Of these 3 accomplishments… which one would make for the biggest sports story…………..
a) a golfer shoots 54 in a PGA event
b) a Major League Baseball player hits .400 for the year… or,
c) an NBA player breaks Wilt Chamberlain’s record of averaging 50.4 points per game?
Which would garner the most attention… and of the 3, which would have the best possibility of happening..?

Personally… I think hitting .400 for a year would grab the most attention (as it would be a building to a climax story)… and there are more baseball fans. Of these 3… this may be the most “achievable” also.

Hitting .400 has been done, so it's the most achievable. But carding a 54 would break the record by 4 strokes. That's impressive.

I think 54 is the most likely to happen before all the others.

Batting .400 I think would be the most difficult to do.

Scoring average, well you just need a conceited ball hog in this day to try and pad your stats, but still probably difficult to sustain)

I think NBA would get the most attention as its more popular right now.

I would rank the possibility of them happening this way:
PGA
MLB
NBA

Jimmy Harden and Kobe averaged high 30s (37-38) , no one is going to average 50 in the NBA even in the live ball era we are in. Those 2 took ball hogging to extremes in those seasons and didnt even get close.

54 feels impossible even though it's a single day so miracles could happen i guess. It's more likely than someone averaging 50 over 82 games.

I feel like .400 is more likely. A great power hitter who gets walked a lot and has less at bats maybe. I think Bonds was over .360 one year wasn't he

I would think the 50.4 would be the biggest story.

But I would rank them in possibility at:
  1. PGA
  2. NBA
  3. MLB

I think the NBA one would be the most noteworthy. That would be an absolutely absurd year. Not that shooting 54 would not be impressive, but that is getting scorching hot for one round, whereas averaging north of 50ppg would be a year's worth of absolute fire.

I think the golf score would get the least attention because it's one day and would be out of the news cycle in a day or two. The other two stories would drag on for weeks.

I think so much emphasis is placed on other stats in MLB these days, that AVG of over .400 would be seen as a blip.

With NBA scoring as it is these day and lack of defense, that would be a meh burger for me.

Carding a 54, yeah, that would be massive, but the casual fan of sports isnt typically a golf nut that would know the difference.

Most attention? .400 hitter.

But would it be that or the first 30
Game winner since Denny McLain in 1968?

No one is hitting .400 for a full season in the MLB - The pitchers are too talented now, and much less emphasis is being placed on Average versus the long ball.

I think it would depend on the player that makes the accomplishment. All of these would be big stories, but if it was a Royal or a Brewer, .400 wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal. If it was a Yankee or Red Sox, they'd be the second-coming of Jesus. Same goes for golf. If it was some Joe Blow shooting a 54, it'd be a big highlight for a day. If it was Rickie, Rory, Scottie, etc., it'd be a huge deal.

I want to say the golfer but i think that story would be over quick....so, i'm going the NBA just barley over the guy hitting over 400. those 2 would be talk about for years and years.

I like the idea of a baseball player hitting .400 for a season. I love baseball at all levels.

A pgat event where a player shoots a 54 would be big news, but I think it would quickly be forgotten by the masses.

Averaging 50 points in today's nba would be big news. The nba has a deep following of fans.

Thinking that the nba, and mlb are equal in popularity, for me, I would say the .400 hitter would be the bigger story for a short time..

I don't pay much attention to the nba these days due to suspect officiating.

The points per season would be a bigger deal, because it would a record. .400 has been done. 54 in a PGA Tour event is the least likely of the list and also the least interesting story.
