Kinetixx HYPERSONIC Driver Shaft

Remind me, do you distance track your shots on course?
Yes, but I made the mistake of not changing my tag when I switched sensors from previous shaft to the hypersonic. Corrected that now. I could probably go back and guess which rounds were played with it but all the numbers fall under the old shaft 😞

Okay so..

let me start by saying the Hypersonic D40 and my recent gamer shaft are incredibly different. The Hypersonic is lighter, loads more and differently, and is far more flexible. My other one feels like a beast in comparison, and boy does jump out if you go back and forth. This one is far more friendly in the feels.

I posted the first shot when I took it on the maiden voyage, and in terms of numbers it was one of the better ones. I didn't have trouble timing it really, but I was getting a pretty dramatic flight out of it. The gist of it is that if I swing the swing and aim I have been recently, it delivers more dynamic loft, and moves my strike down the face. So I was really spinning it like I've never quite seen before as a low spin guy. Overall much more spin, more peak height, and a little more left. Felt close though and that's why the head swap to get a better feel for the strike today. And it confirmed what I had seen in the air and in some of the monitor numbers on course. Hadn't cost me much in terms of strokes I don't think, and like I said it felt like I could time it pretty well so I was tired but determined this afternoon to get on the machine and get it more sorted out for me. Not that I've ever been great with a driver indoors, but I'll work on that.

Before I get into those numbers, lemme take a quick detour on one part of them. I saw this on course, and again this afternoon in the early going. -I swing it slower- Naturally, with my usual swing. Which I found really interesting, because I talk about how head aerodynamics are mentioned a lot in club releases and I never really see that in my numbers, but I do see speed differences with shafts. And this feels like one I would be swinging faster. Being the non-lumber type loading feel. So the fact that I wasn't was really interesting to me and would lead to a very detailed conversation about the technology in and profile of the shaft, and how we each recruit speed and use our strength differently in our golf swings. Partly even because of what we play. And how I use mine normally wasn't able to be realized quite the same with the different load feel. At first!

So things started a little off in warmup, and I had played earlier in the day, but they picked up as I had a chance to get more familiar with it in a non-course setting.

And I can put it out there a bit now.

That's obviously fun in a monitor sense and I do think that one would have been pretty legit on course too, but let's look at the overall from the session.

Didn't want to overdo anything and the wife and neighbor were a great help with spreading it all out over a good amount of time.

So I started with the same as on course basically. Some higher ones with more spin and one left I think. New setup and my alignment was a bit off so basically most of the right side stuff is almost all fairways (or really close, maybe 2 off), and the two on the left would have been potential trouble.

But I started to get a much better feel for the release and getting my strike where I want it. And in the end it was feeling really good. Pretty confident. And swing speed had picked up some!

So that was a lot of fun to see some of the flexibility come to life and be applied to the shot. Like I said I threw it right into the fire and it didn't really hurt me out there despite being really foreign to me, so I'm pretty excited to see where I can take it from here.

This sounds like a very interesting conversation.

Better one for the swing forum.

I do want to get some more time in with it and see if I can spot anything in video that I'm doing differently to take advantage of this one though.

Especially because I have my label turned sideways! Back towards anyone behind me or the camera. Call it a twist on my #StickersFor @Canadan because he loves all that. 😁

So, been thinking about a comment I made earlier, about high end shafts and slower swing speeds. I have self fit for driver shafts over the last 2+ years as a result of being told, in no uncertain terms that high end shafts would not give me anything significant. Not to name names, but this happened at Club Champion in 2021 and again (TWICE) at paid fittings - which were not much different at PGA Tour Super store. And I forgot, I had another paid fitting here in Charleston that was focused on results - but we again used only non-upcharge shafts.

The point being, be educated and don't just take their word for it. Now that said, a lot fitters may not have the best fit for the slower swingers - that would entail (might entail) a whole new wall of shafts.

I can tell you as a mid to high 80s and I sort of feel (results based - not gosh who really knows based) like I crack the 90 a bit as well, that both the Newton and the Kinetixx shafts have helped. - Yea, one round with the Hypersonic - but when you know, you know, and the distance and dispersion were both superb - on a very wet slow course. There will be more testing, and I will put the Rapsodo to work - I am going to try it at the range as well, because indoor/garage swing is just not the same.

Anyway, if you are getting fit and want to demo more shafts, don't let the fitter direct you into something you may not be happy with, at least ask and discuss other options.

I can appreciate what you have stated. I have always self fit into stock offerings. I know very little about shafts. I have never really had a true fitting other than for the Morgan Cup where I tested the three stock shafts from Cobra for the Aerojet.

And I'm squarely with you as far as swing speed.

I can at least get club/ball speed and launch with the rapsodo at some point.

Might be worth getting on the sky track at the club for some spin numbers too.
Just make your way up here.

