L.A.B. Golf DF3 Putter

Our practice green is right by the first tee so most people putt right before teeing off. I’ve started practicing my putting before I go to the range to warm up as there have been several times when I got to the practice green and didn’t get a chance to hit putts because others want to try it out and then it is time for us to go off. I’m happy to let anyone try it out but I still want 10 - 15 mins to putt before a round. So far, 3 others that tried mine bought one for themselves.

Same at my course..............the putting green is the gathering spot (social area) next to the first tee.

Has anyone putted with both the stock shafts and TPT and/or Accra?

I know I've seen some speculation on how it should differ in feel...but curious if anyone has held and putted with both

**Sorry if this was said, I'll take the skimmer tag for that one :ROFLMAO:

I had the stock shaft in my DF2.1 and the TPT in my DF3. I’d be lying if I told you I noticed a significant difference in feel between the two putters. I am putting better with the DF3, but I was also fit for that one. I did think that both putters felt great though.

I have, but only in a store with a stock steel shaft. It wasn’t worlds of difference to me. I thought that the Accra felt just ever so slightly softer. However, the difference was minimal enough that I wondered if it was in my head. I didn’t see any difference in hitting my lines.

Appreciate the great feedback from both of you!

Yes. In fact I spent about 1.5 hours comparing the two yesterday in PGA SS. Here's my conclusion...after reading how everyone felt about the two all over the internet.

1. The Accra - It feels a bit softer, more spongy, but also is a bit more muted.
2. Stock Steel - Still feels rather soft, but it has a tiny but more audible noise in the form of a click, but nothing crazy. I'd still describe it as soft and nothing compared to a milled putter feel. There is a tiny bit more vibration.

They are VERY close to me. I did not feel massive differences, but there are subtle differences between the two. Ultimately, I wanted to like the Accra cause it just looks more premium, but I found the stock one to work better for me. I just could feel it better with a little more noise and vibration through the shaft which is contrary to what most think. Most people say the Accra is worth the upgrade.

I saw a comparison online that said that the Accra shaft felt like a normal putter with an insert, and the TPT shaft felt like a normal putter with a milled face.

Comparing the Accra shaft to my old StrokeLab shaft in my Odyssey 7, the Accra is much more stiff with very little flex.

A friend of mine has the TPT shaft in his, but I haven't played with him recently to be able to compare the 2.

When I bought the DF3, I wanted a shaft that was true to spec and perfectly round - the TPT. The TPT shaft is machine made, and from what I've heard, it costs 4X more to make than other graphite shafts. Being perfectly round, it could make a difference on long putts and I have a lot of those... For full disclosure, I am a TPT homer. Have been playing them since 2017.

FWIW, I went out to the putting green after reading the post above, I took my Artisan Anser Style with medium milling and steel shaft against the DF3 with TPT shaft -- the feel and sound are very close to each other - the milled steel Artisan is slightly, slightly softer with contact in the sweet spot. I could putt with either based on feel. I am more consistent hitting the sweet spot with the DF3. I mean, lie balancing is an advantage.

Mine arrived today so had 8 holes with it.Really impressed.
Its going to take a little getting used too but first hole a nice 5 footer straight in which was followed with a birdie 15 footer on the 2nd hole.
anything 6 foot or less it seems automatic.Cannot wait for the 2 rounds at the weekend to give it a really good go.

I can feel the ball off the face much better with the TPT. Less vibration. Both get enhanced the longer the putts get. For me its enough that I game a DF3 w/ TPT and don't think I could with the stock steel.

Great feedback thank you!

Does anyone understand the explanation of the L.A.B. grips? If I'm understanding them correctly, you can change out the grip on the DF3 with any of the Press grips, but in doing so you may end up with a little more shaft lean. It's not going to do anything to actually mess up the lie and balance of the putter though.

I want the Textured Press II 3* instead of the Pistol on a DF3. I just don't love the pistol, I want it flat. Is that how anyone else understands this?

I think ultimately this just comes down to person bias. I don't have any issues feeling the ball off of the DF3 face with the stock shaft. That's not to say it might be easier with the TPT as I've never tried that one, but I could definitely feel where I was mishitting and knew right away with the stock shaft. I just can't justify a $400 upgrade for that little bit of extra feel.

I agree, and even harder to justify without getting to roll it first

LAB is shipping a textured Presse II 3 deg to me -- because the smooth feels great but may not work in extreme heat and humidity - if your sweat rolls down your arms onto your hands, and like me, you take off the glove to putt, textured would be the better choice.

But yes, I get more lean and one deg less loft, which is not a bad thing.

I have asked them directly and it could throw off the balance. They said any grip change with 10g of the original grip weight should be fine but after that it could change things regarding the balance.

I hit the practice green yesterday with my mirror to work on set up. Where are you guys setting the ball in your stance? I was just pulling putts slightly and I noticed the balls was pretty left of center on my set up. I moved it back to more center and rolled the ball better.

Do you mean if you get a non-presse grip?

They do have the Garden on the site

My best setup position is with the shaft lined up with my zipper.

I used a buddies DF3 and although it does look goofy the results were so good I ordered one the only downside is the build time but oh well

That is about where I was. Glad I realized that will see how it goes this weekend.

I just called and got a similar answer but not exactly the same. He said 15 grams to me.

So assuming you got a DF3 with the stock grip being the Press II 2* Pistol = 58 Grams

You could switch the grip to any of the following WITHOUT a rebalance:
Press II 1.5* = 64 Grams (6 gram difference)
Press.1 3* XL = 69 Grams (11 gram difference, I specifically asked about this one and he said it's good.)

You can not switch the grip to any of the following unless you send it in for a rebalance:
Press II 3* = 77 Grams (19 gram difference)
Garsen Quad Tour X (21 gram difference)

@Desmond - Tagging you so you realize this since your talking about regripping to a 3*. Sounds like they recommend a rebalance with that shift, which kind of sucks.

I was thinking about these remote fittings, and I'm just not convinced if you are +/- 2 degrees from the standard 69*, it's worth going custom? If that's all your doing it for.

A quick google search says you need to stand approximately 1/4" closer to a club to adjust the lie angle by 1 degree. So all I have do to get to my fitting of 67* is to adjust my stance so I'm 1/2" close to my ball...like...ok...I can do that to save alot of money?

Am I missing something here?
