Sooooo I don't think I'm going to find a way to get myself back onto The Hideaway in November but I have to be there for 4-5 days for a work paid relaxation trip.

What courses should I try to play? I think I have reciprocal benefits with Mission Hills. A couple of guys from work want to play and I'm going to be setting up tee times.

these first three are well known :

Classic Club- Palm Desert
SilverRock - La Quinta
Desert Willow -Firecliff - Palm Desert

these next four are not so well known by tourists, but good courses which locals play:

Indian Springs - La Quinta
Terra Lago- Indio
Taquitz Creek- Palm Springs
Desert Hot Springs- Desert Hot Springs

Pga west
Desert willow
Missions hills

Those are my top 3 favorite courses to visit.

I've played the 3 courses at Mission Hills and they are all awesome. My personal favorite is the Pete Dye course there, the Gary Player is a little more 'standard' layout with 3 or 4 amazing holes, and the Private course has perfect conditions with a full Championship layout but there aren't as many memorable holes there outside of #18.

The 2 courses at Indian Wells are also very fun and beautiful, but more pricey. I prefer Celebrity over the Players just because it's a little less demanding off the tee IMO. Also of note, the Celebrity course is a Clive design.

Firecliff and Silverrock are both kickass courses as well, but I haven't played them for a couple years and I can't remember which holes are from which course lol.

My favorite courses there on a budget are:
Escena, closer to the airport. No driving range there but I've always been able to get on for less than $100 in prime season and the course is well conditioned and a fun layout.
Indian Canyons (south course). Beautiful, well conditioned for the price, and usually VERY affordable. It's set against the mountains so you get those kickass Desert Mountain views throughout the round!

All those other courses are great. But when we go down in the winter a few times for work, we always go here at least once. It's not as hard (or seemed that way) as a lot of the others and is beautiful as well.

Thanks everyone! I'm looking forward to some desert golf again

October is the month the courses close for over seeding (Rye grass replaces Bermuda), and most courses reopen approximately November 1st.
At complexes with multiple courses, such as PGA West-Mission Hills etc...one or two will be closed for the month of October, and the others closed for November.
If you are booking times in advance you should ask the course what day they plan to reopen.

Good tip here. Usually for the first couple weeks after reopening they have to water very heavily so the courses can be quite soggy. The conditions are good but soft in my experience.

I'll be there the 7th...probably stay through the 11th or 12th.

Palm Springs area?

Played a few courses in the PS area this year.

This is Indian canyons south course. Incredible views and the condition in March was perfect. $79

Last course is Desert springs...palm course. Was sorta disappointed. The course was just not in good shape. Greens looked they where aerated with tank tread, fairways where brown in numerous places. The flies were just brutal. But for $59 it was ok, anything more and I would have been pissed.
Few of the locals I played with stopped playing silver rock after they built the hotel/casino and re routed the last 4 holes and it’s not the same course.

Freaking ClubCorp is killing me...will only let me book times at Indian Wells, Mission Hills and Desert Falls during certain windows despite public tee times being available earlier...

You mean you want earlier tee times each day or that you would like to book a tee time now rather than later ?

I can't go off later than 9:30 each day I want to play that week and they won't book me earlier than 11:40. I know that ClubCorp only makes 10-12 tee times available for traveling members within the network but I'd love to get the times they are making available to the public to book. It is a difference in paying a $35 cart fee or $150-$180 public fee.

When will you be there, early November ?

Fly in the 6th, play the morning of the 7th and 9th with co-workers. Sticking around for Saturday for the NorCal / SoCal shindig.

You want to play the 7th and 9th and you have either three or four players ?
I suggest using www.golfnow.com or www.standbygolf.com. and you can likely find excellent courses in the $50 to $75 per player range.
www.standbygolf.com is local ; you might want to telephone them because they are up to date about when particular courses opened (after the month of October over seeding closures).

Yeah, all over GolfNow right now.

Any idea if Uber drivers are cool hauling you around with your clubs? Not all have been in other places I’ve been

When I was out there for a wedding, I didn't get the sense that of the drivers we had would have had an issue with golf clubs.
