PING G440 Drivers, Fairways and Hybrids

So I have been eyeing a Ping LST driver for the last few years. Tested some models starting around the 410. At that time I ended up getting fit into a Callaway Rogue ST that performed really well so I traded in a bunch of the Ping drivers I had bought used for the Callaway. I always wanted to get a 430 LST as a back up driver and never found a good deal that I pulled the trigger on.

Fast forward to this year and when I saw the 440 LST I instantly fell in love with the looks of this version of the Ping offering. Kept up with all the reviews of the driver and new I had to have one. Finally found a great deal and pulled the trigger around a time where my driver has been my most inconsistent club in my bag. All I can say is that this driver is the best Ping driver I have gamed and so happy I waited to get this one. I have hit some of my longest drives of my life with it and the sound and feel are awesome, especially coming from a Ping driver. It will be hard to get this driver out of the bag now.

They look great and since my wife keeps threatening to take my 425 I might have a replacement. Maybe delay until the price drops though.
Is she hard of hearing by chance?

I was comparing the LST to the Callaway Epic MAX LS earlier this year. On the range it was a no-brainer. The PING crushed the Callaway. However, I wasn't seeing that on the course. I was struggling to keep it playable off the tee. I decided on a final challenge. Trackman Muirfield Village from the tips. Epic Max/G430 3H vs G440 LST driver/LST 3W/4H. All other clubs were the same. I wasn't hitting particularly well that day, but the PING group was 14 strokes up after 10 holes. I might not have been in great positions, but with the Callaway I was going OB or in other terrible spots.

I ordered it. 😅
Got it yesterday, 3man scramble the same day. A few stock drives on the range and then things obviously got a bit wilder on the course, but I could really go after it, not catch it perfectly and get a good number out of it.

I almost forgot to mention what happened This weeknon a 9 hole league play. ( mind you a will shortly be 66).
On a par 5 I hit my 17* g440 4 wood 238 off the deck to 3 yards short of the green.

I seldom hit it off the tee but on #9 I wanted to make certain I stayed short of a ditch across the fairway. I hit the 4 wood damn near into the ditch, 254. Considering when I hit a drive 260 I figure I got a hold of it pretty darn well, 254 out of a 4 wood is crazy long.

That’s a big 4 wood.

I have been on vacation and played a few rounds while out. I tried my friends G440 Max 10.5 with the 50g Alta CB in stiff. That is a FW finding machine. He also has the 3-7 woods in the 440 max which were equally as good. I ended up using his driver on every hole!

I had a brand-agnostic fitting for driver this summer and was fit into that very head. You hit the nail on the head. It is a fairway finder. I also picked up about about 15 yards over the driver I was fit into about 12 years ago.

I played in a league 4 man scramble. Modified where you had to use a drive from each player on the front 9 and back 9 on the par 4 holes.

I had the best drive on almost every par 4 and we kept deferring to the other players to get their drive on each side. No one worried about getting my drive in. They knew I was just going to do it again on the next hole, and so did I.

Pretty cool to play with that level of confidence.

Quick question regarding the new shaft adapter. Reading conflicting info on the web so I'm not 100% sure what to believe. Can the new adapter be used in the g430 head and vice versa, can the old g430 adapter be used in the the g440 driver? I've read they are reverse compatible, g440 works in g430, g430 adapter does/doesn't work in the g440 head? I recently picked up a shaft that has the g440 adapter that i am wanting to test in the g430 head, plus i also have a few shafts with g430 adapters and i may pick up a g440 when the new 10k drops and would love to test with my old shafts

I can confirm the old 430 adapter can be used in the newer 440 heads. I will say... it isn't a perfect fit, ONLY in the sense that the rim of the adapter doesn't fit perfectly flush with the rim of the driver hosel. I'm being kind picky here and it works absolutely fine in my experience.

As for using the new adapter in the old head.... I have not tried that so I can't comment, but I'd imagine it will fit.

Yes. They are interchangable. The new adapter works with the old heads and vice versa.

Picked up a G440 LST head. I wasn't particularly looking to change drivers but I saw this for a great price so YOLO bought it. Have never played any PING clubs before. Very curious to see how it competes against the Elyte.

I’m interested in hearing your thoughts. I play a Ping G410 and I’m happy with it.

That's what I currently play. Really helps bring my spin down off the tee.

I did a head-to-head comparison this summer with the G440 Max. It will probably depend on your swing characteristics. They were the two top-performing heads in the brand-agnostic fitting I had. With my swing, they were very close in distance. However, my *miss* is an occasional pull, and the fade bias setting on the G440 Max gave me a tighter dispersion. My pull only went half as far offline, keeping me on the fairway.

Will be interested in your results.

That's funny, because my miss is also a pull and I have no fear with the LST head on going left...which is why I love it.

The 440K (succesor to the 430 10k) is showing up in tournament bags this week. It'll be interesting to hear what the buzz is on it....

This is good to hear because my current miss is a big hook. Head supposed to get delivered today so hopefully I have some thoughts to report back soon.

Got in a practice session with the new toy this afternoon. Found it really forgiving, especially for a low spin model. Feels like the ball really wants to go right so I had to really commit to a swing when I wanted to draw it. Promising start but more testing to come…

Some folks have actually said in their testing they found the LST to be more forgiving than the Max. Which is wild.

I was shocked at some of the swings I got away with lol

I've been really impressed with the forgiveness of the LST head. I played a TSR3 last year and had one of my best driving seasons, but wanted a little extra forgiveness and this seems to have fit the bill. It maybe gives up a couple of yards on absolutely centered strikes, but I feel like off center has provided better results.

I feel like this is the trade off. I’ll gladly lose a few yards for it. Gone are the days of chasing 320 yard bombs
