Official Pickleball Thread

There are some rated open play indoor courts near me. Do ratings typically match across different areas or is it more of a facility thing where ratings are just made up? I got out on the beginner’s court and that wasn’t fun. Went into the intermediate court after a bit and that was more my speed. I’m guessing it was 3.5-3.75+ after talking with some folks. 3.5+ seems a bit high for being a month in so I don’t trust that number.

It can depend on how they rate. If it’s all just self rated, people usually rate themselves higher than they are.

Also if you look up ratings online, anywhere from 2.5-3.5 all have some of the same comparisons. Unless they are going by dupr, there’s nothing wrong with playing a little higher than you think you are.

Also people sometimes play lower than what they are actually rated and sandbag. So next time you play that court, it may be better players.

So trial and error is the best way to find a good court?

Honestly? Probably. Until you get to know the players and see where you match up

But this is coming from someone that almost never gets to play opens.

Those are 3.0 scores?!? Does your partner play very often?
There were for sure some higher level players here….

Partner just couldn’t get a serve in, and we got killed with balls popped back up. Mistakes all around, not a great showing. Still had fun. Singles later!!

I’m freaking deeeeeaaaaaad. Tired.

What a day.

Didn’t come in last in singles tho! But can’t feel my legs now 😂

Jesus hell. You had to play to 21??!

Overall a solid day. Got my serve working again, and got reps in. That’s the biggest thing. Getting in shape and getting reps.

I thought we were done in singles after pool play and I won my last game. We had a 40 minute wait and thinking I was done had already switched shoes and was chilling with my cooler. Then surprise 2 more games. 😂

But some of these guys are soooo efficient, and it shows why they are levels above me. But my legs are freaking tired, so going to get an epsom soak in and crash.

Just like tennis/golf…sandbaggers everywhere.
I was more talking playing to 21 in singles. My legs are dead just thinking about it!!

But yes, sandbagging is awful in pickle. Saw someone out at the courts today that is one of the worst of them. Always signs up for 3.5 division when he’s out of town at tournaments and has won like five of them.

We have our first ever tournament here at home. He signed up in 4.0-4.5 because everyone here knows he’s not that low. Made me laugh.

I went to a 1 yr. anniversary of one of the indoor courts. Spent all the cash in my wallet on raffle tickets. Best $5 I ever spent. Ended up winning a Diadem Edge paddle. I think pickleball paddles have the same breeding habits as golf clubs. This is my 4th in less than 2 mos.
