New Cobra KING Forged TEC Irons

Thanks for the insight. How does the turf interaction work for you? I've given going with the RapSpeed some thought as well and would likely be the 4 iron if I go that route. Did you match your irons shaft to that one?
So I play Modus 120 in my Forged Tec's, and I have the Catalyst 80 Graphite in my Speedzone 4i. If you can, and really want to use the RadSpeed 4i, I'd reach out to Jose and see what shaft he recommends for your usage.

As for turn interaction, I'm usually only using it from the tee or the fairway, so my lie is usually a good one when i use it. I'm not using it out of the rough at all, unless it's lying up and almost sitting on a tee. I honestly think it's a great club from the fairway too, and I've gotten a lot more comfortable with the SZ 4i, over my 3w. For me and my swing, it just works.

Let me know if you want anymore Forged Tec vs Speedzone/Radspeed questions. I haven't hit Radspeed, but think it's like the Speedzone, just better ;)

The 4 iron is absolutely awesome in their last two iterations. I can't speak specifically about RadSpeed, but I went with the Fowler style 4 iron from Speedback and Speedzone and didn't regret it for a second. Saved me strokes for sure.

Such a fun consistent 4i. I went with it because of what I heard from MC participants, plus other general love of the club, and it has not disappointed. So glad I have it in the bag, and really don't know, with my game as it is, how I can go without it going forward.

Any concern that the 5 iron FT is at 23 deg and 4 iron RadSpeed is 19? Would you all adjust it at all?

In my opinion, just depends how you use it. I don't play to a number with the SZ 4i much. For me it's usually get off the tee as far and as accurately as I can, or, get it close to the green off the fairway on a long par 5, that I probably won't reach but want to get close. So in my mind, the gapping doesn't affect me as much. But it's also going to depend on what else you have in the bag, between the RadSpeed 4i and your driver.

Nope none. Gamed that exact setup with the 4 speedzone last year and it was fine.

That makes sense. It sounds like you use it similar to a 3U I currently have. It's mostly a tee club unless I get a plush lie or an punching out. I use it to replace my 3 wood on courses I know I need an accurate tee club for short par 4s.

I appreciate the back and forth. It confirms to keep a similar bag set-up to today, put a hybrid in play at that spot. Only real set composition change from the current bag is just one more headcover, 3w-5w-4h-5i instead of my current 3w-3h-4i set. Which is pretty much where I have been since day 1 but sharing the waffling on the threads makes for good conversation in some cases.

Happy to have the conversation! I want to see you guys have fun, both at the MC, as well as in general with your Cobra clubs! Put that order in, and enjoy it man!

I still cant get over how easy the long irons are to hit in the KFT. They are still awesome! As much as I want to get the copper MIM Tours I think my game is better fit with the KFT right now!

Easy and downright fun! Off the club face, they just go!

So I was able to test an Apex head on the 110 and and JPX921 forged on the 95. I liked the feel of the 95 better and dispersion was better. The 110 felt like I had to work more to load it, which makes sense given the higher weight, but it also felt like more work than the Modus 120? I am hoping the Cobra demo days has them to try in a Cobra head this weekend. Most of the fitting carts in the stores don't have either for Cobra. Fingers crossed demo days expands the options.
That was my experience when I played both as well. 110 was work, 95 was smooth with a definite pop.

Maybe I should have gone to the 4 iron in the irons for the Morgan Cup... I’ll guess we will see shortly.

Very true! We’ll say I’m just trying to give Cobra exposure to their whole line of clubs 😜
And I cant wait to hear all about it man! So excited for you all to experience the great Cobra equipment!

How are the forge tecs holding up with their competitors? Do you get consistent distances with the hot face? Is there any draw bias to them?

...so I apologize for not wanting to scroll through 112 pages, but Cobra Forged Tec is on the short list of new irons that I will want to hit when I go for a complete fitting with an experienced(over 30 years)specialist as soon as I play a bit more and have a bit more of a consistent swing to fit off of...when I first read/viewed initial reviews, the issue of quick visible wear after only a few rounds was raised by more than one user(some claimed that just carrying the FT in the bag caused scratches, etc.).
Any problems with quick wear and tear from FT users out there?
Thanks for any response...

The new wrenches are SICK! They look much better in person, which is a pleasant surprise because the photos looked great! Glad I took the leap... Enjoy!

You are really whetting my appetite with those pics.

I have a copper set with the black $-Taper shafts being (slowly) built for me.

First set of brand new irons I’ve bought in years.

It’ll be very interesting to see how they fare against my Gen1 PXGs. I like the PXGs so much that after selling them to move to Gen3s I ended up buying them back from the guy I sold them to and flipping the Gen3s to him in the process.

:)

The FT performed better in the fitting, but new clubs always do.

I’m a tad concerned about having such flashy clubs and then playing like rubbish with them, but on the other hand fear of this may lead to long overdue lessons.

On the downside, I bought one of the MIM Masters copper wedges to go with the FTs, took it out yesterday and hate it. Both performance and the wear after half a round.

So i had these clubs with aerotech steel fibers, then sold them, went through PXG Gen 3s, JPX 921 forged (currently gaming), Srixon Zx7 (awesome but decided why am I gaming a less forgiving club).

and now I've ordered another set of the FTs but this time with modus 120, 1/4 inch short, 1 degree flat, 1 degree weak to basically try to match the lie loft and length of my JPX 921 Forged, which I hit very well. Also wanted to get a little more spin so that's why I weakened the lofts. Distance was never an issue with the FTs.

I think I may be in the minority (looking at another thread) but i think the 921F are pretty forgiving. I just missed the sound and feel of the cobras and the turf interaction from the rough was pretty amazing.

I know, it's weird to pick the sound and feel of a hollow body over a forged club but i guess that's why It's subjective.

If it helps, I've had the FTs in the bag for a year now and absolutely no issues with wear at all. Still in great condition, and if I cleaned them as regularly as I should do then they would be even better

I actually think sound looks and feel (SLF) are the most valid reasons to change.

They are precisely why I moved to PXG a couple of years ago. And why I bought the Copper FTs.

Objectively, ie based on Trackman (and allowing for loft), I have almost identical numbers from a 2016 fitting with Callaway Steelhead Pros as I do from my latest fitting with FTs and PXG Gen3s.

But I hated the SLF of the Steelheads. I liked the look but not the sound and feel of the Pings that replaced them.

I loved the SLF of the Adams CMB that replaced them, but not the performance.

The breakthrough is that SLF no longer carries a penalty.

If you are a half-way decent striker you can buy a used set of PXG 0311XF that sound look and feel like the Mizuno blade you’ve always pined for.

And hit them well.

These are good times for SLF fans

I think the FT have worn great. Played them all of last year and still have them in the bag. The only real blemish is one I missed severely out on the toe and missed the grooves.

That's the combination I would go with. Interested to see how they work for you.
