Any recommendations for golf instructors in the Bay Area? Preferably in the Peninsula area?

Hot take… I’ve taken a lesson with Jake Hutt and while his IG is great and he has good IG content. He wasn’t a coach that I believe would work well for improving my game.

What was it about his teaching that didn't work for you? I'm interested in this too as Ive taken a couple lessons and they did not work well for me. It was mainly "just do this" without giving any drills or anything to help me achieve it. I was obviously unable to do what they asked and they kept just saying I'm not doing it and its what I need to do 🤦‍♂️

@anthonyt and @yoose check out the GOLFTEC lesson thread. Some good
Locations in Bay Area.

I’d also like to mention that Jake does know a lot about the golf swing. Not trying to give him a negative review about his knowledge.

For me personally, I came into the lesson knowing that I was having some issues with early extension. I mentioned before we started that I wanted to work on eliminating my early extension. However, similar to your experience, @yoose, we didn’t really address or talk about my early extension issue. Was more of a try this or just do this.

I think overall finding a coach is bit of a personal process. Jake seems like a good guy and he does have good reviews. Just didn’t think it would be a good fit for me personally after my lesson with him.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have some friends that have done GolfTec, I messaged their instructor to set up a time and they never replied so I just went elsewhere. From what I have heard I don't think it's a good fit for me either. They try to get you into a specific swing, I don't want to overhaul my entire swing again. I want to find someone who can work with my swing, fix any glaring issues so I can be a bit more consistent. I also don't like how their lesson packages have an expiration date. Also my friends who have gone to GOLFTEC have not gotten any better 😂

Yeah, that makes sense. It just gets so expensive to try out a new teacher just to see if they are a good fit.

In the past I’ve done phone interviews with potential coaches before hiring them. I know how I learn, and I ask them questions that give me an idea about whether they teach that way. For example, I’m a feel golfer so if someone says they are big on drills that require mirrors or analyzing video it’s not gonna work for me. I know what a good golf swing feels like but I can’t watch myself swing and know if it’s good or bad.

We have one opening tomorrow morning at 8:15 (1/18/25) at Paradise Valley in Fairfield If anybody wants to join.

I was looking at replanning Yocha for early Feb if we stay in this awesome weather pattern. Who’s interested?

i may be up that way in a month or so...

If timing works, and the weather doesn’t suck. I would maybe be interested to drive over the hill.

Angus is great.

Thanks for the recommendation!

If you don’t mind me asking. Did you get lessons from Angus?

Do you know if Stonebrae will let me do lessons with Angus without being a member at Stonebrae CC?

I do go to him. They will let you up there for lessons. He has to set it up though.

Depends on when we do it. If we do a Saturday I can almost for sure do it. Weekday might be a little more difficult. But potentially. For sure want to try

For me the next few weeks it will definitely need to be a weekend affair

Cool. I can make pretty much any Saturday in February work as of right now. Probably Sundays too but definitely Saturdays.

Saturday we got caught in our first frost delay of the year. I left Santa Rosa and the temperature was 39° and no ice on the windshield , and we arrived at Paradise Valley in Fairfield. temperature was 35° and ice everywhere.

I was at the range yesterday morning and saw the signs for the delay. I was supposed to play El Macero this morning, they were frost delayed til 10am so our 9:30 tee time pushed to 11:30 and my host thus had to cancel as he had mid day obligations. Trying in Sac tomorrow morning and expecting a similar outcome if I’m being honest.

ok

I have to admit I thought I heard of every golf course within 50 miles of Sacramento. Never heard of El Macero until doing a google search. Hopefully you got a round in Sacramento.

Played a quick 9 at Land Park with a buddy. Also frost delayed there yesterday as predicted, 9:15 tee time but didn’t go off til almost 10. Decent pace, shot 37 with a double on 3 and missing 3x really makable birdie putts on the round.

Hey all. @mson , @yoose and I are playing Corica South course on February 23 at 7am if anyone is up to do some dew sweeping with us. Have two spots. $89 to walk. I think it was $110 to ride but not positive. We have one more spot.
