Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot Putters

Well I tried the #7 TH again, this time without plastic, and vs the Spider ZT. While the TH is definitely very nice, and much better than the OG S2S, I still like the Spider better. The TH insert is a little firmer / louder than the Spider to me. I like the softer sound better. And for me the Spider is a bit easier to align. But again, if there wasn’t a Spider ZT I’d likely own a TH #7.

Rolled a few putts in my office with the JB Cruiser and I really like it. Can definitely feel that it’s softer than the OG Ai-One insert, BUT I don’t feel it will be an issue with speed control. 3rd putt, I stuck the ball in the puttout hole. Haha. That’s a good sign. I rolled putts with the CT and ProV1. Will roll putts with my gamer (CTTD) and VS Black Thursday.

Both the Rossie and Jailbird Cruiser are all packed up for a week of AZ golf. Hopefully, one makes me some money and wins the bag.

The cruiser is so well balanced.

Hahahaha, always a good sign when you get one to stay in that damn contraption!

The ball comes off the face so good. Still softer and may take a little getting used to but don’t think it will be a problem.

It’ll acclimate on the course way faster than you expect.

Super soft, but the roll is insane.

I had a chance to roll this lineup today and I came away extremely impressed. I didn't spend much time with the #7, for some reason it's never really fit my eye.

I started out with the Rossie as that shape is my first love and I immediately felt comfortable with it. It's the setup that I have wanted for years, a center shafted Rossie. It looked a little bigger to me than I was expecting, but not in a bad way and it inspired confidence. The red and black in my opinion is one the best combinations out there and Odyssey knocked this out of the park.

My first thought is that it is extremely easy and effortless to swing. It doesn't feel like you have to manipulate the head to get it back to square and it really feels like it's point and shoot. I tested every part of the face and it seemed like it was very consistent. It was a relatively small practice green so I couldn't tell much on distance control unfortunately.

The feel was tough as the head had the wrapper on it so I can't give a ton of true feedback. I will say it felt soft and has me really excited to try one without it. I LOVE the original White Hot insert and this reminded me of it.

I then tried out the Jailbird Cruiser. I have used a Jailbird a little in the past but it's just a bit bigger than I typically like. While I feel the same about this model, I was really impressed with it. The weight and balance of the putter overall is extremely nice and it was also very easy to roll.

The grip on both models was a huge improvement over recent Odyssey releases IMO. It still isn't exactly what I prefer, but I could use it with no issues. The feel was really good and the overall shape felt pretty comfortable in hand.

I think this release is going to be a huge winner for Odyssey this year.

Better return the other putter lol
lol when I realized it, I will say I checked the status of my order, but it has shipped. I’ll eye the SB1 real good before making a decision. The thing I do like about the SB1 is it being milled, and yet, it does have a softer feel. I’ve always had a soft spot for inserts, but I have never enjoyed one until today. To be frank, I have worked on my putting to improve everything, so my consistency has got better.

Odyssey has knocked it out of the park.

Has anyone figured out the grip weight? I got the Rossie and love the putter, but the fat grip is not my style. Want to switch a garden quad tour on it, but want to make sure it’s with 10g to not affect balance etc.

Sorry, I haven't seen anything out there with the grip weight.

@Hawk @Jman I noticed when putting with the Cruiser JB at 38 in at the pga that some of the best rhythm and control I’ve seen even on a store green. I’ve never putted with any cruiser putter before. Only 35 inch with Max Stripe, Toulon SD, AI milled T Two with regular grips. Any thoughts on that? I didn’t change any grip style when holding it. I was quite far up on the grip versus choking down. (6’3 but longer arms)

I cannot wait to roll the #7.

Just rolled some more putts with my gamer (CTTD) and the VS Black and OMG! I am blown away. This putter instantly made me realize I was standing too far away from the ball while putting. Moved a smidge closer and I have not missed a putt since at home. Odyssey absolutely nailed feel and roll. The Ai-One JB Cruiser was my gamer and of course tomorrow will be the true test once I can get it to a course, but holy smokes, I don’t see myself looking back. Just so DAMN good. This putting is f****** delicious!

I get the same feeling with the longer/counter balanced putters and had the same experience as you with that38" Cruiser JB. It almost forces me to use a slower and more controlled stroke and inside 10' it's deadly for me.

When I've gamed a longer putter like that on the course I've struggled with lag putting a bit and left myself longer second putts than I liked. But man do I love that type of putter on shorter putts.

When I switched to a cruiser style putter I also gained much better rhythm and I attribute that to the stability of the putter. This JB cruiser version is even more stable than my Ai One JB Cruiser.

Well, it arrived - that was mighty fast, I learned that I was selected on Friday, sent my info in Friday night, and here we are the following Thursday and it arrived - largest Callaway box ever too (and I have bought Callaway stuff for years - Biiiggg box.

I rolled several from 4-6-8-10 ft in the garage, including a few heel and toe misses (intentionally), they all nearly went in. I hit some one handed for sound only - ignore the crap/direction whatever - strictly for sound (wrapped and naked - the club not me), and will edit and post that as well.

Immediate thoughts - I view this, for me, as a major game changer. I noted (like a few others said, I stand a bit closer - I assume the shaft is more upright - and that is perfectly ok, and actually maybe slightly more comfortable. Weight to me, feels lighter than I expected - the cruiser feels lighter than my similarly weighted similar length Giraffe Beam 7. Build, I did an eyeball, not a microscope but very well built, seem to be no issues. Grip superb, hope it lasts, because I really like the feel, shape all of it. Shaft (color), black shaft inserted into a black stripe is dead on perfect - takes all sorts of extraneous noise out of the equation.

Ok that's it for the moment - will post up stuff from the phone shortly.

Playing 18 tomorrow tee time is 844 - so there will be some dew/moist greens early and drier by the back nine. Really excited to be tester here and will keep everyone posted on this - will offer it to playing partners as well to get their input...if they dare.

Do you have the #7?

Do you have the #7?
Sorry - I have the Cruiser - wanted it to feel (weigh/length) closer to the Giraffe Beam 7 that I was using. It feels lighter - but smoother - if that makes sense the GB seems more mechanical in movement the JBC feels refined/fluid. Heck, almost effortless - I know only 20 or so putts some strictly for sound others to see heel toe misses - but it seems to just work - and the lack of the press (a big fear of mine), really seems to help me ascetically and at setup.

The lack of a press is huge--absolute game changer IMO.
