Official Rant of the Day

We had to replace both of our units last month…..we cried paying that bill! Hopefully you don’t have to replace the entire unit.
I had it fixed July 4th weekend. My AC guy said it was his last band aid for it. It’s 23 years old. It’s lived a good life.

I think I have it up and running right now. YouTube ftw, but it’s def on its last leg.

Daughter was coming back from visiting friends at college, she graduated last spring.
She called me and said her vehicle was acting strange, then just lost all power and she parked on the side of the highway. Had to have her get it towed to a shop near where she broke down.
Wife and I had to drive 2.5 hours down to find her. Found her in some little small town just off the highway.
Wife took her off to a store while I looked at the vehicle to see what possibly could have happened.
Found her battery negative cable had pulled off the terminal lug clamp. Not sure how that could happen. Reconnected cable to the clamp and reattached to the battery. Vehicle ran great. Drove it straight home.
Made for quite a crappy evening.

There have been a couple of postings lately with THPers that have lost a loved one. I just want to extend my condolences to you. I know they're not worth anything, especially seeing as they're over the internet and all that but I know the words y'all said to me when I lost my wife in 2022 were nice and helped a little.

Clowns at CNN posted this , it was last year. We have no snow on the ground here , i golfed Sunday.

Queensland is the state that Brisbane is in and that island on the bottom is Tasmania...

Nope. Fix didnt last. It's dead.

R.I.P. This is going to be expensive.

Ugh! Family members that ALWAYS have to have drama just so they have the focus on them, especially around the holidays.
Dealing with some of that myself. Holidays can bring out the drama in some and we are already dealing with some nonsense ourselves

Good Gosh I'm tired of going to funerals and burying people that I know.
So far this year I've:
Lost my Dad
Lost my Old friend of 50 years. Was my ScoutMaster and my barber
Lost 2 department co-workers in 7 months.
The last one passed on Friday. Don't know the circumstances and he been frail however we they ask to donate to a Mental Health Cause, It might be a clue.
Never saw it coming.

It just "Grinds" on you...

New tires on the dadvan.

Ouch.

But all four for about the cost of 1.25 of the tires on the Doc’s truck hahaha

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee TrailHawk. On the way to the office in the rain the wipers suddenly stopped working. Just over the 36,000 mile warranty and being told the problem is a multi function switch and that costs $424.00 with another $400.00 in labor . Seems pretty ridiculous this would happen and even more ridiculous between parts and labor $824.00. Trying to call Jeep directly to talk to them but no luck. Im thinking of suing for a breach of implied warranty if they don't do something. Just seems very wrong

Ugh... I feel this. I need new tires on my truck bad and I am not looking forward to it. Rubber is so expensive.

Good luck 💰
Not as bad as it could have been, got a very fair estimate, I do believe. Plus, with going newer and greener, it should help on the power bill. Still tough hit going in to the holidays.

That’s good to hear

Never a good time but holidays are times we can’t cut back much 👊🏼

Still working through what needs to happen to get my car fixed from the accident. Supposed to get towed to the body shop today. Spoke to the company earlier and they said they were working on it and someone should call me about 20 minutes before they show up. Soo far no contact and one has shown up. Frustrating :/

Maybe crappy. At least not crappy and expensive. Once I was calling on a beverage drive thru when a lady pulled in with a late model car that seemed to be running very rough. While she was waiting for her order to be filled the car just conked out and would not restart. This was long enough ago that cars still had distributor caps. I told her to pop the hood so I could take a look. The coil wire that plugged into the center socket on the distributor had pulled out of the distributor. I plugged it back in and told her to start the car. It fired up immediately. She looked at me like I was some miracle worker and actually offered to pay me something. I refused.

You can get that with Jeeps, but I suspect it could be more widespread than that. My buddy's wife bought a Jeep whatever, and after some time the windshield began to fog up and she was getting moisture on the carpet under the dash. My buddy figured heater core. His buddy looked it up online and told him it would be no problem. It was a $75 part! So he went to a mechanic that he has used since he started driving, told him the problem, and asked when he could bring it in. The mechanic told him that he would NOT be bringing it there! He refuses to work on modern era Jeeps! He said he took one in for the exact same problem shortly before. You have to remove the steering column, the shifter and console, and the entire dash to get to the heater core!

He promised the customer to have it done in two days, and had to call him to say it would now take three, since he also had to take the driver's side seat out to make enough room! Plus, all those plastic, press on fasteners all broke on disassembly. So, he had to buy a complete set of new ones to get the thing reassembled. When the customer came to pick it up he was not happy with the delay, or the amount of money for the labor. The mechanic showed him the invoice for the fasteners and told him that he wan't even going to charge him for them. He was just happy to get that POS out of his garage! He told my buddy the same thing. If he wanted the vehicle worked on, he should take it back to the dealer that sold it to them.

The problem is that these vehicles are, to a large extent, assembled by robots now. My main mechanic is a "semi-shadetree" mechanic in that he is factory trained, but went into business for himself in his three bay garage. He does great work at excellent prices but will tell you when something is past him since he usually works alone. I needed a clutch on my old truck and he said he's getting away from work that heavy, so I asked him for a recommendation. He told me about a job like the one I described above. He managed to get the dash out, but getting it back in was another story! Damned thing weighed close to 200lbs he figured. Had to call a friend in to help him, and they still struggled with it. On the assembly line the completed dash unit is mounted on a computer controlled robot arm that swings it into the vehicle, and sets it into the firewall perfectly! All people do is bolt it up!

It's one of the reasons I don't lift my trucks and put big tires on them. I don't need it, and big tires are even more expensive than stock size tires.

I drive a Silverado with the Trail Boss package, so it came stock with a small lift and larger tires. Technically it’s “stock”.