Not there yet but I wonder if this might turn into a short driver project to see if that helps whatever timing.

At the conclusion of our 8 weeks of testing, I say have at it.

Dusted off the monitor yesterday, finally not a sauna in the garage, the DS LS set heavy forward at standard 9.0 with the D40 hypersonic, average of 10 shots:

162 ball, 12.7 launch, 2328 RPM, 35Y peak.

That will hunt.

I have rounds scheduled Wednesday (Durango), Friday (Denver), and Sunday (Air Force Academy). Will have more feedback throughout the week :)

For the Sunday round, @Dougie and @F.N.G will get a chance to take a few swings and give some thoughts also!

For the Friday Round, the Golftec Experience fellas will likely get a chance to swing it also.

I'm playing both weekend days. I will have some detailed on course observations then. I'm looking forward to it/

Headed to the course in just a bit for more work with this one, it’s been pretty fun revisiting it in a different head than what I reviewed it in.

Still feels really solid and easy to set at the top and get back to center at the bottom. Everything wants to go high and left though, especially when I try to step on it. Even with a draw bias shape I had a hard time keeping either ball under 4000 spin.

Don’t really have prior baseline numbers besides on course drive locations, but i don’t think it was that.

Even after turning down to 8* the Only drives I saw drop into the 2000s was with a zstarxv I threw in there at the end. So maybe some more ball exploration is needed.

More to follow when I’m home, but for now 11/13 fairways, including 2 awful shots that went farther than they shiuld have, and 6 drives that went as far or farther than any I’ve hit in this course in a long time. Dial in the tee height then let it rip. Today was Wilson Staff Model.

Ok, have had some time to think. I can't determine actual yardage but there are 3 or 4 holes played today, where I was in considerably new areas of the fairway - in a good way. I think around 8-10-15 yard differences - and, for what it's worth, the ground is still not dry-dry, but better than rainy Sunday was. On 3 holes I either had a subtle uphill slightly grade the entire way - which I never paid close attention to (in the past), or on hole a strongish wind straight into my face. Each of these were included in the 3-4 new locations. So, distance? It's equal to or improved on.

Forgiveness - not sure how much is the shaft vs the club head, but I had 2 or 3 awful drives - in terms of where struck on the face (2 on the heel side, one a 'pop up' sort of). Each of these were in the fairway - to my amazement and distance, while shorter was not penal.

Ball Flight - I toyed with tee heights a lot last year, this year I have kept them close to about 1/4" past the first knuckle of the pointer fingertip (so roughly inch and a quarter from the earth). This height and a slightly better set up has be hitting up slightly making contact on the upper part of the club face, but I don't hit a high drive. My driver is 10.5 but I have dialed down 1 degree to 9.5 - This set up works for me and I don't find the new shaft to be extremely high or low at this very early stage. I sort of think the ball is going higher but not in the extreme, still a very let's say medium height ball flight, with the occasional got ya, really high ball - but distance does not seem to suffer (if at all certainly not much).

Feel - This is tougher, and again, only 26 whacks with the new shaft - so can't say much, but what I can say is it feels firmer than the Newton shaft did, I feel like I cannot over swing, that the swing can be as full/fast as I can muster without fear of a dead pull or a massive slice. It feels good, I know where the club is in my swing I think I feel it load/unload - all of it. No negatives. The Newton, also a decent shaft for me, I know I could I overcook it and there would be penalty for doing so.

Heading out again Thursday and Saturday - both weather permitting, so stay tuned.

Almost pin high on #1 with a pretty cold 330y up the hill, and an up and down birdie to start.

I'll take that. 😁

That is a really good pic of that shaft!

Good start and put a few out there but it was mostly a day of misses. Just couldn't get off the bottom of the face. Thought I had it after the Sunday session, but it's just a different release than I'm used to.

The increased height is cool, and definitely helped me clear some trees on one I pushed. And I can feel the difference between it and some others with similar weight and kick. In fact there's one it makes me think of in a way and I want to do a comparison at some point. I have a feeling how it will go and it could be a fun comp.

Another damn good day on the course with this one.

What I like is the same things I did in the original THP review I wrote (link in first post of thread, I’m not ashamed to plug that), and it’s that it just keeps on keeping on not matter what I throw at it.

Turn hard as hell? Still there.

Smooth flighted fairway finder? There.

High fade? There.

Flat draw? There.

It’s there.

heading out again tomorrow walking my 4th consecutive round playing roughly every 2 1/2 days. Overall handicap has gone down, wider if there’s a correlation hahaha.

As James said, and while I’m certainly not sure yet, i feel as if i can swing out of my shoes and still have a playable tee shot, guess I’ll find out tomorrow, as always I’ll report my results.

Rain day so we're going to have a little Hypersonic party inside. See if I can figure some more out, and get it in some other people's hands and let them have some fun with it.
