PING Blueprint Irons Lineup

Put some battle scars on these this weekend in PX, and got them out today for 18 at my home track. The stats this year are telling a pretty interesting story - proximity is 30’ closer to the hole this year on approach so far, and I’ve played to my handicap out of the gate to start the season. Was windy like crazy today, and these cut through with a nice, piercing flight. Very happy with them so far.
That prximity is impressive

LA Golf L Series 120 X rebuild is done and been put in play to good effect. Changed a couple lies after and feels like it's real close overall.

Numbers have been good. Right on expectation. Has actually made me appreciate the short irons more even. Good week last week for no time in on them prior and ready to start putting them to work more out there.

Looks sharp with the black/red theme going on in there! Poked my head in over at the local big-box last weekend and the store manager had a short iron built out with an Axiom 125X. Super smooth, obviously a little stouter than I’m accustomed to, and a couple of swings had me doing some graphite pondering. I’m still jealous of your spin numbers 😂

The Axiom is pretty cool, but less for me. Super easy to swing though and look great.

Jealous how? Remind me.

I swapped to the Blueprints because that was the combo that we could coax my spin in and around 5500-6000. I’m assuming those Foresight numbers are off mats, and your average spin is like my unicorn strike. I’m seeing a fair bit of spin outdoors (plus still playing the X), so I’m getting what I need, but last season it was a bit of a struggle point playing on the firm conditions we had.

I just read through this entire thread and would like to get a bit of insight from those of you who are bagging the BPS. Mostly, I'm trying to figure out if the BPS might even be an option for me.

I'll be retiring most likely the end of the year and I can see myself starting to play a bit more. Probably every other week. I currently play maybe 6 or so rounds a year but the last few months I've been hitting the range once or twice a week.

My iron game is fairly tight and when I miss a green it's usually a slight pull to the left. Distance is usually pretty solid and not too often do I thin or chunk a shot. I'd say I'm comfortable with my irons and pretty darn consistent.

I didn't have any real numbers to put up but the couple of times I've hit drivers at a shop my SS was between 101 and 104. If that helps

I'm about a 15 handicap currently but I can see that coming down a bit as I start getting some more rounds in.

Now the bad, and don't laugh. I play Ping Eye 2's with GL282 shafts that I've been playing, on and off, for almost 25 years.

I've never been fitted for clubs and I think I'd like to treat myself to a fitting and a new set of irons for my upcoming retirement. Not stuck on Ping but these look so nice.

Thoughts?

Edit: Oh! One of the things I like about the BPS is the availability of the "retro spec loft". These are about the closest I've seen to the loft specs of my Eye 2's.

I really need an answer to 3 questions:

They are shiny: Any glare?

How’s the bag clatter?

How forgiving on low strikes?

Just be aware the retro spec also will add more bounce, depending on your swing and or playing conditions you may or may not want that. Only reason I mention is the short irons already have lots of bounce to them. They are awesome irons, get fit and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them.

No glare that I can see.

I’ve walked 10+ rounds with them and it’s minimal. I have noticed some dark marks on a few faces.

I tend to miss thin from time to time and I feel that their just as forgiving as anything I’ve tried in this category on low strikes.

No out of the ordinary on glare.

They're actually really durable compared to my other stuff.

That's not really where I live, but it seems decent. Definitely on the 4 and 5 with the cutout.

More good stuff out of the Blueprints today, helping me hit 50% GIR on a pretty breezy mid-morning. I like what I’m seeing out of these, they are fairly forgiving for what they are, and the improved dispersion is showing itself time and time again. I’m kind of surprised I haven’t seen another set out in the wild around here yet, despite getting a lot of feedback about how good they are from guys at the local fitting facilities.

I’ve played A LOT of irons the last few years. There are certain aspects of others I enjoyed more than the BPS. But the combination of looks, feel, forgiveness, and playability of the BPS is the best I’ve found. Just an overall great set of clubs.

Another windy one last night (only got hailed on once though - I'll take the win), and the flight I'm seeing out of the Blueprint S is not disappointing in conditions like this. At the new home track the par 3's place me at mostly long iron yardages, and I'm getting a much different experience last year in terms of what I am looking for with my gear. These handle my thin miss pretty well, I'm still seeing fairly decent launch when that happens, and those pure strikes are something special. The greens I'm playing into this year are much more receptive than I saw last year, but it's nice trusting that a long iron will launch high enough and spin enough to hold the green - I hit a 6i into the wind yesterday that stopped about 6' from the pitch mark. Really happy with these things.

I get asked a lot about why I'm playing these. Until they try them. There are a couple things coming, but it'll be hard to knock the S out of my bag.

That must be before the round not after they have to go in their pocket to pay up :)

I have a number of rounds now with the S 3-pw, still loving them but now very familiar with them. Currently my home course is playing super firm, and at times i feel they might have too much bounce or too wide of a sole. Something I miss from a traditional blade design or like the T where the sole is a bit more narrow.

Another breezy one today, at least on the front 9, and I could not figure out my yardages for the life of me, spending my time either long over the back, or short of the green. Thankfully the short game bailed me out quite a bit, but on a day like today I’m thankful for the forgiveness that these things have. Obviously you’re only going to get so much with an iron of this style, but I feel like these have quite a bit to offer in that camp. Shot of the day was a wind aided 6i approach on a par 5 on the back 9 that set me up for my first eagle look on a few rounds, that ended up being 2/3 🐣 on the round.

Going back to flat. I like where being a little upright puts my swing but I haven't been able to play enough to groove that setup. With some work winding down as it heats up I just want to play some good golf and enjoy my awesome irons.

Played our par 3’s at E last night and hit 3/3 GIR, including the hole that’s given me fits all year so far. These might be in the bag for a long time - the only real challenger to that spot is the SMS Pro, which might get a round in tomorrow. Without the wind howling I was seeing the same carry numbers I saw on the monitor this winter, and I’m liking the consistency.

Just tested the bps for the first time yesterday and I absolutely loved them! Surprisingly strong ball flight with mid spin. Kind of opposite of what I anticipated. Look and feel fantastic!

Have not read through the entire thread, but curious to know if anyone has combo’d these with i230 in the long irons or i530?

Thinking hard about going bps 7-p and more forgiveness in 5&6.

These long irons are absolutely effortless, and I love the flight I saw today. Put a few tired swings on them by the end of the bucket, and they are more forgiving than I initially expected. I did notice for the first time today the more rounded leading edge on the set PW, which I really like for some reason, as it reminds me a great deal of the wedges I have in the bag. I haven’t had a chance to see the new Ping wedges in person and do a side-by-side, but I imagine the visual flows really nicely.

I wonder why they didn’t make the matching UW for this set?

BPS set on the way. MMT 105tx. Super excited!

Players irons and blades don't get that treatment as much. I like when other companies do it though.

Little softer conditions this week at the courses I was playing at, and man do these things get through the turf well. I’ve been a little hesitant back home to really try to drive through the ball as it’s been so dry and solid, but it was nice to take some good divots and see some soaring peak heights amongst some pretty backdrops. Very impressed by these long irons still - easy to launch and they feel crisp, I’m pretty happy with these things overall.
