Launch Monitor Personal Use?

Thanks to my 70s era Phoenix home, I have a sunken second living room that I would love to ditch the pool table and turn into an indoor SIM. Radar based system wouldn’t fit. But optical would.

sim golf would be my primary motivation. Sure I’d use it for practice but not a number chaser.
Cost and year round AZ golf keeps pushing one done the priority list.

I bought a skytrak u it for all of the above. I understand the shortcomings of the unit, but the price point is less painful. I have seen my ball striking and consistency improve tremendously since last year. Just having the instant feedback to help improve and to hit a lot more balls conveniently has allowed me to understand my swing at a whole new level and how to manipulate it based off my miss that session. Throw in sim rounds and it just takes it to a whole new level. Tgc 2019 is well worth the money.

My dad has the same setup. It works well for him. The first winter he was playing 36 holes a day on the sim. His handicap went from a 29 to a 19 over the winter, lol. Been going down steadily since.

carry yardages , club head speed, and ball speed would be main use, if had the ability to give club data, then may use for to check certain data points when things go a little array

Primarily for club and shaft optimizing. I don’t do very much range time anymore so I’d use it on the range as well for feedback but I’ve only had a handful of serious range sessions since March and honestly my Rhapsodo is close enough for that. When I was younger I used to hit 12,000 plus balls on the range each summer but now that’s more like 1,000 balls.

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

Actually I would be probably 40% Sim 40% practice and 20% data. Nearly pulled a triger on the Mevo plus last month, however my unheated garage(s) may not be conducive to stricking golf balls in 20* weather. I usually have my pole shed filled in winter and would have to tear down the set up in the garage to get my truck inside.

I do have a sc300 and can get fairly good idea on yardages, but it sucks not seeing shots shape.

In the beginning, I would probably use it to get all the data of my clubs and test out different things. However, I mostly would use it as a sim and play with friends on weekends, especially during the winter months.

Practice and Simulator, probably in equal measure. I like having club data as a check for some things I work on. Ball data is obviously fun to have, but being able to hang out, drink and play different courses without having to leave the house would be fun.

I would want sim play, but my house is on my home course. I can just go out and play a few holes 75% of the time I really want to.

Golf Sim and Practice/Lessons are the first 2 that come to mind.
They are finally coming down in price to where you are going to see more home Sims set up.

Living in the Northeast where the end of the season is rapidly approaching I see more of a need than for someone who lives where there is no off season.

@snafu just got the mevo 2 and I was wonding why not just set it up on each tee. It would take all of 30 seconds.

Launch monitors are fun. I want one but the practical thing keeps telling me is it is not needed or that useful to me outside on a range. If I could set up a simulator I would be all in. I just dont have the space.

I wish I had the room at the house for one. I wouldn’t mind making a temp setup in my shop at work that I could setup/takedown easily. I’d use it for club data, practice, and if at work, I have a couple coworkers that we could make a sim league with.

FRO me, I would be a Sim Set up in the garage or Spare Room. Net or screen to play in the winter and bad weather days. I like to tinker and do my own shaft work, So i can see me chasing the consistency in swing speed, dialing in the right shaft for "that number"....and I would love to test more

I have limited space and limited time with two young kids in the house. The limited space has more or less negated the radar based LM options for me. I've marked out an area in our garage that I can make a quick set up/tear down bay in. I honestly only get to play maybe 8-10 times a year but I love to play. With the kids around I hit the range more often because I can get away to hit balls for an hour or so...not so easy to sneak away for a couple of hours.

I want to have something in this line for a full golf sim. Knowing that nothing can replace the course conditions, putting, etc...I just want to be able to escape for a half hour and hit some balls with some accurately reflected info. Even better for when my kids get a little older to let them have fun in there without the hassle of getting them out.

I like the versatility of both, but I wouldn’t be motivated to spend the money unless I had some sort of sim option for the winter months.

I have room for one and 'planning' is underway for a proper setup. If the numbers tossed around earlier in this thread are close to accurate, one of these will be a strong possibility.

I’d use as a sim. Have a Skytrak, net, Large monitor with a souped up gaming laptop in my garage for colder months. When I’m interested in numbers I’ll take the Mevo to the driving range.

Unfortunately I don’t have the ceiling height for a sim setup. I would have to take it to the range and use it for that. When I use the sim I have access to I do it to understand swing performance and carry distances for my clubs.

Would love to use one for both sim and practice. Don’t know if I could take hitting off of a mat though anymore. Last time I did my wrist hurt for about a week and a half, probably due to my surgery.

I'd want one for a sim and practice setup. It would be great to practice and get the feedback on the numbers as I go. I'd probably use it for all of the above, but sim/practice time would be the big thing I'd want.

i'd like one to get some practice with my driver without feeling like i'm playing a boxing bag punch machine in the arcade every time

I think primarily it would be used for a driving range and data collection. Still too many unknowns in my game. Why things do what they’re doing for some shots and not doing what I want them to do for others. Simulation would be a fun way to have a quick session. But, I think it would mainly be a way to grove shots.

I had some lessons a few years ago. Instructor wanted me to practice very specific shots. Hitting long and short off very specific distances with specific ball flights. Wasn’t really an option without something to measure the distance with.

I just think having a device that you could get immediate accurate feedback to absolutely dial in shots would be amazing. If a guy wants to really work on hitting certain shots it’s not always going to work out on the course depending on how the pace of play is going.

I think something like the launch pro/gc3 would be an absolute game changer especially for someone in the northern climates. I have a mat and net setup in my garage and it’s nice to be able to make swings. But getting zero feedback is a little scary as I don’t want to groove in bad habits.

I have been keeping an eye on the R10 from Garmin. But the feedback I’ve seen on indoor use has beenless than stellar. I think if I were to do it I’d want to do it right and go with a camera system.

The main use for me would be data and range, winters are long and severe suckage up here! 😥

I have a SkyTrak and am going to move over to the GC3. I was going to do the Kit but I have lost all confidence in Full Swing. I use it more for practice and doing drills after a lesson trying to grove what I learned. I do some sim play but those days are for when the weather is bad and I cannot play outside. I’m lucky I’m where I can play year round. I am changing because I want club data.

I would use one for both practise and playing rounds. I have just got a spornia net and decent mat and I think skytract or a GC3 addition would be brilliant. Just have to convince the minster for finance that the money is well spent on one of these things. She would probably say 'whats the point of being a member of a club if you can play at home'. After getting a launch monitor the next obvious step is getting a projector and impact screen for the full benefit. To be honest i think the basic setup with net and quality mat with a accurate launch monitor that can provide all the data you need would be sufficient for most. As other have said earlier the ability to go and hit say 20 balls whenever you want is a great and you would be more likely to practise more often just because its so damned easy to do so. I have found just having the mat and net at home fantastic as its set up in the garage ( i have 3 metre ceiling) and i can walk out at any time and hit a few balls and work on things from my last lesson. So much easier than jumping in the car and driving to the range etc. If anyone wants to send me a unit to test and review, I am all in.
