makes everyone happy and I'm not losing anything really.

My real question is this. Do you gamble on nearly every golf game? Or is this more of a San Diego thing? Have you ever gambled with random players? (I'm not talking about big money, just a couple bucks)

Usually play in a money game once a week. Play 4 - 5 times a week. Can do with it or without it. Won't play for money if I think there are unscrupulous handicaps involved which I know there are in the Friday game at my course.

I've never really searched it out but I've found myself playing in groups that enjoy a little action. I'm always down for a skins game or a Nassau.

Never gambled with a stranger, but all my buddies are degenerates, so we can't compete in anything without gambling (e.g., the night of our golf tourney we were betting $5 a letter playing horse in his basement on his kids' fischer price hoop). We always play skins and usually work in side bets for front 9, back 9, and 18.

gambling is illegal at bushwood, sir, and i never slice

It's not at all a regular thing for me but I'm not opposed to it.

I've never gambled with a random stranger but I've gambled many times during organized first-meets.

In my regular group, a few of us usually determine who’s getting strokes, match up accordingly and do match play for $5 a round. The group as a whole does skins, greenies and net low (1st through 3rd). Buy in is $20 and I’ve had days walking away with over $60, which is always fun. But if I’m playing with strangers I don’t do any money games.

We usually play for a cheap lunch and a beer. It's more of a how is your week going kind of thing.

Not for me. When I play with my dad (usually one or two rounds a year), we do match play for lunch at the turn and then a drink at the end of the round.

I don’t gamble on my skill as a rule. Maybe I’ll play for a drink at the end of the round, that’s about the extent of it.

$1 skins or wolf. I like a little action. I usually play to my handicap though.

Yes, I like to gamble.

Usually only with regular playing partners - rarely with randos

Having a little something on the game makes it fun. We usually play for a couple bucks a hole so it doesn’t get too expensive

Never have with strangers, the local crew we do a 6/6/6 team game or skins and with both we use greenies. It makes those 5 ft putts more fun.

When I play with my regular group we almost always play for something. We'll do a few different games like 6/6/6, Wolf and a couple others. It's not huge money and I think the most I've won or lost in a day is $25-40. I've never tracked my winnings or losses throughout a season though, I need to do that this year.

Since you asked - Gambling in anything is non-existent in whatever it is I find myself doing. I have seen it create hard feelings among those who lose along with accusations of sandbagging, cheating, etc. I won't even buy a lottery ticket or go to a casino.

Usually $20 buy-in-game. Half the pot to low individual sores, half the pot to skins.

Depends on the group and course, but yeah, it's not uncommon that about 50% of my rounds include some gambling.

I still don’t have a true regular group so I’d have to say it’s not.

Joining the Stillwater CC may hopefully change that though haha

I have groups that I always gamble with on the course and have for 25+ years. I don’t gamble with THPrs or at THP events.

Yes, I keep a wad of cash in my golf bag

Yes always scratch,no handicaps involved luckily I have a good regular group to play with. All of us are of similar skill level so handicaps never get brought up. I typically don't gamble with players I don't know. Have from time to time, but it is not my favorite thing to do.

Have you ever had a regular group?

We always play for who’s buying dinner in my group and sometimes cheap skins. I have only played for skins with strangers, but a wager or two is always fun as long as it is modest and doesn’t go down a bad rabbit hole taking away the fun of the day.
