Pete Rose is finally going to the Hall

I'm not shocked by this. Allowing Shoeless Joe before Rose passed would have opened up other arguments for Rose. It makes sense they waited, even if some see it as in bad taste.

I grew up a Reds fan. Still am. Love them. I was surrounded by them. My older brother wanted to name me Griffey. Rose didn't deserve the Hall of Fame.

He bet on his team. He had a chance to make a deal that would have gotten him in the Hall at some point and wouldn't take it. The he said he didn't bet on baseball. He lied. Then he said he bet on them to win every night. He lied. Every chance he had to come clean, he deflected, lied, or tried to take the spotlight away from those who were just elected to the hall. And he came clean in a book. To make money off the situation again.

He was to blame for his situation every step of the way.

His accomplishments were already in Cooperstown and at the Reds Hall of Fame. He was on the All-Century Team. He was acknowledged as one of the greats by his peers and MLB. He was a fantastic baseball player. And he was also a horrible person with bad character. And he served his lifetime ban.
Agree with every word of your post.

I’m glad it’s happening.

But the league are a bunch of cowards for not doing it while Pete was alive.

Rose leaves behind a complicated legacy. One of the best to ever do it on the field, but deeply flawed off of it. On the merits of his on field achievements, I believe he should be in the Hall of Fame. To let him in after his death, makes the decision makers seem petty and small, but it would rightfully honor what he did on the field.

Should have happened long ago. I’m glad that their families can see them represented in the HoF.

Is that an actual quote? WTF. Shoeless Joe has been dead for some time now... what was the hold up there then?
The hold up is Manfred is a hypocritical coward.

There have been 8 commissioners since Shoeless Joe died. They all could of taken the same stand. Manfred is not popular but has improved the game of baseball way more than someone like Bum Selig.

if they let Rose in there is no way they should keep Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGwire, AROD, or Palmiero out of the hall.

The writers won't vote on Rose or Jackson. It is a committee.
They will get in. I don’t think they get reinstated without that really being the reason.

They are all eligible. They just haven't been voted in.

I get that. Rose broke the cardinal rule of baseball and he never did anything to help himself dig himself out of that hole. Instead he just dug deeper and deeper.

Those guys will all have to get in the same way Rose will…through a committee.

He was player-manager when he was betting on the Reds. He broke Ty Cobb's record while managing the team and could have had money on that game. He controlled the lineups of a team he had money on or possibly against. John Dowd, who wrote the Dowd Report, stated he believes Rose probably bet against the Reds.

This isn't because MLB didn't like the guy. Sports HAS to be above board. It's not something you mess with.

And his bust will be one of the most visited. That's why its so infuriating that HE did this stuff to himself. He would have been in the Hall long ago as possibly the 1st unanimous player if he wasn't a arrogant liar.
Well said!!!
2 things can be true at once,
1 Pete Rose was a HOF player
2 Pete Rose Bet on MLB Baseball knowing the rules and the penalty.

I loved Pete Rose as a player but he broke the 1 rule that can't be broken.

fair, but Manfred was the one who was in the chair when they allowed sportsbooks into stadiums

If he gets in, I think there needs to be a giant ! next to his name/image. Yes, a great player, but a breaker of the rules.

Cmon...it's a little funny

I know he signed off, but I would be it was under extreme pressure from the owners - where at other times/rules changes, he might have passed that buck to the next guy (like all the other commissioners did with Pete and Joe (for example).

Read the title quickly and my brain read it as ‘Hell’. Thought yeah probably. He was a legendary a**hole. But a hell of a ball player and deserves his spot in the hall.

Until Bonds gets in the Hall of Fame is a farce.
