Anybody get a chance to play Olivas Links, Ventura Muni, or River Ridge in Ventura/Oxnard, CA? They pix online look great, but I'm looking for some personal insight.

Olivas and Buenaventura both just finished with a complete overhaul. Olivas is rated top 50 in lots of magazines for best places you can play. Links type, Wide Fairways, tricky greens, when the wind is up, it can be a long day.

Buena is only 5900 or so from the tips, with some tough holes. Its defense is undulating almost miniature golf like greens. Its usually in pretty good shape.

River Ridge is nice, both the Lakes and the Vineyard. They opened the Lakes about 4 years ago and the greens are fast on both. Both courses have a few holes on top of what used to be a dump, and the 7 holes up there (3 for Lakes, 4 for Vineyard) feel a little "forced" if that makes sense. The rest of the layout is great.

If I had to choose an order, it would be Olivas, River Ridge Lakes, River Ridge Vineyard, then Buena. The Seabee Golf course on the Navy Base is open to the public as well, just call the pro shop to get base access, and might be around $25 without cart, but its easily walkable. Its 6200ish and the greens are in great shape, the rest can be a little rough at times but it gets lots of civilian play because its worth every bit of the green fee.

GolfNow (see "Book Tee Times" above) usually has great deals on all of those courses, especially after lunch during the week.
