Was playing with my buddy on Saturday and he noticed I was sliding the front of my lead foot toward the target as I start my downswing. The heel stays in place, but the front part of my foot moves toward the target quite a few inches.

I do have a bad back and sometimes have trouble getting through shots. Is this my body helping me clear my hips...or something else bad going on?

That's normal. Your foot is releasing the strain on your knee. If it didn't do that you'd end up like I am right now using a cane. Perhaps you should think about flaring your lead foot toward the target at setup to save your knee. It might also help you get thru shots. I'm having to learn this now.

Yes, some people do move their lead foot to clear for club swing. Look at Scottie and Lexi, they have some serious lead foot action going on.

At one time when I had a bum knee, I was doing this a lot, so yeah it can be a knee saver also.
