Mizuno JPX 925 Forged Irons

OK, I just walked out of the store and I wanna get my thoughts down while they’re fresh in my mind.

I alternated hitting forged and 243 with the same I 95 steel fiber shaft.

First a couple of undeniable truths. I get more yardage with forged. It’s a pretty consistent 10 yards. I can hit it all over the face and not have too dramatic of a drop off. I had a couple in towards the heel and a couple high on the face. I don’t notice much of a size difference at all looking down on 243 versus forged.

Now let’s go through a few undeniable truths for 243. Even with steel fiber, I hit them very well. I was more consistently in the center of the face. It spins in a better window. The feel is miles better to me.

That last one is the big one. I just can’t reconcile the sound and feel of forged. It feels like a hollow body to me and I don’t like it. Maybe I’m weird but sound and feel are very important to me with golf clubs always have been.

I think forged are very good. They’re consistent across the face. They provide a lot of help and for someone not as sensitive to sound and feel I think that would be an awesome fit, but not for me.

Mine finally arrived, 12 days FedEx, really?

6-GW w MMT 105S.

For looks only, need to get in the Sim, ice here in RI no golf outside for awhile:

Beautiful irons, compared to my gamers, CF19, top line is thinner and less offset. Swing weight all 3.5-4, I’ve seen some posts where guys saying the MMT swing weight real high due to the steel mesh in tip, but mine are perfect. Can’t wait to hit them.

Oh damn those look good. Even if they are backwards.

Had a range session yesterday to see what kind of distances I might have out on the course. GW and PW where couple of yards shorter on average compared to my 245's. 9 and 8 irons were right in line with the 245's .

Having only hit the 7 iron during my fitting. I was concerned the 8 iron would be shorter given the difference in materials. But my mind is comforted that is not the case.

That being said, the6 and 7 irons are considerably longer than the 245's. 10+ yards in fact. So may have to have them bent slightly to narrow those gaps.

Here were my averages GAP 113 yards. PW 126 yards 9 iron 140 yrds.
8 iron 152 yrds. 7 iron 169 yrds.
6 iron 181 yrds. 5 Hybrid 194 yrds.
7 wood 216 yrds. 4 wood 226 yrds.
Driver 241 yrds.

What I was most happy with was how tight a dispersion was for most of the clubs.
Here's my 6 iron. Two outliers, I pushed my first shot and I think I over copensated, and pulled the next shot 😅 The next 5 were pretty nice though.

Love the looks of the black two toned face. It frames the ball really nice. Comparison of the 245's and Forged.

I continue to love these irons. Iron game is strong now, hitting a lot more greens. And effortless distance.

Here is 4 iron. Such an easy club to hit. I had to hit it twice off ten deck Saturday due to going opposite way of dogleg off the tee. Both times I hit the green and saved myself from bogey on the hardest holes.

Got out on the course for the first time with these. 41 degrees.
I am surprised on how high I hit the 6 and 7 iron. 167 yd par 3 and put the 7 iron to 10 ft. Even on a slightly frozen green, it hopped and stopped.
Loving the buttery feeling off of these.
Did have some distance loss on 2 hits that were towards the toe but still straight.
Bring on the warm weather.

Current gamers:

Mizuno 225 4 iron
JPX 923 Tour 5-PW

Having serious thoughts about the new JPX forged irons though. When I got the 923 Tours, I was playing a lot more golf. Enter 2 kids under 2 years old and I’ll be happy to get on the course 2-3 times a month if I’m lucky this season. I’m really struggling with the 923 Tour 5 and 6 iron. I’m just not striking the ball as consistently as when I was playing more frequently.

At the very least, I think I may jump for the 4, 5, and 6 iron in the Forged. Bend them a little weak and bend the tours slightly strong to get the distance gap closer to what I’d want. Give me more forgiveness at the top end.

But I’ll admit a part of me wants to just go all in on the Forged model. Maybe just 4-9 and use a specialty PW. Just questioning if I’m going to be able to get on the course enough to consistently handle the 923 Tours like before. Only worry is that I tried a full set of the Mizuno 225’s previously and just kept hitting missiles into the green and couldn’t generate enough spin. Bending the forged a few degrees weak and using a slightly more spinny shaft could be an intriguing combo though.

Does anyone know if the 8-G irons have the contour ellipse face as do the 4-7 irons?

Looking through my Mizuno presentation notes and I believe that the contour ellipse is only on the 4-7.

Has anyone seen a problem with Mizuno iron tolerances and being way off from specs out of the box?

Do you have a statement to make with this? It's an odd question to just pop up out of nowhere.

To answer your question, I personally have not. I have seen some deviations with other companies in the last couple years.

No statement. Just didn't think it warranted its own thread.

I couldn't say for sure. My fitter inspected them before he sent them to me. I'm very happy with mine so far.
I'm sure I will like them even more, once the weather warms up.

These are the best irons I’ve played. I used to lose strokes in approach for strokes gained, now I am gaining. Just effortless power.

I think I might get some black forged. Seriously. I'm like 90% of the way there.

They look amazing, the sole gets through the turf brilliantly, more forgiveness than I've played in .. I don't even remember when.

4- P, 2 weak, 1 flat, MCC Black/Grey Plus 4 +1

I think we should do that.

I love mine so far. 925 Forged 6-GW with T-3 52/56. Three range sessions and finally got a round in Sunday. All with the same shaft MMT 105S. Just ordered the T-1 60-06X today. I wanted something for those real tight lies around the green, just need to figure out what club to dump. Thinking 4H since I have the 3H and 5H already.

I dropped off my set yesterday to have the lofts checked just for piece of mind.

FYI. Had my set 6-GW 925 forged lofts checked and the fitter didn't even charge me the $50 fee. Said he couldn't justify the fee because the lofts were just about spot on. He barely bent one or two irons.

Not surprised to hear that! That’s great
