Newton Motion Shaft Review

Got my 4 dot/Callaway XR16 combo out for the first time this morning. Comparing to the stock Speeder 565 stiff.
First impressions:
Visually, really nice pairing with the matte black head.
It feels a little heavier than stock, stiffer feeling tip.
First time out and saw some distance gain, not 20 yards, but respectable. That I hit 4 out of 5 fairways will have me work with this again for sure. The miss was me, not the shaft.

During my fitting on Wednesday, the fitter says “hey, you wanna try something fun?”. Uhhhh, absolutely. So he threw this in a GT2 and said this shaft was designed to go “high and straight”. My first two drives were not close to solid and, sure enough, straight and high. Took maybe another 8 cuts with the shaft and ultimately went another direction, but it was certainly impressive.

And the looks of the shaft are simply awesome. The ways the color changes in the light are awesome and it’s just an all around gorgeous shaft.

Really liking this purchase…. From the look to the sound (different in a good way vs stock) and some drives well past my usual results. Today’s misses were all Indian, not the arrow IMG_5830.jpegIMG_5831.jpeg

i'm on week 3 with the 3 dot and despite a painful recent shoulder injury my swing speed has increased to hovering between 95 and 98. With the injury i changed some of my mechanics to not feel the pain and surprisingly my ball flight been nothing but long, straight and high . Had another cortizone shot earlier this week and today i was all over the place but still long . think avoiding the pain forced me to be a lot smoother and today i was getting after it . Going to try the 4 dot , I love the shaft and it was definately me today but i felt i was overpowering the 3 dot and their customer service has been great

Interesting, i thought the 3 dot was high 80s to mid 90s.

yes ,85 to 95 and at the time i was in low 90's but now pushing 98 with an injured right shoulder and definately not a smooth swing i was advised to try the 4 dot ....

I’m playing the 2 dot with a mid/ high 80s swing. I’ve seen a yardage increase and better accuracy. Def hitting more fairways.

I have a 6dot that is cut longer with a Titleist adapter on it.

Any AC member that wants to try it out and have some fun let me know.

What I find interesting with this shaft is the weight.

For a slower swinger like me... I am probably in the 89-92 mph zone most days, I would think something in the 50g range or even lighter range would be recommended and likely even the most fitted weight. With their dot system it would put me into a 65g shaft. For that reason I wouldn't even try something above 55g at this point. I know we are only talking 10g difference but if anything I would prefer something in the 40g range that is more stable to see if going lighter would increase distance for me.

Keep in mind, that chart is for the fairway shaft.

I wish I had the speed to try that!

Want to try it anyway?
I appreciate the offer! Let me ponder that. I am not sure about 70g in my driver. Is it essentially an X or TX flex?

I went back and looked and what messed me is if you click into the driver shaft page and click find your flex for some reason they linked the FW chart by mistake.
But I was able to stumble upon their driver chart elsewhere on the site.

Hit a 5 dot today and it was fantastic. I hit what the fitter gave me and while he kept saying it’s a 4 dot it was 5. After looking at their chart I would actually be a 4 dot so it was interesting that I hit the 5 so well. Really wish I had hit the 4 as a comparison.

Regardless, hard ponder on the 5!

There may be one for sale in that section of the site, cheap. Not mine. Take a look.

Really intrigued on these, trying to decide between a 4 dot and 5 dot

I’m by no means a or the expert, but I’d say either err on the side of caution (4 dot) or, if your swing/transition is more violent 5 dot and if smooth 4 dot.

You do get a 30 day or maybe it’s 14 day, validation period i think.

5 dot is EXTREMELY stout. I’d go 4.
My driver profile said 5, Newton customer service recommended 4. I’m very pleased with the 4

So I have a 5 dot on the way this weekend. Swing speed is 102-108 depending on the day, but with good results, have been playing a Ventus Black 6X in a Callaway TD Max so decided to start with the stouter profile first. Had a chance to hit a 4 dot from a fellow club member and it felt pretty loose so hoping this will work and if not, can always trade back to the 4.

I tried a 4 dot a few months ago. I didn't get along with it very well, dispersion was poor and I didn't pick up any distance over my gamer. It was a pretty shaft though. I'm glad it's working for some of you.

So finally got a chance to get out to our course with the 5 Dot along with some significant warm up time prior to the round. Really good range session and it was pretty clear that this shaft was much more "user friendly" than what I was coming from (as mentioned above - probably punching above my weight class in playing the Ventus Black 6X as a 105mph swing speed - previous to that was using the stock Denali Blue stiff that came with the AI TD Max). On the range, it was effortless to get a higher ball flight and I was hitting my standard 5-10 yard draw. The shaft felt like it had some flex and life in it, but when I went after one, it stayed with me.

For the round, the results from the range carried over and I had one of the best driver days of the year - 3 birdies on the round that were all setup with good drives. Hit 7 of 9 fairways when pulling driver, and one of the misses was a result of the confidence from the day and taking a very aggressive line trying to cut a corner that I just missed. Distance wise - I seemed to be getting much more carry as the fairways were wet and distance was only coming through the air. The best thing I can say about the shaft - it made the round fun being able to have confidence and be aggressive with the driver. Played with my son who is college golfer and he was very encouraged by what he saw - and I probably played 20-25 rounds with him this year.

I have a BLP so will try to get some numbers over the next few days - but very encouraged with day 1.
