Official Rant of the Day

My uncle passed away on Saturday. He had been sick for a long time and we weren't that close. He drove semi all over the country, every state (except Hawaii) hundreds of times so we didn't see him much. What I did know is he was a great guy and we were close with my aunt and cousin.

It wasn't the funeral that really got to me today, it was looking at all my aunts and uncles (my dad is one of ten) and counting the number of them that have had strokes, bypasses, stents, brain issues and now one with parkinson's.

To top it off my mom missed the funeral because last night she was rushed to the ER because of heart issues. She's fine, but will spend the rest of the week going in for more tests. Kind of a wake up call that I need to start taking better care of myself and to buckle up because it seems like I'm at the age where the weddings have stopped and the funerals are going to take their place. Sucks getting old.

First off my condolences on your loss.

To your point, I truly believe we owe it to ourselves to live every day to the fullest as there is no guarantee of tomorrow.

Like yourself I have recently witnessed firsthand up-close and personal the volume of issues that come with old age, and it ain’t great.

My best advice is if you are thinking of doing something, don’t wait. Enjoy it while you are able because we never know when that will end.

Don't you detest it when Walmart changes their Isles? My orderly list goes down the Drain. Like walking up to Tee that you've played day after day with Club you know you need...and find a Hazzard that wasn't there before. 😞

I hate a store reset! I had the store all figured out and knew where everything was, and now you stinking b***ards have changed everything!

They say right now that nothing will change, including the market districts. Which is a shame because the Tallmadge GE looks like it was tired in the 80's. It's such a badly designed store.

I wish you had seen the Garrettsville GE when I was calling on it! It looked like it was out of the late 50's, early 60's! The place was filthy! There were stains on the hanging ceiling that looked like the furnace filters hadn't been changed in decades! And the wine section was an absolute joke! I was surprised that they were actually allowed to use the GE name! You get a certain image of a type of grocery store when you hear Giant Eagle. My so called "manager" fell prey to that, and when he screeched at me why I wasn't selling them any wine. I told him to get off his dead ass and go out there and see the store! The brand with most facing in their "wine section" was Boone's Farm!

I am noted for my paranoia of needles. And I do mean paranoia...there is absolutely nothing normal nor reasonable about my reaction to needles.

my wife loves to tell about the time she took me to a packed ER because my heart rate had dropped so far, they bump me to front of line, bring over the crash cart, I am so out of it I know none of this, but apparently when the guy went to stick the IV in I was fighting it so hard he literally climbed on the gurney and knelt on my arm so he could get the IV on...

all while the heart rate was well under 30 bpm

I say that to say this...dentist visits are...unpleasant for me. Last time I had to have a root canal redone, they gave me some relaxing pill that most people are fine with one, the really bad cases get 2. It took 4 for me.

Yesterday had to have more work done and they decided 3 was enough.

Spoiler alert; it wasn't...they kept reminding me to breath, I sweated through my clothes, my fingers hurt today from how hard I was gripping them...

and this is my fault for lack of self-control...just found out I was moving enough that some of the work needs redone.

Someone is not happy at this particular moment.
Hates Needles and yet you use the name that has "dart" in it. 🫠

update; apparently the pills worked. Just not when I needed them to. Because I remember the first tooth and the two needles. Things that happened that I don't recall;

- two more teeth got work
- this one I feel bad about...apparently the dentist chewed out the front office people in front of people for not starting me with three, going to four and waiting for them to kick in
- I apologized multiple times to him and them for being a bad patient
- told wife I wanted ice cream from Handels
- watched the Dodger game

I literally thought I remembered the entire procedure, came home and went straight to bed. So if they had just let that third pill kick in...I do feel bad they got in trouble though.

I suggest that the next time you need work done, remind them that you are coming in early to get started on your meds.
I severely dislike going to the dentist as well. I get where you are with this.
My dentist is a good guy & handles me like I'm a 10 year old.
I apologize to him about 100 times when I'm there.
So much so my wife yells in from the waiting room to "SHUT UP and let him do his work."
She's never had a cavity in her 51 years, so I don't listen to her :)

Everyone will apply for Vaca on that Date. 😀

You're speaking my language. Handel's Ice Cream was started right here in my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio in 1946, and the original store is still open. When old lady Handel was ready to sell and retire, she sold to a guy who slowly started to expand the brand, but she had some demands. The ice cream must be made in store! Not from a big, central plant and shipped. And if they follow the playbook, that ice cream is so good!

My absolute favorite restaurant just suddenly announced they were retiring, effective immediately. It was a little family-owned Chinese restaurant that has been around for 41 years. They had a HUGE vegan menu (in addition to their regular menu) with every normal Chinese food option you could ever ask for.

I am heartbroken

It sucks to lose a longtime favorite like that. Even more so when it's a good mom and pop, they're irreplaceable.

I freaking hate math. Also teachers who dump 3 missing assignments on you then take the next day off

Pretty much all the locally family owned restaurants near me are gone. It's really stinks when that happens.

Opened an excel sheet zoomed to 145% and now I’m ready to fight. TGIF!

Absolutely feel this. My buddie's parents owned a little hole in the wall Chinese place, maybe 10 tables max. It got me through a lot of years, with $5 plates of chinese, and often free food. Then my fiance (now wife) started going, and it was her favorite. You ordered the first time you went, and then they remembered your order for every visit after. So many incredible memories there.

The best chinese food I have ever had. Fresh, made to order every time, fast, cheap..... it was perfect.

The people who bought it wrecked it immediately :(

Wife flew into LaGuardia this morning. She said that was the scariest landing she’s ever had.

story I personally find funny. Discovered Handels in Scottsdale. We went back every day of vacation. Loved it.

Few months later when we were home I thought it would be funny to see how long it would take to drive there. Portland to Scottsdale...but I love driving the Mustang. So I looked it up...14 minutes. What?

Turns out there are not one but two Handels within 15 minutes of my house. I literally went to Phoenix to find the best ice cream in portland.

And now they opened one a couple blocks from the golf course...good for my taste buds, bad for my waist line!

Huntington Bank can kiss my ass.

If I interupt a call intended to bring me up to speed on something, and I give my understanding of whats going on in an attempt to shorten said call, don't tell me I've got it just to then go into the slow detail of what I just summarized in 5 seconds.

I was just gonna say that. 😀

You still have Huntington?
Earlier this year, it bought the bank at which I've been a customer for 20+ years. Never had any trouble with the transition until today and today was madness. I'm moving to a local bank, a benefit of living in a small town.

This happened to me many many years ago Maryland National Bank. Ahead of all others in advanced Services. 1st Bank in area to be digital (late 80s). Big outside Bank buys them and suddenly back in caveman era. Guess they didn't like the competition. 😞

I hate to read this and sorry for your loss. I have a mother who for the better part of the last 4 years has had some sort of health issues that requires her in and out of hospitals or doctors offices. Long story short, her immune system is compromised and any little thing is a "big" thing. She's stubborn and refuses to give up and I love her for that, but it hurts watching her go through it. In the last 18 months she has fought off sepsis three times which is nuts to me.

We all are dealing with something even if it seems like we aren't. I am here if you need to chat or vent, or just complain about Wisconsin winters, lol .
