Surprisingly, it's the Newport that calls to me from this release (I'm really more of a 2 guy). But I imagine they will be able to be had lightly used for a decent discount soon. Especially the Squareback and Fastback.A few models out on the floor to demo, and despite them being pretty slick, and feeling buttery soft, I don’t know if they are quite enough to get me to jump into a wild new love affair. I liked the Squareback 2 alignment, but that window cut out gave me pause for some reason.
That was the only other one I picked up, and while traditionally not a fan of the Newport (I prefer the sharper/more squared off look of the 2), this one was pretty good. Now, if they put that new insert in the Super Select Squareback 2 LD, here’s my money.Surprisingly, it's the Newport that calls to me from this release (I'm really more of a 2 guy). That’s the one I demoed today. Rolled nice, just wasn’t quite the visual I was hoping for with that rear window. They are making a LD of the new Squareback. But it'll have that cutout.
That general design pushed more weight to the perimeter, which helps stabilize the putter head when hitting off center. I’ve always been a bit of a fan.So this what I am calling donut style putter is really catching on?
I am not sure I see the grand appeal to them, but then again I haven't seen on in person yet either.
For sure, I understand the concept completely and in all likelihood would be swayed a bit more when I see it in person. I mean I loved the fang series of putters or style, and that is a bit out there in a sense. That general design pushed more weight to the perimeter, which helps stabilize the putter head when hitting off center. I’m really looking forward to trying out the Catalina this weekendGot to roll these the other day. The ‘donut’ style, as coined by @golfs_happy, didn’t feel all that great to me. I wonder if by the time you create the donut, and then further reduce the material in the wings by creating both the space and the screw hole needed for the alignment pieces, that something just gets a little off.
Flip side of that, however, was that the Catalina felt fantastic. It just hit that sweet spot of being soft yet dense.

I thought he has minimal…or he just wore his outAnyone notice JT’s scotty, no face milling.
I noticed that as well. I’ve seen it on a few putters that Scotty has posted but I don’t think that has ever been offered in the gallery to my knowledge. I think he did do something a couple of years ago where he offered up a handful of blanks to customers and they could customize it however they likedAnyone notice JT’s scotty, no face milling.
This is an excellent comparison feel-wise. I really like the feedback of the Phantom line, I think it’s been fairly consistent through different iterations and the chain milling is pretty close, maybe a bit sharper on the Phantom.Rolled a few putts with these and really enjoyed the feel off the face a lot compared to previous models sorta felt like their Phantom stuff in a smaller package.

The chain link insert is as soft as Odyssey’s White Hot insert. There’s very little sound at impact. This is an excellent comparison feel-wise.
