Just booked a little Friday-Sunday golf weekend in March to Phoenix. My buddy and I can probably do 36 on Friday and Saturday. Any THP recommendations for courses we need to play?

Play both We-Ko-Pa courses and play both Talking Stick courses.

Quintero is a fantastic course, a decent drive though northwest from downtown Phoenix. I also really enjoyed Eagle Mountain when I played it. Some fantastic views and it seemed like every drive funneled into the fairway (which made the round more enjoyable haha).

For any course you play just be ready to pay some prime time rates this time of year in Phoenix.

are you willing to drive a bit?
If so I’d add Dinosaur Mtn and Southern Dunes to your ponder list.

We-ko-pa is very much should play location.

Both We Ko Pa courses in Fountain Hills, Troon North, Boulders, Quintero (by Lake Pleasant), Grayhawk (either course), TPC Scottsdale... SO many good ones!

I'd check before booking Talking Stick; one course was closed last Summer and they were running over an hour behind on the tee times at the other course.

We-Ko-Pa and Kierland are two of my faves. I can’t afford to play them right now, though.

West side Verrado Victory is an amazing course.

Depends on where you are staying and what your budget is.

Looking just for 36 hole possibilities

Why you travel to PHX so $$$$ during peak season:

Wekopa - Saguaro >>>>> Cholla
Troon North - Pinnacle >>>>> Monument
Greyhawk - I don't remember either course but I hear good things
TPC Stadium and Champions - Stadium is probably still super high rates as stands are still in process of coming down.
Wickenburg Ranch and Quintero - If you want scenery then this is a drive but you can play both in one day.
Boulders North and South - Not sure if you can play both in the same day. They are semi private so keep one for members I think. Also it is very tight from what I remember

Some PHX favorites but flawed. May or may not have a price break:

Verrado Victory and Founders. Maybe switch one with Estrella. Best chance for price break as it is way out west. Victory has blind shots that are annoying until you play a second time.
Talking Stick - Both courses are Meh. There is a casino and Top Golf close. There is also a Spring Training stadium on same exit so it is busy.
Whirlwind - Both courses are good not great. Casino nearby.
Legacy and Raven - Close to airport but not the reason you travel to PHX.

Stay away from Arizona Grand, Kierland (overpriced), and Biltmore. ????????

My favorites: Wekopa, Verrados, Southern Dunes, Wickenburg Ranch, Troon Norths.

I was in Phoenix last weekend. Talking Stick courses looked in good shape but did not play. I opted for a fitting at Callaway Performance Center at Troon North and then played Monument (Troon North). Course was in phenomenal shape. It is a great piece of golf property. I would recommend to anyone looking to play in Phoenix.

The Wickenburg Ranch / Quintero combo that @echico mentioned would probably be my #1 choice for 36 at two different courses. If you do go that route just be ready to drive a bit that day as they are both about an hour outside downtown phoenix (Wickenburg a bit more than an hour), and they are about 35-40 minutes from each other as well. It would be a long day but well worth it.

If you do go this route, I would look into playing Wickenburg in the morning and Quintero in the afternoon as I recall the drop in rate for afternoon play being more significant at Quintero.

Don't sleep on Grand Canyon University's course. Last time I played it was in pristine shape and if I remember correctly it hosts the NCAA D3 championships

The buddy I’m flying down with has a friend that lives down there and he’s booking our rounds. We’re planning on 36 at Grayhawk the first day and Quintero for 36 on the second. I’m hoping both of these course are well above average which looks like they are online. We had a high of 15 degrees today in MN so I’d play anywhere at this point of the calendar. Should I raise hell and say no to either one of these courses?

Both are fantastic, from what I hear. I have played Grayhawk courses a few times but never played Quintero and only heard great things. It is on my list this summer.

You can't go wrong with either. Quintero is a great course, but a long drive out of town. It's a little weird because they planned a community around it and only sold scot about 5 houses. Last time I was there the "clubhouse" was still a trailer.

Papago is an old classic. It's a city course that ASU now runs. They have made a lot of improvements and the new clubhouse is fantastic. Phil gave them a bunch of money to build a practice facility.

Wildfire has 2 great courses. The LPGA plays here when they come to town.

Whisper Rock is amazing, it's where the pros play when they come to town. It's private so you'll need to know somebody to get on.

Have fun while you're here!

I know I’m in the minority but I didn’t enjoy Quintero at all. It’s pretty, but a silly layout. IMO southern dunes is cant miss along with Saguaro and Talking Stick North (I’m a big fan on minimalist design). Wickenberg, TN pinnacle, verraro victory, also very good.
