NorCal Crew hangout thread

I’m in! Hope it warms up by then 🥶
Sweet. Edited post. Need one more. We played metro two weeks ago. It was 38 when I left my house. Maybe 40 when we teed off.

How was metro. It feels like it’s been hit or miss the last few months.
I enjoyed it. We were out early and group in front of us stayed a full hole in front of us and we lost the group behind us. So it moved well which is always my issue there. I think we walked 18 in like 3:40ish which is nice. I thought course was in good condition overall. I had one bunker shot where bunker was a barren mess but other than that I thought it was fine.

Agree it can be hit and miss. Almost like they let it turn into a disaster before the greenskeepers clean it up.

thanks, nice to hear it was in good condition, but given the cycle, its prob bad again so need to wait for the next good cycle 😜 can't remember last time the bunkers there or at monarch were not barren. looking forward to meeting you and mson. thanks for setting it up.

I love teeing off early. Usually the better players go off early and rounds are right around 4 hours at the most. Plus you have half a day left to get other stuff done. Only downside is usually you don’t get roll on drives even in the summer because it’s usually pretty wet from the dew.

Hey all. @mson , @yoose and I are playing Corica South course on February 23 at 7am if anyone is up to do some dew sweeping with us. Have two spots. $89 to walk. I think it was $110 to ride but not positive. We have one more spot.

If no one has claimed the last spot I’d be down to join. I played Corica South a few weeks ago for the 1st time it was in good condition and wasn’t too windy

Let’s go. No one claimed it. It’s yours.

What local golf clubs/ leagues are y’all in?

I’m part of the Palo Alto Golf Club where there are tournaments twice a month. One at the home course Baylands and one traveling tournament at various courses in the Bay Area.

Curious on which golf leagues everyone is a part of and if makes sense to join more than one league.

I’ve been thinking about joining Nor Cal Golf Guys. I wanted to see what y’all’s thoughts were.

I was always part of my work league. We played once a month all over and we also had a twilight league at Poppy Ridge during summer (before the huge re-do of Poppy).

That’s great.

My work doesn’t have a league.. might be a good idea for me to start a work slack channel/ group and find out who likes to play at my company

My GHIN is through Nor Cal Guys. I only play a couple of their tourneys a year when they go to a course I like.

How do you like their tournaments? Are they well run/organized?

Tourneys are well run. They do flights fine. Slow but that’s mostly people and not them. But they play nice courses and you get 4/5 2-1 coupons (metro, poppy, calippe, badlands and one more). Pays for itself if you want a real GHIN.

If your company is big enough, it could be a great way to network and your company might even subsidize it a little.
I work for LLNL (100% remote now) and the golf league is a "Networking Group".

@anthonyt here is the deal I was talking about for NorCal Guys.

Nice this is a good deal for the GHIN $75 for the year plus those 2 for 1 passes
Yes. Pays for itself honestly. And you get access to some pretty good courses with a bucket of balls and cart for less than the green fees would be. Or at least same.

I want to get out and play Callippe and Wente.

Haven’t been out to play those yet.

And also Poppy Ridge once the renovation is done

Played an early morning round at monarch bay today. Still had a layer of fog, never seen it like this before and thought it was cool so figured I’d share. Had a good front 9 and then imploded on the back 41/50 😔

How was Monarch? Haven't played there in maybe 2 years, but enjoyed it last time I played.

Nice. I really like Monarch. Haven’t played the full course in about a year but play the exec every couple of months.

I live close so I joined the membership so it’s a good deal for me. $32 to walk on weekdays and $50 on weekends. It’s in decent condition, but doesn’t drain well so don’t play after rain. They added sand in the bunkers recently so they’re in decent condition. Biggest complaint for me is the tee boxes, on most holes they’re never even, in the one place where it should be. Second complaint were the bunkers, very inconsistent and sometimes there’s no sand, but today they were nice so hopefully it stays that way.

Any time restrictions? Do you get to book early before they release tee times? That’s a good deal.
